Huge Preflop All In on Table #385

We caught up just as Stephane Bisson announced that he was all in before the flop an Mads Anderson called. Bisson's all in was for 722,000 in chips and he tabled {A-Clubs}{A-Hearts} which was crushing Anderson's {9-Spades}{9-Clubs}.

The board fell {6-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{5-Diamonds} and Bisson's pocket aces were able to hold up. This double for Bisson left him sitting pretty with 1,500,000 while Anderson is now crippled with only 240,000.

Assareh Ousts Lawler

Adam Lawler has been eliminated after finding himself all in with {7-}{7-} against Shahriar Assareh's {A-}{5-}. The flop was okay for Lawler, but an {A-} fell on the turn followed by a river {5-}, and Lawler joins the parade of players heading for the exit.

Somerville Binks a Queen

Jason Somerville (Day 3) binks a queen to stay alive
Jason Somerville (Day 3) binks a queen to stay alive

Our access to the secondary feature table is very limited, but when we heard that there was an all in and a call between Amit Zulkowitz and Jason Somerville, we sprinted over to see what was happening.

Zulkowitz had two black aces, Somerville, {q-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}, and there was over 2 million chips in the middle. The dealer rapped the table, and spread {2-Clubs}{k-Clubs}{5-Spades}.

We heard Somerville say something about "paint," and the {k-Spades} pealed off on the turn.

"What a tease," he said grinning, resigned to his fate.

Somerville caught lightning in a bottle however, because the {q-Clubs} spiked on the river, keeping his Main Event dreams alive.

Zulkowitz was distraught, and jumped out of his chair to run and lay his head on the rail. The pot rockets Somerville's stack to about 2.3 million chips, while Zulkowitz slipped to about 1.36 million.

Here Comes Corcione

We stumbled upon the action with somewhere between 400,000-500,000 already in the pot and a board reading {8-Hearts}{Q-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}. Robert Corcione had just bet 250,000 from the small blind, and action was on Massimo Mosele, who moved all in for right around 500,000 in the cutoff. Corcione made the call and the cards were turned up:

Showdown

Corcione{K-Spades}{8-Spades}
Mosele{K-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds}

Corcione had flopped trip eights, but Mosele was still drawing live to any diamond. The dealer burned one last time and put out the {10-Hearts}. It was a blank for Mosele and he made his way to the payout desk; meanwhile, Corcione was pushed the massive pot and appears to be the second biggest stack in the room.

Powderly Dusted

Andrew Powderly was just all in before the flop with {A-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} and needing to improve against Ruggeri Marco's {A-Spades}{Q-Diamonds}. The community cards came {J-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{5-Spades}, and Marco's hand remained best, sending Powderly out with about 230 players left.

Legoff Folds to Mefodichev's Pressure

Vladimir Mefodichev opened for 35,000 from the button and was called by Eric Legoff in the small blind.

The flop came {9-Clubs}{J-Hearts}{4-Clubs} and Legoff checked. Mefodichev paused and then slid two stacks of yellow into the middle for a 43,000 bet. Legoff responded by re-popping it to 101,000. Undeterred, Mefodichev announced he was all in and Legoff snap-folded.

Mefodichev is sitting on 650,000 while Legoff slipped to 1.2 million.

Selbst Sinks Schobert

Vanessa Selbst
Vanessa Selbst

Jeffrey Schobert has hit the rail here during Level 21, with Vanessa Selbst the one collecting his chips and adding to her ever growing stack.

Down to his last 80,000, Schobert was all in with {J-Hearts}{7-Hearts} against Selbst's {7-Spades}{7-Diamonds}. The flop came {Q-Hearts}{2-Spades}{4-Diamonds} and the turn the {A-Hearts}, giving Schobert a flush draw, but the river was the {A-Clubs} and he's out.

Blue Section Counts

We have limited access to the blue section, but during the break, we went over to get counts for all the players over there.

Killer Kings Knock Out Gomez

"That's poker."

So said Jose Gomez as he walked over by the payout desk. He'd just been eliminated, in especially unfortunate fashion, but he was taking it in stride.

Gomez was all in for 289,000 with {A-Spades}{A-Clubs} and up against the {A-Diamonds}{K-Hearts} of Rodrick Kennedy. "Do you have me covered?" asked Kennedy as they waited for the community cards to come, and a quick comparison showed the stacks were close but Gomez was the one at risk.

The flop came {2-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}, and Kennedy stood by his chair with a grin of acceptance on his face. The turn brought the {K-Hearts} and a flicker of hope, but Kennedy was still smiling as though he were ready to make an exit.

Then came the river… the {K-Spades}. "Ohhhh," said the table, as though collectively reacting to a blow. Kennedy's shoulders immediately slumped. "Tough beat, man," he said to Gomez. "I'm sorry."

In fact, Kennedy looked more disappointed than Gomez, who wished the others a good game and accepted congratulations from his supporters, before taking that walk to the payout desk.

Thambynayagam Takes To The Rail

We caught up to find Anthony Thambynayagam all in for his tournament life against Scott Abrams. Thambynayagam held {A-Spades}{Q-Hearts} and was racing with Abrams' {9-Spades}{9-Clubs}.

Abrams kept the lead on the {2-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} flop and clinched his victory by turning a full house when the {9-Diamonds} fell. The {5-Hearts} completed the board and Thambynayagam was sent packing.
