Day 2 of Event #22, $1,500 Pot-Limit Omaha is Set to Start
When the full field of 1,021 runners took their seats yesterday to compete in Event #22, $1,500 Pot-Limit Omaha, the assumption was that ten levels would decide who had earned the right to play for the cash on Day 2. Instead, only 117 players managed to bag and tag by the end of the night, meaning we broke the money bubble on the last bustout of the night.
Brandon Crawford begins Day 2 as the chip leader, after amassing a stack of 125,400 despite failing to eliminate Tom Cipriano in a memorable bubble hand. His lead is only a slim 1,500 chips, however, as Alan Keating will begin today with 123,900 at his disposal.
Joseph Cheong, who shot to poker stardom as a member of the 2010 "November Nine," will also enter Day 2 with momentum on his side, after notching a key knockout during the end of Day 1, when he bricked on a flush draw but found a runner-runner straight to move his stack into a comfortable position entering bubble play. Holding a stack of 52,400 when we get underway this afternoon, Cheong has put himself in position to make yet another deep run here in a WSOP event.
After an interesting Day 1, in which his stack went missing for over an hour, online super-stakes legend Ben Tollerene will start the day with only 5,300, needing to score a few quick doubles if he hopes to gain any traction.
Among the other notable names who have played their way to a shot at this WSOP bracelet in PLO are Keven Stammen (100,200), Paul Volpe (67,200), Tommy Le (67,000), Leif Force (40,000), Hoyt Corkins (36,200), Lee Watkinson (26,100), and Barry Johnston (20,300).

With the eliminations coming at a rapid fire clip here on Day 2, we watched young Brit Alex Lindop move all-in for his last 11,000 or so chips on the 
flop.
Jim Karambinis could afford the call, and when he moved his chips forward, Lindop could only shake his head knowing he was in bad shape.
Sure enough, Karambinis revealed his 
for trip eights, which especially good against Lindop's 
, as he held a blocker to the king.
Two blanks rolled off on the turn and river, and with that, Lindop joined the growing line at the payout desk, as this Pot-Limit Omaha tournament continues to shed competitors.

Marquez Making Marvelous Comeback, Doubles Through Cheong

Doubling her short stack once already, Ana Marquez has taken down another pot, and with one more all-in win she would actually move her stack above the average after starting the day with less than 4 big blinds.
Joseph Cheong opened for 2,700 from early position, and Marquez moved all-in for her last 8,500 or so chips. Cheong quickly made the call with his 
, but a wry grin suggested that he expected to be crushed.
Marquez revealed the 
however, and Cheong found that his medium pocket pair was actually ahead of the assortment of Broadway cards.

Berry Johnston has won a World Series of Poker bracelet in three different decades ('83, '86, '90, '95, '01), including the 1986 Main Event championship, and today he is gunning for another piece of gold in an astounding fourth decade of WSOP competition.
At age 77, Johnston is one of poker's respected elders, and his impressive collection of accolades across all of the game's disciplines makes him a major threat in this Pot-Limit Omaha event.
Johnston just showed that PLO is not just a game for the young hotshots, dispatching former "November Nine" member Jospeh Cheong in a showdown between two men who have had the honor of playing at the final table of the Main Event.
The action began when Cheong opened for 2,800, and Johnston responded by raising the pot. Cheong four-bet all-in for his remaining 12,300, and Johnston made the call with 
. Cheong was trailing with his 
, but the game of Omaha is all about the board cards.

Paul Volpe Vaults to Top of Leaderboard

Paul Volpe is one of poker's rising stars, leading the Global Poker Index Player of the Year Standings by a comfortable margin while cashing in several of poker's most prestigious events worldwide. With his recent win in the EPT's Grand Final (€10,000 No Limit Hold'em - Six Handed Turbo), Volpe has proven that he has what it takes to win a major event.
After the last hand, Volpe now has the chip stack to back up his natural swagger, as he now sits with nearly three times the average stack early on Day 2.
The action began with the flop reading 
, and Volpe checking to his opponent. After a bet of 8,400, Volpe bumped it up to 17,200, and the other player came along to see the drop on the turn. Both players tapped the table, and the 
completed the board on the river.
Volpe then led out for an all-in bet, forcing his opponent to the test if he wished to call. That's exactly what he did, calling off his last 23,000, but his cards were mucked quickly when Volpe rolled over the

Every poker player accepts a certain level of inherent volatility during their pursuit of edge-based gamble, but the game of Pot-Limit Omaha can produce swings that even the most experienced pros find hard to stomach. That has been true here on Day 2, as mere minutes after recording Paul Volpe's ascent to the top of our chip counts, the vagaries of fate have seen fit to dismiss him from further play.
We caught the action on the turn with the board reading 
. Michael Schwartz led out for a bet of 19,200, and Volpe raised to 84,700 holding 
for top two pair. Schwartz put his last 105,300 into the middle, and rolled over 
for top set. Volpe was crushed, and the 
on the river left him on the short end of yet another massive postflop PLO confrontation.
Volpe managed to score a quadruple up with his short stack after this hand, but his comeback attempt fell short, and he was eliminated midway through the second level of play.
