Event #36: $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em Shootout

Dia 2 Iniciado

Welcome to Day 2 of Event #36: $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em Shootout

Allen Kessler was among the notable players to win his Day 1 table.
Allen Kessler was among the notable players to win his Day 1 table.

With 120 players remaining in Event #36: $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em Shootout, we are in the money and today should be a very interesting day indeed. Plenty of big names took down their Day 1 tables, so we're looking at a loaded field here in contention for the $326,440 first-place prize and World Series of Poker gold bracelet.

For those unfamiliar with the shootout format, the tournament is played out with each table acting as its own sit-and-go tournament, playing down to one winner. That winner then waits for all the tables to play down to their respective winners, and when the tables are each down to one, a new round begins with full tables. The process repeats until the field is whittled down to one table of round winners, at which point it's played down to a champion.

The first round was played yesterday, and big names taking down their first tables include Peter Jetten, Erik Seidel, Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier, Mike "SirWatts" Watson, Brent Hanks, Andy Seth, Gavin Smith, Aaron Jones, Allen Kessler, Ari Engel, Jesse Sylvia, and Eric Baldwin. It will be interesting to see how the table draw shakes out today.

The twelve table winners will return tomorrow for Day 3, and we'll be here to let you know which players emerge. Because of the shootout structure, everyone is guaranteed $5,555, and there are no pay jumps today except for those advancing.

"Basebaldy" Flops an Early Set

Nível 12 : 200/400, 50 ante

We found Eric "basebaldy" Baldwin firing a 4,600 river bet after his opponent checked to him on a board of {4-Spades}{j-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{x-}{k-Spades}. Baldwin's opponent immediately made the call, and Baldwin turned over {9-Clubs}{9-Diamonds} for a set of nines. His opponent mucked, and Baldwin grabbed an early lead at his table.

Dr.Jones Teaches Sylvia a Preflop Lesson

Nível 12 : 200/400, 50 ante

Action had folded around to Jessie Sylvia on the button where he made a raise to 800. The player in the small blind called. From the big blind Aaron Jones put in a reraise to 3,600.

With action back on Sylvia he thought for a bit before putting in another bet to 8,400. The player in the small blind quickly released his hand. Jones thought about it for a moment before moving all in.

"Nice hand," Sylvia said before mucking his cards.

Hanks Folds the River

Nível 12 : 200/400, 50 ante

We found Thomas Lutz and Brent "Bhanks11" Hanks in a pot on a board of {9-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{6-Diamonds}. Lutz bet 6,100, and Hanks called him. Gavin Smith folded behind them, and the river came {a-Clubs}. Lutz fired 9,500, and Hanks tanked for a minute or so before folding.

Smith remarked that he'd folded {a-}{9-}, and if Hanks had folded the turn he'd have ended up calling down.

Peters and Berkey do Battle

Nível 12 : 200/400, 50 ante

After unknown preflop action between Matt Berkey and one other player, David Peters raised to 1,800 from the button. He was called by both Berkey and the player.

The flop came down {4-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{10-Diamonds} and both Berkey and the other player checked to Peters who made a bet of 2,550. Only Berkey called.

The turn was the {8-Clubs} and Berkey checked for a second time. Peters bet out 5,650 and it didn't take Berkey long to fold.

Peters is off to a great start and has already increased his stack by about 20,000 while Berkey is down about the same so far today.

Seth Loves the Turn Hates the River

Nível 12 : 200/400, 50 ante

Action was caught on the flop of a {7-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds} board. Ari Engel checked out of the blinds and Andy Seth bet out 1,400. Engel called and the turn came the {7-Diamonds}. Both players appartenly liked this card because after it turned over action ensued. Engel bet 2,650 and Seth raised to 7,600. Engel made the large call and the two took to the river.

The river came the {6-Hearts} putting two pair on the board. Engel checked and action was on Seth. Seth slammed his fist on the table claiming that the rivered two pair was perhaps the worst card for him and he checked. Seth was delighted to see Engel showing {k-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} for the king high flush. The reason he was delighted was because he held the {2-Hearts}{2-Clubs} giving him a full house.

With that pot Seth went up to 56,000 while Engel moved down to 40,000
