Hands #38-42: "Are We even now?"

Nível 17 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

Hand #38: Phil Hellmuth raised to 11,000 from the button and got the blinds and antes.

Hand #39: Alexander Antonios raised from the button and Yu Kurita defended her big blind. On the {A-Clubs} {A-Diamonds} {5-Hearts} flop, Kurita check-called a bet of 8,500 and both checked the {2-Spades} on the turn. Kurita then bet 16,000 after the {2-Hearts} appeared as final community card and Antonios quickly got out of the way.

Hand #40: Hellmuth raised to 11,000 from under the gun and Steven Zhou called in the big blind. The {3-Clubs} {5-Spades} {A-Clubs} flop triggered no action and Zhou then bet 11,000 on the {8-Clubs} turn. Hellmuth called and ended up folding the {2-Diamonds} on the river when Zhou fired 22,000.

Hand #41: Michael Tran raised to 8,500 and Hellmuth defended his big blind. On the {8-Spades} {J-Diamonds} {3-Diamonds} flop, Hellmuth check-called 10,000 and the {2-Hearts} turn was checked by both. On the {6-Hearts} river, Hellmuth bet 6,000 and Tran laughed out loudly, grabbing the chips and then pretty much handing it over to Hellmuth. The latter showed {10-Clubs} {8-Hearts} and that won the pot. "Are we even now?", Tran joked.

Hand #42: Antonios raised the button and Kurita called in the big blind to check down the {6-Hearts} {A-Hearts} {6-Clubs} flop and the {7-Clubs} on the turn. There was no action either after the {3-Hearts} river and Kurita claimed the pot with {K-Hearts} {J-Clubs}.

Hands #32-37: Hellmuth Takes a Big Hit

Nível 17 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

Hand #32: Steven Zhou raised to 10,000 from the button and won the blinds and antes.

Hand #33: Kurita Yu raised to 9,000 under the gun, Michael Tran defended the big blind, and then both players checked the {j-Hearts}{j-Spades}{9-Spades} flop. When the {2-Hearts} appeared on the turn, Tran bet 12,000, Yu called, and the {3-Hearts} completed the board on the river. Tran bet again, this time 32,000, and Yu quickly folded.

Hand #34: Alex Antonios raised to 8,500 from the button, Yu called from the big blind, and the flop fell {7-Spades}{10-Hearts}{k-Spades}. Yu check-called a bet of 11,500, and then check-folded to one of 26,500 on the {Q-Hearts} river.

Hand #35: Tran raised to 10,000 from the button but folded when Yu pushed back with a three-bet to 35,000 from the small blind.

Hand #36: Zhou limped the small blind and then folded when Hellmuth raised from the big.

Hand #37: Tran raised to 11,000 under the gun and then called when Hellmuth three-bet to 30,000 from the small blind. Hellmuth then bet 15,000 on the {8-Spades}{7-Spades}{2-Diamonds} flop, Tran called, and the dealer burned and turned the {J-Diamonds}. Hellmuth wasted little time in betting 20,000, and Tran thought long and hard before raising to 60,000. Hellmuth snap-called and then checked the {J-Clubs} river.

Tran used two hands to slide out a bet of 62,000, and Hellmuth called.

"You're not gonna like this," Tran said before tabling the {j-Hearts}{j-Spades} for quads. Hellmuth didn't show, but stated that he had a pocket pair smaller than the jacks.

Hand #27: Michael Tran raised to 9,500 and Phil Hellmuth peeled from the big blind to see the {6-Clubs} {K-Clubs} {9-Hearts} flop. Both players checked and Hellmuth won the pot with a bet of 13,000 on the {3-Hearts} turn.

Hand #28: Steven Zhou raised to 10,000 from the cutoff and Tran called only to check-fold the {K-Clubs} {3-Hearts} {A-Spades} flop to a continuation bet of 12,000.

Hand #29: Alexander Antonios made it 8,500 from the button and Yu Kurita called in the big blind to see the {A-Clubs} {Q-Spades} {3-Spades} flop. Kurita check-raised from 9,000 to 22,000 and Antonios folded with the words "nice hand."

Hand #30: Antonios raised to 8,500 from the cutoff and folded to a three-bet of Kurita for 20,000.

Hand #31: Tran raised to 10,500 and Hellmuth defended his big blind. Both checked the {3-Hearts} {10-Diamonds} {J-Diamonds} flop and the {8-Diamonds} fell on the turn. Hellmuth bet small for only 8,000 and Tran called, he did so again for 27,000 after the {A-Hearts} on the river. Hellmuth showed {9-Diamonds} {7-Hearts} for a straight and took down a nice pot.

Hand #25: Alex Antonios raised to 8,500 from the cutoff and won the pot.

Hand #26: Michael Tran raised to 9,500 from the cutoff and Phil Hellmuth called from the big blind. When the flop came down {k-Clubs}{q-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}, Hellmuth checked and Tran bet 13,500. Hellmuth woke up with a check-raise to 28,000, and Tran pushed back with a four-bet to 60,000. Hellmuth snap-shoved for 73,500 more, and Tran hit the tank.

"You're ahead. There's just so much money in there," Tran said.

"What do you have, jack-ten?" Hellmuth asked. "Hurry up and fold."

"You have the best hand, why do you want me to fold?" Tran asked. Eventually Tran did fold.

"Of course I have a king, I'm Phil Hellmuth. What do you think," Hellmuth said before flashing the {K-Hearts}.

Hands #20-24: Tran Takes Two

Nível 17 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

Hand #20: Alexander Antonios raised to 8,500 from the cutoff and called the three-bet of Michael Tran from one seat over to 23,500. On the {2-Diamonds} {10-Hearts} {7-Spades} flop, Antonios check-called 32,500 and both players then checked down the {J-Diamonds} on the turn and the {K-Hearts} on the river. Tran turned over {A-Spades} {A-Clubs} and that took down the pot.

Hand #21: Phil Hellmuth defended his big blind against a raise of Tran and bet the {5-Hearts} {2-Diamonds} {3-Diamonds} flop for 8,000. Tran raised to 18,000 and Hellmuth folded.

Hand #22: Antonios received a walk in the big blind.

Hand #23: Steven Zhou raised to 10,000 and claimed the blinds and antes.

Hand #24: Hellmuth raised to 10,000 and Tran called to see the heads-up flop of {6-Clubs} {3-Hearts} {9-Diamonds}. Tran check-called a bet of 15,000 and both checked through the {K-Clubs} on the turn. The {A-Hearts} completed the board on the river and Tran check-folded when Hellmuth made it 14,000 to go with about 74,000 behind.

Hand #15: Antonios raised to 8,500 from the cutoff, Tran and Steven Zhou called from the button and big blind respectively, and the flop came down {2-Spades}{10-Hearts}{6-Spades}. Two checks saw Tran bet 16,500, and both his opponents folded.

Hand #16: Tran raised to 8,000 from the cutoff, Phil Hellmuth called from the big blind, and then both players checked the {7-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}{k-Clubs} flop. Hellmuth checked the {5-Hearts} turn, and then folded when Tran bet 8,500.

Hand #17: Zhou raised to 10,000 from the button and took down the blinds and antes.

Hands #8-12: Hellmuth Launches Into a Tantrum

Nível 16 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante

Hand #8: Yu Kurita raised to 7,500 under the gun and won the pot.

Hand #9: Phil Hellmuth raised to 11,000 from the cutoff and then called when Alex Antonios three-bet to 28,500 from the button. Hellmuth checked the {7-Spades}{j-Clubs}{5-Spades} flop, but then woke up with a check-raise to 50,000 after Antonios bet 23,500. Antonios made the call and then called a big bet of 77,000 from Hellmuth on the {A-Spades} turn. Both players followed that up by checking the {2-Clubs} river.

Hellmuth tabled the {6-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}, but it was no good as Antonios had turned a pair with the {a-Clubs}{k-Clubs}. Hellmuth shot out of his chair in disbelief, claiming that he'd been studying his opponent for days and was waiting for such a spot.

"It doesn't make sense to me. How bad can you play?" Hellmuth said while chastising Antonios for calling his check-raise on the flop. This type of banter continued for the better part of five minutes.

Hand #10: Three players saw a flop of {5-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{2-Clubs} and Steven Zhou checked from the big blind. Antonios bet 8,500 from the cutoff, Michael Tran folded from the button, and Zhou called. When the {10-Hearts} appeared on the turn, Zhou bet 20,000, Tran called, and the {K-Diamonds} completed the board on the river.

Zhou check-called a bet of 28,500 but mucked when Antonios tabled the {j-Diamonds}{j-Spades} for two pair.

Hand #11: Zhou raised to 7,000 from the small blind and Hellmuth folded the big.

Hand #12: Zhou raised to 7,000 from the button, Antonios called from the big blind, and it was heads-up action to the {8-Clubs}{4-Spades}{a-Hearts} flop. Antonios checked and then folded when Zhou bet 7,500.

Bruno Politano Eliminated in 6th Place (AU$ 19,809)

Nível 16 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante
Bruno Politano
Bruno Politano

Hand #6: Michael Tran opened the action with a raise to 7,000 and only Steven Zhou in the small blind called to see the flop of {6-Spades} {5-Clubs} {7-Hearts}. Zhou check-folded to a continuation bet of 7,500 and Tran raked in the pot.

Hand #7: Bruno Politano made it 8,000 to go and the action folded to Phil Hellmuth. "How much you got there, Bruno?" he asked. The November Niner from Brazil counted his stack and Hellmuth then three-bet to 30,000.

All other players folded and Politano moved all in for around 75,000 in chips. Hellmuth called immediately and it was the classic coin flip.

Politano: {Q-Diamonds} {Q-Hearts}
Hellmuth: {A-Clubs} {K-Diamonds}

There was no help yet on the {J-Diamonds} {J-Spades} {5-Clubs} flop, but the 13 time bracelet winner spiked the {K-Spades} on the turn to improve. Politano now needed one of the two remaining queens in the deck to avoid elimination, but the {7-Clubs} on the river was a brick. They shook hands and Politano joined the rail.
