Piskopos Bursts the Bubble to Lead Final 27 Into the Money

Nível 11 : 500/1,000, 100 ante
Chip Leader Nick Piskopos
Chip Leader Nick Piskopos

The 2014 World Series of Poker Asia-Pacific continued on Monday as 250 players turned out for Event #4 AU$1,650 No-Limit Hold’em Terminator, a tournament that put a $500 bounty on everyone’s head. Additionally, a prize pool of AU$250,000 was created with AU$61,250 reserved for the winner.

The plan for the day was to play 10 one-hour levels, but toward the end of the night just 28 players remained, and with all but one of them slated to make the money, the decision was made to play an extra level in the hope of bursting the bubble. It took awhile, but eventually Nick Piskopos, who finished as the Day 1 chip leader, went runner-runner to eliminate 2013 WSOP Main Event champ Ryan Riess as the bubble boy.

Piskopos got most of his chips in Level 8 (200/400/50) when three players each put in 800 preflop and saw a flop of {7-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{q-Clubs}. From there, they each put in 2,675, the dealer burned and turned the {5-Clubs}, and [Removed:415] bet 10,000 from the big blind. The third player folded, and then Piskopos raised all in for roughly 50,000. Doria called off for 38,000 and the cards were turned up.

Piskopos: {8-Spades}{9-Clubs}
Doria: {q-Spades}{10-Diamonds}

Piskopos decided to ride or die with his up-and-down straight draw, which he needed to his as Doria was sitting with top two pair. The dealer burned one last time and put out the {6-Clubs} on the river. Piskopos spiked his straight and Doria was sent to the rail.

Others who fell on Day 1 were reigning Aussie Millions champ Ami Barer; 13-time bracelet winner Phil Hellmuth; Australia’s own Jackie Glazier; 2006 WSOP Player of the Year Jeff Madsen; birthday boy Winfred Yu; Big One for One Drop champ Antonio Esfandiari; reigning WSOP APAC champ Daniel Negreanu; and Luke Brabin, who was fresh off a bracelet win.

This past weekend, George Danzer passed Brandon Shack-Harris atop the 2014 World Series of Poker Player of the Year leaderboard, which is a race hotly contested between the two. Shack-Harris has exacted some revenge by eliminating Danzer for Event #4 and then going on to make the money, ensuring valuable POY points that will give him back the lead.

In what would be Danzer's final hand, which took place in Level 9 (300/600/75), the player on the button opened for 1,300 an Danzer three-bet to 3,400 from the small blind. Shack-Harris then four-bet to 8,200 from the big, the original raiser folded, and Danzer moved all in for 15,750. Shack-Harris called and it was off to the races.

Shack-Harris: {10-Spades}{10-Hearts}
Danzer: {a-Clubs}{k-Clubs}

Danzer needed to improve, but that proved easier said than done as the board ran out a clean {3-Spades}{5-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}{8-Spades}. With that, Danzer sent his $500 bounty chip to Shack-Harris, who went on to bag 21,400.

Others who made it through to Day 2 are David Bowen (119,100), Dylan Hortin (62,000), Daniel Neilson (48,000), Tony Hachem (41,900), Mike Watson (40,600), and Ismael Bojang (26,100).

The remaining 27 players will return to action at 12:30 p.m. local time on Tuesday to play down to the final table of nine. The PokerNews Live Reporting Team will be there every step of the way to bring you all the action and eliminations from the Crown Casino in Melbourne, Australia, so be sure to check back then.

Ryan Riess Bubbles in 28th

Nível 11 : 500/1,000, 100 ante
Ryan Riess
Ryan Riess

Daniel Neilson opened the pot with a raise and both Ryan Riess and Nick Piskopos made the call to see a {Q-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{3-Clubs} flop fall.

Piskopos bet out 3,000 from the big blind and Neilson called before Riess moved all in for 14,200 with Piskopos calling and Neilson folding.

Piskopos: {J-Clubs}{J-Diamonds}
Riess: {A-Hearts}{A-Diamonds}

With Riess leading, the {9-Hearts} on the turn was one of the worst cards he could have seen as it gave Piskopos the most outs. Unfortunately for the 2013 World Champion, one of those outs would land on the river as the {K-Clubs} spiked to give Piskopos the straight and send Riess to the rail as the tournament bubble boy.

Play On!

Nível 10 : 400/800, 100 ante

Tournament Director John Waters has just announced to every table that we will be playing until we reach the final 27 players and are in the money.

"I don't want someone coming back tomorrow and bubbling on the first hand" announced Waters to one of the players.

And with that announcement, play will enter the eleventh hour in an effort to reach the money.

Mike Watson

Mike Watson opened to 1,600 and Josh Barrett three-bet to 4,300 from the button. Watson responded by making it 9,600 only to have Barrett move all in for over 70,000. Watson called for his 41,400 and the cards were tabled.

Barrett: {10-Diamonds}{10-Spades}
Watson: {A-Spades}{K-Diamonds}

The board ran out {K-Clubs}{J-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{9-Spades}{8-Diamonds} and Watson doubled through to roughly 85,000 as Barrett slipped to 36,000 in chips.

Danzer vs Shack-Harris

This past weekend, George Danzer passed Brandon Shack-Harris atop the 2014 World Series of Poker Player of the Year leaderboard, which is a race hotly contested between the two. Shack-Harris has exacted some revenge by eliminating Danzer for Event #4 and giving himself a freeroll to valuable POY points.

In what would be Danzer's final hand, the player on the button opened for 1,300 an Danzer three-bet to 3,400 from the small blind. Shack-Harris then four-bet to 8,200 from the big, the original raiser folded, and Danzer moved all in for 15,750. Shack-Harris called and it was off to the races.

Shack-Harris: {10-Spades}{10-Hearts}

Danzer needed to improve, but that proved easier said than done as the board ran out a clean {3-Spades}{5-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}{8-Spades}. With that, Danzer sent his $500 bounty chip to his arch rival (the two have actually become good friends).

Clements Late Registers; Promptly Busts

Nível 7 : 150/300, 25 ante
Scott Clements
Scott Clements

Scott Clements was among the last players to enter this tournament, and he got things started by squaring off against Darian Tan.

In one hand, action folded to Clements and he limped from the small blind. Tan checked his option from the big, and then both players checked the {3-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{6-Hearts} flop as well as the {2-Spades} turn. Clements then bet 300 on the {4-Spades} river and Tan made a quick call. Clements tabled the {6-Diamonds}{7-Hearts} for flopped trips, and it was good as Tan mucked.

Not long after, Clements got his stack all in holding {k-}{9-} suited only to run into Tan again, who had the better hand with {a-}{9-}. The board ran out queen high, and Clements' run in Event #4 came to an end in less than an hour.

Batoz Collects an Octo-Niner Bounty

Nível 7 : 150/300, 25 ante
Russell Thomas
Russell Thomas

Action folded around to 2012 WSOP Octo-Niner Russell Thomas on the button and he shoved all in for approximately 4,400. Rodoljub Batoz took his time before calling from the small blind, and the cards were flipped up after the big blind got out of the way.

Batoz: {a-Clubs}{9-Clubs}
Thomas: {j-Spades}{10-Spades}

Thomas was behind, but he was drawing to two live cards. The {8-Hearts}{q-Clubs}{4-Hearts} flop didn't hit Thomas, but it did give him a gutshot straight draw. The {4-Spades} turn was no help, and neither was the {5-Hearts} river. Thomas gave his bounty chip to Batoz, but had one other to cash in for $500.

"It'll Take a Miracle to Win this One"

Nível 6 : 100/200, 25 ante
Antonio Esfandiari
Antonio Esfandiari

After the player on the button moved all in for 2,150 from the button, a short-stacked Antonio Esfandiari called from the big blind.

Esfandiari: {a-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}
Button: {a-Spades}{j-Spades}

Esfandiari's kicker issues failed to get resolved as the board ran out {q-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{k-Spades}{j-Diamonds} and he was left with just 450 after the hand.

In the very next hand, the player in the cutoff limped and Colm Galloway raised to 475 from the button. Esfandiari called off, the big blind called, and the limper came along as well.

"It'll take a miracle to win this one," Esfandiari said as he stood from his chair. Two checks on the {q-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}{4-Spades} flop saw Galloway bet 1,100, and the other two players folded.

Galloway: {2-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}
Esfandiari: {10-Clubs}{7-Hearts}

Esfandiari was thrilled to see he was drawing as good as he was, but it was all for naught as the {6-Hearts} blanked on the turn followed by the {3-Diamonds} river. Esfandiari sent his Terminator chip over to Galloway, but he had one other from an earlier knock out, meaning he'll get $500 back.

Brabin Won't Capture 2nd Bracelet Here in Event #4

Nível 4 : 75/150, 0 ante
Luke Brabin
Luke Brabin

Yesterday Luke Brabin became the first bracelet winner of the 2014 World Series of Poker Asia-Pacific when he took down Event #1 $1,100 No-Limit Hold'em Accumulator for AU$131,365. After receiving his bracelet in a ceremony earlier today, Brabin hopped in Event #4 hoping to capture some more hardware. That's not in the cards though.

A preflop raising war resulted in Luke Brabin getting his last 2,550 all in preflop against Fred Alam and another player.

Alam: {a-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}
Brabin: {a-Diamonds}{9-Spades}
Opponent: {6-Spades}{7-Spades}

Brabin called for a nine, but his pleas fell on deaf ears as the board ran out {8-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}. The unknown player won the hand and laid claim to Brabin's $500 bounty.
