The Plan of Action

Nível 17 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

The tournament director has informed the players that the original schedule has been changed. They will now play two levels, take a 20-minute break and then play a final level. This means the players will be finished around 3 a.m, something that has been met with disapproval by the vast majority of the players who have already been battling it out at the felt since 1 p.m.

Exposure to the Elements

Nível 17 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

A player at Table 431 moved all in before the flop, and a middle-position player called and exposed his hand, though the dealer quickly covered it. The floor was called, and they ruled that his hand had to be exposed and the rest of the hand played out. He had the {a-Clubs}{2-Clubs}, and the cutoff moved all in for 18,500 on top of the first 40,000.

"Well, there goes that idea," Cliff Josephy said.

Action folded back to the caller, who called the additional 18,500.

Under the gun: {3-Hearts}{3-Spades}
Middle position: {a-Clubs}{2-Clubs}
Cutoff: {a-Hearts}{k-Spades}

The flop came {9-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}, giving one player a set and another a flush draw. A {2-Hearts} on the turn left the player with ace-king in awful shape, and the river was a {10-Clubs}. The player with the set tripled up, while the middle position player received the side pot and a one-round penalty.

Bertilsson's Stack Cut in Half

Nível 17 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

Anton Bertilsson raised under the gun, and the small blind three-bet him. Bertilsson put the player all in, and the player called.

Bertilsson: {a-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}
Opponent: {q-Clubs}{q-Hearts}

"One time," the player with queens said. "Let me use my one time."

"Yesss," he said as the flop brought a queen. No ace arrive, and Bertilsson lost about half his stack.

Kaverman Sends Liu to the Rail

Nível 17 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante
Xuan Liu
Xuan Liu

Xuan Liu's tournament has come to an abrupt end at the hands of Byron Kaverman.

Liu moved all-in with what turned out to be {9-Clubs}{9-Diamonds} and Kaverman re-shoved from the cutoff with the more powerful {K-Clubs}{K-Spades}. The {j-Hearts}{8-Spades}{5-Spades} flop failed to alter the course of the hand, and neither did the {2-Spades} turn. The {10-Spades} river completed the board, busted Liu and Kavermn climbed back over 100,000 chips.

Laying Wood

Nível 17 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

Cory Wood opened to 9,000 in the hijack, and Chiab Saechao reraised to 25,000 on the button. Wood jammed for 153,000, and Saechao went into the tank.

"Will you show me if I fold?" he asked. Wood affirmed that he would.

Finally, Saechao decided to call, flipping over {a-Spades}{k-Clubs}. Wood was dominated with {a-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}.

"You took that long with ace-king?" Wood asked.

The flop came {j-Clubs}{q-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}, and Wood pulled ahead. A {6-Diamonds} turn closed out some of Saechao's outs, and the river was a meaningless {j-Spades}. Saechao let a few curses fly as Wood took the pot.

The next hand, Wood opened for a raise and Humberto Brenes reraised on the button. Wood called, and on the river he check-called a bet of around 40,000 on a board of {a-}{k-}{q-}{4-}{6-}. Brenes slid his cards into the middle, and Wood turned over {10-Clubs}{10-Spades} and took the pot.

Valverde Catches a Gutshot

Nível 17 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

Roberto Romanello opened to 8,500 from the hijack seats and found callers in the shape of Yueqi Wang in the cutoff, Alyssa Valverde in the small blind and Thomas Conway in the big blind.

The quartet saw the {7-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{J-Diamonds} flop come into view and Valverde led for 30,000. That bet folded out everyone except Wang who raised to 70,000. Valverde moved all in and was instantly called.

Valverde: {J-Spades}{10-Diamonds}
Wang: {7-Spades}{7-Clubs}

The turn was the {8-Hearts}, which improved Valverde's hand to a straight and when the {4-Clubs} failed to pair the board, Valverde won a substantial pot and left Wang nursing a short stack.
