A Pair of Hands for Lovgren

Sofia Lovgren has three World Series of Poker cashes under her belt and they have all come from this year's WSOP. We recently caught up to her playing a hand with a {7-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs} flop exposed. Lovgren checked, and her opponent bet out 4,300. After a minute or two passed Lovgren announced all in, a bet that would put her shorter stacked opponent all in. Lovgren's opponent folded and she took down the pot.

A few hands later we found her mixing it up again, this time the flop read {k-Spades}{10-Spades}{A-Diamonds}. Lovgren was again heads up against an unknown opponent, but this time she was in late position. Her opponent checked and Lovgren bet out 1,700. A call was made and both players were off to the turn.

The {Q-Clubs} on fourth street brought a repeat of action with Lovgren's opponent checking and the Swedish pro betting out 2,350. Lovgren's opponent called and the dealer turned over the {8-Spades} for the river. We saw another check from the early position player and after a minute or two passed a bet of 5,875 from Lovgren. Lovgren's opponent folded and she took down the pot.

Hachem Headed Out

It just wasn't a good day for 2005 Main Event Champion Joe Hachem. We thought he would get a comeback going after getting back up to 20,000, but he tweeted shortly after that his aces were cracked by a flopped set to knock him down to 8,000. He was eliminated shortly after.

We didn't get too many details on the hand, but what we do know is that Jim McCrink raised it up to 900 in late position, and that Hachem shipped it all in for about 5,000 from the button. McCrink made the call holding {4-}{4-}, while Hachem had {j-Hearts}{9-Hearts}. We don't know the board, but we do know that the fours held, sending the former champion to the rail.

Aces Good For Pollak

The action was started with a raise to 700 from a player in early position. The player in the hijack flicked out a call and it was on to Kevin Pollak in the small blind. He would three-bet to 3,000 and both his opponents would call.

Flop: {a-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{10-Spades}

On the flop, Pollak checked and the early position player bet 3,500. The hijack folded and it was back on Pollak, who went all in. His opponent folded and Pollak slapped over {a-Clubs}{a-Spades}, showing the table his set of aces.

Gazes Gone

Billy Gazes got off to a good start in the first half hour or so, but it was all downhill from there for him, and he has just been eliminated.

We caught up with the action as the flop of {7-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{9-Diamonds} was being put out. There were three players in the hand, and the other two checked to Gazes, who fired out 6,800. Sergey Tikhonov was the only caller, and the turn brought the {10-Spades}.

Tikhonov checked to Gazes, and Gazes went into the tank for a long time. Usually when a player thinks for this long, it is because they are deciding what to do after their opponent has bet. After a few minutes of thought, Gazes went all in for just under 13,000, and Tikhonov snap called.

Tikhonov: {9-Hearts}{9-Clubs}
Gazes: {a-Hearts}{10-Clubs}

Gazes had turned top pair, but he was drawing dead to the flopped set of Tikhonov. The meaningless river was the {q-Spades}, and Gazes headed to the rail. It's been a decent summer for Tikhonov, who has recorded two five figure cashes. First he placed 17th in the $5,000 Mixed Max Event, and then he took 34th in Event 54: $1,000 No Limit Holdem. He's off to a great start today, as he's sitting on 67,000.

Small Hit to Hellmuth

Action folded to Phil Hellmuth on the button and he raised to 725. The players in the blinds both called to see a {Q-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{5-Clubs} flop.

All three players checked through to the {6-Spades} turn and the player in the small blind checked. The big blind bet 1,100, Hellmuth min-raised to 2,200, and the small blind ducked out of the way. The player in the big blind called and quickly checked the {J-Diamonds} river. Hellmuth checked, too, and was shown {Q-Hearts}{3-Hearts} by his opponent.

Hellmuth mucked and slipped to about 25,000 in the process.

Former Main Event Champ Bechtel Gone

Jim Bechtel, the winner of the 1993 World Series of Poker Main Event, has just been eliminated. He was all in preflop against three other players. The flop came down {8-Hearts}{7-Spades}{4-Spades} and Bob Rawls bet 1,800. The other two active players, one being Claudio Rinaldi, both folded and Rawls was left up against the at-risk Bechtel.

Bechtel held the {A-Spades}{Q-Hearts} for two overs against the {6-Spades}{6-Diamonds} for Rawls. The turn was the {6-Clubs} to give Rawls a set and left Bechtel needing just a five on the river to chop the pot and stay alive.

The river completed the board with the {10-Hearts} and Bechtel was eliminated.
