Matusow Dwindling

Nível 4

2-7 Triple Draw

Big blind Mike Matusow checked behind after the second draw, and his opponent in the small blind stood pat. Matusow drew one.

The player in the small blind fired out after the draw, and Matusow folded. His opponent showed {8-}{7-}{6-}{4-}{2-}, and Matusow has dropped to about a third of the starting stack.

Lindgren Tries to Steal the Hardest Blinds in the World

Nível 4

Limit Hold'em

Fresh off his runner-up finish in the World Poker Tour $25,000 Championship, Erick Lindgren is here at the Rio looking to capture his second WSOP bracelet.

In a recent hand of limit hold'em, Lindgren raised from the button and Tuan Le defended from the small blind. The {3-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{6-Spades} flop saw Le bet 200, Lindgren pop it to 400 and Le call, bringing about the {A-Spades} turn. Lindgren proceeded to call a bet of 400 but then folded when Le bet again on the {Q-Clubs} river.

"You're trying to steal the hardest blinds in the world," someone at the table told Lindgren, who smiled at the joke. Despite losing that hand, Lindgren is still above the starting stack and sitting with 11,500.

Harman Done

Nível 4
Jen Harman
Jen Harman

2-7 Triple Draw

We found Jennifer Harman down to 250 chips, 200 of which were already in the pot for her big blind. She tossed her last two lime-green chips in after seeing her first two cards. The player under the gun raised, and everyone else folded to make it heads up.

Harman drew one on the first draw, and her opponent two.

Harman stood pat, and her opponent drew one on each of the final two draws.

"Nine" her opponent announced, and Harman turned over a nine low as well.

Harman: {9-}{8-}{7-}{x-}{x-}
Opponent: {9-Spades}{2-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}

Harman's last two cards were babies whose value we didn't catch, but her opponent's nine-five was easily good enough to eliminate her.

Zolotow Scoops One

Nível 3

Stud Eight or Better

Steve Zolotow was betting into an anguished opponent in a large pot on sixth street. Zolotow had a dangerous four-five-six-seven board, while his opponent had a pair of jacks showing. The opponent called despite Zolotow advising him that there was no shame in folding. Zolotow fired once again on seventh street, and his opponent made what appeared to be a reluctant call.

Zolotow: {a-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{5-Hearts}/{4-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}
Opponent: {7-}{8-}{k-}/{j-Spades}{j-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{2-Hearts}

"The Bald Eagle" is now back to the starting stack after his straight and low scooped the pot.

One for the Defending Champ

Nível 3

Stud

Last year David "ODB" Baker won his first bracelet in this very event after defeating Greg "FBT" Mueller in an epic heads-up battle. Baker is back in action and looking to defend his title.

We happened upon his table just in time to see him raking in a sizable Stud pot. We're not sure of the order of the cards as they'd been jumbled, but his board read {a-Clubs}{j-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}. The flush was good for the "Original David Baker" and he was pushed the pot.

During the hand and continuing after, Baker was engaged in a serious conversation about Chinese Poker with his tablemates Matt Glantz and Rob Salaburu. Unfortunately for them, Chinese isn't a part of the Eight-Game Mix.

"I Was Trying to Raise the Turn"

Nível 3

No Limit Hold'em

We happened upon Table 101 with around 1,400 in the pot and a flop of {5-Spades}{10-Hearts}{8-Spades}. Eric Crain was in the hijack and ended up check-calling a bet of 725 from the player in the cutoff. After the dealer burned and turned the {2-Diamonds}, Crain checked and the cutoff bet 1,375.

Crain then splashed out some chips in an attempt to raise, but it wasn't enough to constitute a legal one. Instead it was counted as a call and the {A-Clubs} was put out on the river. Crain checked for a third time and watched his opponent bet 2,350.

"I was trying to raise the turn," Crain explained before calling and tabling the {A-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs} for a pair of aces. His opponent seemed a bit disgusted before mucking his cards.
