There must have been numerous cold four bets in the $500 Employees Event by now, but we just witnessed the first cold four-bet in this event.
Marvin Rettenmaier opened the button to 225 after which the small blind bumped the action to 600. Erick Lindgren in the big blind made it 1,175 to go and Rettenmaier folded after much deliberation. The small blind made the call however and the two took a look at . Both players checked and did so again after the dealer put the down as the turn. The river brought both players the and the small blind bet out 1,300. Erick checked his hand again and folded rather quickly.
We've already lost a player here in Level 1, and it's 2010 PCA Main Event champion Harrison Gimbel. We didn't catch the action, and table mate Matt Glantz simply said, "It was two hands."
Phil Ivey, whom some thought might already be in Macau for the Macau Millions, is right here in Vegas and is playing his first tournament of the series today. We all remember the tear he was on last year, but can he repeat that this year? Ivey is not alone today though, the competition in this tournament is as tough as they come.
Picking up the action after a flop, JJ Liu checked from the hijack and Kurt Jewell bet 800 from the cutoff. A call from Liu landed the turn where she check-called 1,200 from Jewell. The river fell and Liu checked to Jewell once again and he fired 4,000.
After about 90 seconds in the tank, Liu gave it up.
