Who Has Taken 12th Before?

Nível 34 : 150,000/300,000, 50,000 ante

There are currently 12 players left in the Main Event. It might not be the most remembered position as we approach the final table, but some big names have finished 12th over the past 10 years.

Although not the most well-known player back then, Dutch Boyd would go on to collect 24 additional WSOP cashes including two bracelets in $2,500 Six-Handed No Limit Holdem and Limit Holdem.

It wouldn’t be until 2007 that another regular tournament name grabbed 12th place when Ray Henson collected just under $500,000 for falling two places shy of the final table. Henson has added over $500,000 to his lifetime earnings including three WSOP Circuit gold rings. Chris Klodnicki is the most accomplished on the list with over $7 million in lifetime earnings including 22 WSOP cashes and 6 final tables.

John Magill – who collected the most for his 12th place – has managed to add only two more WSOP cashes to his poker record and amazingly sees his $1,154,527 payout equate to nearly as much as what 7th place here would take home.

Scott Abrams took 12th in 2012 after Jesse Sylvia eliminated him with a set of sevens against Abrams' top pair.

Although PokerNews wishes no one to finish in 12th place, one of these remaining players will have to. Luckily however they will be in great company that features many accomplished players, multiple WSOP bracelets and Circuit gold rings and millions in additional earnings.

Marc McLaughlin
Marc McLaughlin

Hand #176: After folding that big hand to Jay Farber, Marc McLaughlin was involved again with an opening raise to 750,000 from the small blind. Then Matthew Reed reraised to 1.4 million, forcing a fold from McLaughlin.

Hand #177: It folded to McLaughlin on the button, and again he was raising — this time to 600,000 — and the blinds folded.

Hand #178: It folded to Mark Newhouse in the cutoff who pushed his stack of about 5.2 million all in, and he won the pot.

Hand #179: McLaughlin raised to 600,000 from the cutoff seat and Farber called from the big blind. The flop came {9-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{6-Spades}, and Farber check-called McLaughlin's continuation bet of 750,000. The turn was the {A-Hearts} and Farber checked once more. McLaughlin bet 1.6 million this time, and Farber let his hand go.
