Blumenthal Busts Keating

Nível 13 : 1,000/2,000, 0 ante
Eddie Blumenthal
Eddie Blumenthal

Alan Keating had a good night last night as he ranked second in chips among the surviving 117 players. Unfortunately for him, Keating's luck turned on him here on Day 2 and he has been eliminated from the tournament.

It happened when a preflop raising war resulted in Keating and a late-position player being all in for 84,000 and 22,000 respectively. Eddie Blumenthal, who was in middle position, had them both covered.

Blumenthal: {a-Clubs}{a-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}{8-Spades}
Keating: {k-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}{q-Hearts}{9-Clubs}
Late Position: {9-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}

The {7-Clubs}{10-Spades}{5-Clubs} flop made things interesting as it gave Keating a flush draw and the other two players straight draws, but as it was Blumenthal's aces were still best. That changed when the dealer burned and turned the {7-Hearts}, which gave the late-position player trips. With that said, Blumenthal's aces still had him out in front of Keating in the sizable side pot.

There were plenty of cards that could change things on the river, but the {4-Diamonds} that peeled off was not one of them. The late-position player tripled while Blumenthal took down the side pot and eliminated Keating from the tournament.

Alexander Kostritsyn Bluffs, Busts

Nível 13 : 1,000/2,000, 0 ante
Alexander Kostritsyn Tried to Make a Move, But Got Caught By Tue Phan
Alexander Kostritsyn Tried to Make a Move, But Got Caught By Tue Phan

With another online super-stakes player receiving much of the Day 1 coverage yesterday, after Ben Tollerene's stack went missing during a dinner break, Alexander Kostritsyn just lost all of his chips in equally perplexing fashion.

We caught the action before the flop, with a player opening to 4,000 from the cutoff. Tue Phan called from the button, as did the small blind, but Kostritsyn decided to put the squeeze on with a three-bet to 20,000 from the big blind.

The original raiser got out of the way, but Phan called to see a flop of {q-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{q-Spades} rain down. Kostritysn then led out for a bet of 14,500, and Phan deliberated for a minute or so before cutting out two stacks and sliding them forward, raising to 34,000. Faced with a strong sign that Phan held a queen, Kostritsyn persevered nonetheless, reraising all-in for his last 90,000 or so chips.

Phan stood while making the call, showing down his {a-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{k-Spades} for trip queens and an ace kicker. Kostritsyn could only muster the {a-Spades}{j-Clubs}{9-Spades}{10-Clubs} for a bluff that, while courageously bold, had been busted.

The turn brought the {10-Hearts} to the table, and the river fell {k-Hearts}, giving Phan a full house, and a massive pile of chips.

Blumenthal Tripped Up by Ji

Nível 13 : 1,000/2,000, 0 ante

With 14,000 in the pot and a flop of {k-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{2-Clubs}, Eddie Blumenthal bet 7,800 from middle position after Young Ji had checked from the big blind. A call was made and then both players checked the {3-Hearts} turn. When the {6-Clubs} completed the board on the river, Ji led out for 7,300 and Blumenthal called.

Ji tabled the {10-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{3-Clubs} for a set of tens, and it was good as Blumenthal simply mucked his cards.

Brammer Hammers Ashby in Battle of Brits

Nível 14 : 1,200/2,400, 0 ante
Chris Brammer
Chris Brammer

After limping in from under the gun, British pro Christopher Brammer responded to a raise by three-betting to 24,000. One player called before the action was on fellow Englishman Richard Ashby, and he elected to take a flop as well.

When the {8-Spades}{k-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds} hit the board, Brammer led out for a bet of 50,000, forcing one fold, but Ashby appeared to be attached to his hole cards. Eventually, after counting out his chips slowly, Ashby went all-in for a little more than the original bet, and Brammer quickly called.

Showdown:

Brammer: {10-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{k-Spades}{j-Spades}
Ashby: {a-Spades}{a-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{5-Hearts}

Ashby was in front with his pair of aces, but more than fifteen hours of Omaha action had conditioned him to expect the worse. With a flush draw, a gutshot straight draw, and a pair of kings, Brammer had a slew of outs with which to work. Ashby leaned away from the table as the dealer burned and turned, perhaps expecting the worst.

Turn: {4-Clubs}
River: {k-Clubs}

The turn had been a safe card for Ashby, but the king on the river did him in, and he exited the tournament floor with a 52nd place finish.

The Schwartz is Not with Couden

Nível 14 : 1,200/2,400, 0 ante

Action folded around to Joey Couden in the hijack and he opened for 6,000. The cutoff folded, as did the button, and Noah Schwartz popped it to 20,000 from the small blind. After the big folded, Couden made the call and watched the flop come down {10-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{9-Hearts}. Schwartz took a moment before announcing pot and then called when Couden moved in for around 70,000 total.

Couden: {q-Spades}{j-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{k-Spades}
Schwartz: {q-Hearts}{j-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{3-Clubs}

Couden had a big wrap while Schwartz had a straight draw of his own to go with his pair of tens. The {10-Spades} turn actually improved Schwartz to trips, and the {3-Diamonds} river bumped it to a full house. Couden seemed a bit disappointed, and understandably so as he no doubt hoped to go further than 48th place.
