Mueller Flops Set, Gets Paid

Nível 12 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante

Shortly after that hand with Max Ovseyevitz, Greg Mueller was back at it again in a hand that resulted in a large pot between himself and a lone opponent.

In this one Mueller limped in from under the gun, then watched as a player a couple of seats down raised to 6,500. It folded back around to Mueller who called, and the pair saw the dealer spread a {4-Spades}{2-Hearts}{9-Diamonds} flop.

Mueller checked, and his opponent pushed out 4,500 as a continuation bet. In the midst of getting a message, Mueller was leaned forward and rocking slightly as he grabbed chips to check-raise to 15,500. His opponent sat for a couple of beats looking at his stack of around 75,000, then declared he was all in. Mueller called without hesitation.

Mueller flipped over his {4-Diamonds}{4-Hearts} for middle set while he opponent exhaled loudly as he showed his {Q-Spades}{Q-Diamonds}. The turn and river brought a couple of tens, improving Mueller to a full house and sending another player to the rail early on Day 3.

Van Luijk Still Climbing

Nível 12 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante
Dick Van Luijk
Dick Van Luijk

After a late-position raise to 4,500, Dick Van Luijk called from the big blind. The flop came {k-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}, and Van Luijk check-called a bet of 5,500. Both players checked the {2-Diamonds} on the turn, and the dealer brought the {q-Spades} on the river. Van Luijk bet out for 10,000, and his opponent called. Van Luijk turned over {k-Spades}{4-Clubs} for two pair on the flop, and his opponent mucked.

The hand brings Van Luijk's stack up to 466,000.

Mueller Checks Ovseyevitz into the Boards

Nível 12 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante
Greg Mueller
Greg Mueller

Former pro hockey player and two-time WSOP bracelet winner Greg Mueller just moved into the Amazon Room, and it didn't take long for him to get involved in a big pot. Mueller raised to 5,000 preflop from middle position and Max Ovseyevitz three-bet to 15,300 from the small blind. Mueller called, and the dealer rolled out a {Q-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{Q-Clubs} flop. Mueller quickly checked and Ovseyevitz fired 13,500 into the pot. Mueller cut out enough for a call, and then grabbed an additional 19,600 for a raise, and pushed the total amount into the pot. Ovseyevitz called.

The turn was the {10-Clubs} and Mueller continued his aggression by betting 40,000. Ovseyevitz went into the tank for a few minutes, leaning back in his seat several times, before eventually giving up his hand.

"You wanna see one or no," Mueller asked his defeated opponent. "You pick one." With the ESPN cameras rolling, Ovseyevitz picked a card and Mueller flipped over the {7-Diamonds} — good enough to increase his stack above the 200,000 mark.

Chen Doubles Opponent; Still Crushing

Nível 12 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante
Chun Chen
Chun Chen

The player in middle position moved all in for his last 18,700 in chips, and was called by Chun Chen in the cutoff. The button and blinds got out of the way, before both players tabled their cards.

Chen: {a-Hearts}{k-Spades}
Opponent: {A-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}

The board ran out {7-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{q-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} to see Chen’s opponent flop a queen, and get a much needed double up. Chen didn’t look too worried after the hand, smiling along with his opponent, as he still sits as one of the bigger stacks in the room.

DeWitt Move Benefits Cody

Nível 12 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante
Jason DeWitt
Jason DeWitt

We were passing by the table where Jake Cody and Jason DeWitt are sitting side-by-side to discover the pair embroiled in a preflop battle. Cody had the button and DeWitt was in the small blind, and by the time we arrived Cody had 11,400 slid out in front of him while DeWitt had raised to 25,500. Cody then made it 44,800 to go, and after sitting for a few moments DeWitt declared he was all in and Cody called immediately to put his entire stack of 190,100 at risk.

Cody flipped over {A-Spades}{A-Clubs} while DeWitt kind of reluctantly turned over his {Q-Diamonds}{J-Spades}. The flop came {3-Spades}{Q-Spades}{8-Spades}, pairing DeWitt's queen and providing a bit of a sweat for Cody even though he had the spade draw covered. But the turn was the {7-Diamonds} and river the {9-Hearts}, and suddenly Cody has surged back up toward 400,000 while DeWitt takes a big hit to tumble down under 25,000.

Zaucha Takes One from Mortensen

Nível 12 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante

Carlos Mortensen raised to 5,400 from the cutoff, and action folded around to Brandan Zaucha in the big blind. Zaucha thought for a minute, and as he did so, Mortensen put on his sunglasses. Zaucha chuckled and asked the 2001 Main Event Champion, "So now it's serious? Now I call," and he pushed chips forward. The flop came {2-Spades}{q-Clubs}{j-Clubs}, and Zaucha checked. Mortensen continued for 6,600, and Zaucha called. Both players checked the {9-Hearts} on the turn, and then the {3-Spades} came on the river. Both players checked again, and Zaucha turned over {a-Spades}{j-Diamonds} for second-pair on the flop. Mortensen slid his cards to the dealer, and Zaucha took the pot.

After the hand, Zaucha was up to 134,000, while still has 325,000.

Moffatt Can't Save Chan

Nível 12 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante
Johnny Chan
Johnny Chan

Tuan Le opened the action with a raise to 4,500 from under the gun. Action folded all the way around to Johnny Chan in the small blind who moved all in for his last 45,000 chips. Then, from the big blind, Colin Moffatt moved all in as well with a covering stack. Action was back on Le who tanked for about 30 seconds before releasing his hand.

Chan: {J-Diamonds}{J-Hearts}
Moffat: {7-Clubs}{7-Spades}

The flop came down {K-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{5-Clubs} keeping Chan in the lead. The turn was the {Q-Clubs} and Le was visibly upset upon seeing the card. "You're lucky he moved all in, otherwise I call you Johnny," Le said, explaining that he had folded ace queen.

"I know," Chan said, patting Moffat on the back. "Thanks for saving me!"

But it wasn't over yet. The {7-Hearts} hit the river, giving Moffat the lead with his rivered full house. With that, Chan was eliminated from the tournament and he made his exit from the Brasilia room.

Ramos Takes From Hille

Nível 12 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante

Elisabeth Hille raised to 4,000 in early position and was called by the player in the cutoff and Felipe Ramos on the button.

The flop came down {Q-Clubs}{J-Spades}{2-Diamonds} and Hille continued for 6,500. Both of her opponents called to see the {K-Spades} turn. Action checked to Ramos this time and he bet 10,600. Only Hille tagged along to see the {J-Hearts} river, which she checked. Ramos bet 13,800 and after about 90 seconds in the tank, Hille called.

Ramos tabled {10-Spades}{9-Spades} for a straight, Hille mucked, and Ramos took down the pot.

Griffin Keeps On Going

Nível 12 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante

Ashton Griffin may not be a name that your common poker fan knows, but anyone in the poker community knows Griffin as one of the best online and live players in the world, and he is building up a big stack here on Day 3. We caught a small hand to give insight on his aggressive ways. The board read {8-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{a-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}, and after it was checked to him, Griffin fired out a pot sized bet of 15,000. His opponent thought it over for about 30 seconds before shaking his head, and sending his cards towards the dealer.

Once he finished stacking those chips, we pegged Griffin at 345,000.
