The March to the High Roller Final Table Begins on Day 2

The WSOP APAC
The WSOP APAC

Yesterday the World Series of Poker Asia-Pacific Event #10: AU$25,000 High Roller kicked off with 63 players. After 10 levels of play, just 31 of them remained with bracelet winner Andrew Hinrichsen and his stack of 346,000 leading the way.

Not too far behind him are two accomplished players in Mike Leah (320,500) and David "MissOracle" Yan ($319,800). The former has already had a heck of a year amassing $1,588,069 in tournament winnings, while the latter has already had success here at the Crown Casino when he finished sixth in the 2013 Aussie Millions Main Event for $232,254.

Others still in the hunt include recent WSOP APAC bracelet winners Sam Higgs (223,500) and Rory Young (215,100); 2012 WSOP Main Event champ and Player of the Year Greg Merson (174,200); 13-time gold bracelet winner Phil Hellmuth (149,600); 2010 WSOP Main Event champ Jonathan Duhamel (137,700); and online pro Richard "nutsinho" Lyndaker (121,000).

Cards will be in the air at 2:30 p.m. local time, which is a little over an hour from now. The plan for the day is to play down to the final table of six, which will be televised on Friday. Levels 11-16 will be 45 minutes long, and then beginning with Level 17 they'll jump to 60 minutes. There will be a 15-minute break after every two levels, with a one-hour dinner break scheduled after six levels of play. Finally, late registration is open up until the start of Level 13.

Who will navigate the stacked field to earn a seat at the final table? Join us in a bit as we answer tat question here on Day 2 of the WSOP APAC Event #10: AU$25,000 High Roller.

Early Double for Roberts

Nível 11 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante

We're not sure of the action, but we do know Brian Roberts got his stack all in on the turn with a board reading {9-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}{j-Clubs}. It appeared Rory Young may have made a move at the pot with the {a-Spades}{k-Clubs}, but whatever the case he was drawing dead as Roberts held trips with the {k-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}. The {A-Hearts} was run out on the river for good measure and Roberts was pushed the pot.

Small Action

Nível 11 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante

The early days of tournaments are often the "felling out" period, and some of the tables are doing just that here on Day 2.

On one table, Brian Roberts opened with a raise to 5,600 from under the gun, and Jeff Gross called from the big blind. The flop came down {A-Hearts}{J-Spades}{8-Clubs}, and Gross checked. Roberts bet 9,000, and Gross folded.

Over on another table, Sam Khouiss raised from early position and Sean Winter reraised from the cutoff seat. Khouiss called, and the flop came out {K-Spades}{Q-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}. Khouiss checked, Winter bet 7,200, and Khouiss folded.

Rossiter's Day is Done

Jesse Sylvia opened with a raise to 5,000 under the gun and action folded all the way around to Jeff Rossiter, who shoved all in for roughly 15,000 from the big blind. Sylvia snap-called and Rossiter discovered the bad news.

Rossiter: {4-}{4-}
Sylvia: {k-}{k-}

The board ran out clean and Rossiter took his leave from the tournament.

Hunyh Punished for a Good Call

Nível 11 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante

We picked up the action on the turn with a board reading {2-Clubs}{9-Spades}{4-Clubs}{j-Spades}. Danny Hunyh had checked from the small blind, and 2012 WSOP runner-up Jesse Sylvia bet (how much we're not sure) from the under-the-gun position. Hunyh responded with a check-raise to 28,100, and Sylvia three-bet jammed for 58,600 more. Hunyh thought long and hard before making the call.

Sylvia: {8-Clubs}{7-Clubs}
Hunyh: {a-Spades}{j-Hearts}

Hunyh was ahead as Sylvia was drawing to a straight and flush, but he was punished when the {5-Clubs} river gave Sylvia the said flush.

"Good call," Sylvia offered as consolation. It was at the time, but then the river came.

Only the Good Die Young

Nível 11 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante

Brian Roberts raised to 5,600, and then Rory Young reraised to 14,500. Roberts came back with a four-bet to 28,500, and Young announced that he was all in — a shove worth a little over 100,000. Roberts snap-called with the {A-Hearts}{K-Spades} and had Young's {A-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds} in bad shape.

The {K-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{5-Spades} flop made matters worse for Young, but the {J-Spades} on the turn did give him some life in the form of a gutshot straight draw. The river was the {4-Hearts}, though, and Young was eliminated.

Roberts climbed to 375,000 in chips.
