Day 2 of the Omaha Hi-Low Championship Sees Dan Kelly Lead Final 111

Chip Leader Dan Kelly
Chip Leader Dan Kelly

Welcome back to the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino and the 2014 World Series of Poker for Day 2 of Event #10: $10,000 Limit Omaha Hi-Low Championship!

Yesterday afternoon 178 players took to the felt to build a prize pool of $1,673,200 in the first Omaha Hi-Low tournament of the series, with the final 18 players scheduled to receive shares of that money. Ten levels was yesterday's plan, and once the call to bag and tag was announced, only 111 players would remain as the likes of Phil Ivey, Mike Matusow, David Benyamine, Gary Benson, Jeff Madsen, and Shawn Buchanan were just a handful of the players finding themselves on the rail throughout the day.

Leading the field into Day 2 is WSOP bracelet winner Dan Kelly who amassed an impressive 146,700-chip stack to sit just ahead of Jeff Williams who was the only other player above 140,000. Being one of the Championships for the series, the field is still stacked with notables as the likes of Daniel Negreanu (99,100), Nick Schulman (90,200), Scott Clements (83,800), Erik Seidel (65,200), Matthew Ashton (64,600), Jason Mercier (46,800), and Michael Mizrachi (35,200). Meanwhile Andy Bloch, Chris Bell, Barry Greenstein and Brian Hastings are all peddling short stacks.

On a flop of {8-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{K-Clubs} we found Andy Bloch all in against Marco Johnson.

Bloch: {A-Diamonds}{A-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{4-Hearts}
Johnson: {A-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{3-Hearts}

With Bloch drawing to running cards for the high and a draw to a low, the turn and river landed the {7-Spades} and {5-Clubs} to see Johnson's nut flush and second nut low scoop the pot and send Bloch to the rail.

Gorodinsky Gone

Mike Gorodinsky (from Event 5)
Mike Gorodinsky (from Event 5)

Perry Friedman limped under the gun and Robert Campbell, Andrew Brown, and Gary Bolden each called before Mike Gorodinsky checked his option in the big blind.

The flop fell {A-Clubs}{2-Spades}{J-Diamonds} and Gorodinsky led for 1,200 with Friedman folding before Campbell raised to 2,400. Brown and Bolden mucked, then Gorodinsky committed his last 2,000 total.

Campbell: {A-Spades}{Q-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{4-Spades}
Gorodinsky: {8-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{3-Spades}{2-Clubs}

With Gorodinsky needing to improve on the high and drawing live for the low, the turn and river landed the {A-Hearts} and {10-Diamonds} to see the WSOP bracelet winner eliminated while Campbell scooped the pot to move to over 40,000 in chips.

Laak's Wet Money

Phil Laak
Phil Laak

"Fifteen hundred in the dark! Wet money. Chicken Dinner," announced Phil Laak as he tossed in 1,500.

Laak however was in the big blind, so his 1,500 was just the big blind and not a dark bet as he may have made it sound like.

The action folded round to Tom Schneider who raised to 3,000 and once play returned to Laak, he tossed his cards to the muck.

Josh Arieh raised to 3,000 and Phillip Hui three-bet to 4,500. With the action on Frankie O'Dell on the button, he made it four bets and both Arieh and Hui called.

The dealer spread a {9-Spades}{5-Clubs}{Q-Spades} flop and Hui fired out 1,500 with both O'Dell and Arieh calling. The {2-Spades} then landed on the turn. Hui tossed in another 3,000. This time, only O'Dell made the call as the river landed the {J-Spades} and Hui fired in another 3,000.

O'Dell made the call, but then mucked when Hui tabled his {A-Spades}{Q-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{4-Spades} for the third-nut flush.

Give It to the Skinny Kid, Sunshine!

Layne Flack
Layne Flack

Layne Flack found himself all in for his last 7,300 with Tom Koral making the call.

Flack: {A-Spades}{6-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{4-Clubs}
Koral: {A-Clubs}{K-Clubs}{Q-Hearts}{2-Spades}

The board ran out {A-Hearts}{10-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{3-Diamonds} and Flack announced, "Give it to the skinny kid, sunshine!"

The dealer pushed the pot to Flack who doubled to roughly 16,000, although his announcement of "skinny kid" may be misinterpreted, as it can easily be argued that Koral is skinnier than back-to-back Flack!

Selbst Sent Packing by Schulman's Straight

Vanessa Selbst
Vanessa Selbst

Five players entered the pot for 2,500 as the dealer fanned a {10-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{9-Spades} flop with the action checking to Nick Schulman who bet out 2,500 with Mike Leah and the button player calling before Vanessa Selbst check-raised from the big blind to 5,000.

Schulman then made it three bets to go with Leah and the button calling before Selbst called all in for 6,800 total. The turn landed the {9-Clubs} and Leah took the lead with a 5,000-chip bet as only Schulman called before he led for 5,000 when the river landed the {Q-Diamonds}.

Leah called and tabled his {A-Hearts}{A-Clubs}{K-Clubs}{6-}, but it would be Schulman's {A-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds}{J-Hearts}{8-Hearts} for a straight that would see him scoop the pot as Selbst flashed her {5-Spades}{4-}{3-Hearts}{2-} and headed to the rail.
