High Rollers

Nível 7 : 200/400, 50 ante

With players standing to depart the Brasilia Room every few minutes, it stands to reason that a few big stacks have emerged. We've spotted a couple of high rollers who have both moved over the 50,000 plateau midway through the first day of play.

William Reynolds, who captured the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure's High Roller event in 2010, has built his stack to 57,500, and he will be searching for his first major victory since that six-figure score on the seashore.

Czech pro Vojtech Ruzicka has also been active on Day 1, and the winner of the most recent EPT Deauville High Roller event currently sits on a stack of 52,400.

Both of these high rollers will be looking to end Day 1 among the chip leaders, and we will be sure to tack their progress as the tournament continues.

Brian Rast Eliminated
Brian Rast Eliminated

Ed Rose was all in before the flop for his last 12,550 from the button and Brian Rast shipped all in over the top from the small blind for 28,000. Clement Thumy snap-called the bet and the three hands were turned over with Rose and Rast's tournament life on the line.

Rose: {6-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}
Rast: {K-Hearts}{K-Diamonds}
Thumy: {A-Spades}{A-Clubs}

Thumy was crushing the pairs of both of his opponents, and things did not change after the {J-Hearts}{4-Spades}{7-Diamonds} flop hit the felt. The {5-Clubs} turned, giving Rose and open-ended straight draw, which he ultimately hit when the {3-Hearts} struck the river. Rose was able to triple up, but Thumy's aces were still better than Rast's kings, and the latter was eliminated close to the dinner break. Thumy now has about 34,000 while Rose is sitting pretty with 38,000.

Ravi Raghavan Can't Find a Seven

Nível 6 : 150/300, 25 ante

After opening to 650, Ravi Raghavan watched an opponent move all in from the small blind, risking his last 7,325. Raghavan made the call with {7-Clubs}{7-Spades}, hoping to be racing against overcards, but he found himself trailing badly when the all-in player revealed {Q-Spades}{Q-Clubs}.

When the board ran out {3-Diamonds}{a-Hearts}{9-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}, Raghavan was left with an inferior pocket pair, and about one third of the chips he started the hand with.

Blenkarn's Flush is Better

Nível 6 : 150/300, 25 ante

We saw small-stakes tournament grinder Jeff Blenkarn with a pile of chips moved to the front of his stack, and the board reading {9-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}.

His opponent tanked for a minute before moving all in, and Blenkarn stood while announcing "alright, I call."

Blenkarn's opponent tabled the {10-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} for a flush on the river, but Blenkarn's {K-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds} was the winner. After flopping an open-ended straight flush draw, turning a pair to take the lead, and rivering his flush, Blenkarn's opponent was dismayed to see that he had made second-best hand.

The Queen of Dragons

David "The Dragon" Pham Here on Day 1
David "The Dragon" Pham Here on Day 1

With the flop showing {5-Clubs}{q-Hearts}{7-Hearts}, David "The Dragon" Pham check-called a bet of 700, and the {4-Clubs} hit the board on the turn.

After both Pham and his opponent tapped the table, the {9-Clubs} completed the board on the river.

Pham led out for a bet of 1,200, and his opponent tanked for a bit before mucking his cards.

The man known as the "The Dragon" then squeezed his cards one last time, flashing the {Q-Clubs} as he mucked.

Angelils In The Outfield

Nível 6 : 150/300, 25 ante
Rene Angelil
Rene Angelil

We recently arrived at a table to find Konstantin Puchkov and Rene Angelil involved in a heads up pot. The flop read {9-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{3-Spades} and we got there in time to see Angelil move all in and Puchkov call.

Angelil: {K-Clubs}{k-Hearts}
Puchkov: {Q-Spades}{Q-Clubs}

Angelil's higher pocket pair was in the lead and he was able to secure his double up after the {9-Spades} turned and the {7-Spades} rivered. Puchkov was forced to send over most of his chips, leaving him with just 3,300 behind. Angelil is now sitting on about 18,000 total.
