Thursday With Bernie

Bernard Lee, who finished 13th in the 2005 World Series of Poker Main Event, opened to 4,700 from early position. A player in the blinds called and the flop fell {q-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{3-Hearts}. Lee's opponent check-called a 6,100-chip bet, and the turn brought the {7-Hearts}. Both players checked.

The {8-Spades} completed the board, and the player in the blinds led for 12,700. Lee tank-called, and the player showed {a-Clubs}{k-Clubs}. Lee tabled {j-Hearts}{j-Diamonds} for a pair of jacks, and is up over 200,000 chips.

Stern Still Chipping Up

Dani Stern has recently sky rocketed up the chip counts and has now picked up a few extra chips, courtesy of this hand that we caught from the {5-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{k-Hearts} flop. At this point it was Stern versus two opponents, with one player to act first and the other player on the button. All three players checked here and a {k-Clubs} was dealt on the turn. One check would see the action on Stern and he would bet 9,500. The player on the button called and the other folded as the dealer would flip over the {2-Clubs} on the river.

This time Stern would check and his opponent check behind. At showdown, Stern tabled {j-Hearts}{j-Clubs} - enough to send his opponent's cards straight into the muck and some chips into his stack.

Boeree Busts Another

Liv Boeree has been all smiles today, and for good reason. She has been on an absolute heater, as she has just busted another player to up her stack over 400,000.

We missed the exact preflop action, but we saw the ESPN cameras swarm to her table, so we went to check it out. We saw that David Petrosian had gotten the rest of his stack, which looked to be about 65,000, in preflop holding {6-Spades}{6-Diamonds}. However, he ran into the {k-Spades}{k-Clubs} of Boeree, and he would need a ton of help to survive.

The board ran down {3-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{8-Hearts}, and Boeree claimed the bounty while adding to her mountain of a chip stack.

Thanh dat Tran Takes From Makhija

Following an all-heart {9-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{4-Hearts} flop, it checked to Thanh dat Tran in the cutoff who bet 5,000 (about two-thirds the pot). The big blind folded, but Amit Makhija called from under the gun. The turn brought the {8-Spades} and Makhija checked. Tran bet 5,000 again, and Makhija called.

The river was the {2-Spades} and the pair followed a similar pattern, with Makhija checking, Tran betting — 13,000, this time — and Makhija calling. Tran then showed {A-Hearts}{Q-Hearts} for the flopped flush, and Makhija mucked.

Katchalov Slips with Kings

Eugene Katchalov went to a flop with two other players of {A-Clubs} {9-Hearts} {5-Diamonds} in the small blind. Katchalov led out with 10,000, a short-stacked opponent folded and his opponent on the button raised to 25,000. Katchalov called and then checked the {4-Diamonds} turn. His opponent tapped the table as well and the {9-Diamonds} came on the river.

Both players checked again, Katcholov tabled {K-Diamonds} {K-Hearts} and his opponent showed {A-} {J-} for the win.

Lindgren Sends One Home

Erick Lindgren
Erick Lindgren

Erick Lindgren made it 4,000 to go from the cutoff only to have the player on the button move all in for his last 61,000. Action folded back around to Lindgren who instantly called by dropping a stack of orange t5,000 chips in the middle.

Lindgren: {A-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds}
Opponent: {A-Hearts}{6-Hearts}

The players were made to wait for about a minute before the ESPN camera crew came over to tape the action. The dealer pounded the table and produced {7-Spades}{K-Hearts}{K-Clubs}.

"Ooh," said Rob Perelman from across the table. "It's gonna be tough to get out of this one."

The {2-Spades} came on fourth street and Lindgren's opponent was drawing dead. The board completed with the {8-Spades} and Lindgren was able to reduce the field by one and increase his stack fo 178,000.

Hellman Doing More Than Well, Man

A player raised to 5,000 from early position and Erik Hellman called from the cutoff. The flop came {6-Clubs}{K-Hearts}{4-Clubs}. The raiser continued with a bet of 6,700, and Hellman called again. The turn brought the {3-Hearts} and another bet from Hellman's opponent, this time for 10,500, and Hellman stuck around once more.

The river was the {9-Hearts} and Hellman's opponent decided against firing another barrel. Hellman checked as well, his opponent showed {5-Spades}{5-Diamonds}, and Hellman turned over {7-Clubs}{7-Hearts} for the better pair.

Galfond Tanks Into Break

We only came to the table on the river, but we saw that a gigantic pot had developed between Phil Galfond and Bryan Vanrijsbergen. There was already 80,000 in the middle, and the board read {5-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{9-Spades}{2-Hearts}{10-Clubs}. Galfond had fired out 53,500, but he was the one making a decision, as Vanrijsbergen had moved all in for around 200,000.

Galfond tanked for a few minutes, and at one point asked Vanrijsbergen: "Can you do me a favor? Can you not show if I fold because I'll probably be sad." Vanrijsbergen didn't say anything, and eventually, Galfond folded. Vanrijsbergen leaned back in his chair, and let out a big sigh of relief. Galfond told him nice hand, and left to take his break.
