Day 1a of the Winamax Poker Open Bratislava €500 Main Event at the Banco Casino has come to a close after 21 levels of play.

The first starting flight attracted 427 entries, which saw €187,880 go into the prize pool, however that number is officially €264,880 due to pre-registered players for the upcoming Day 1’s.

Of the 427 entries, just 71 players advanced the tournament’s Day 2. Benjamin Gros topped the end of day chip counts, finishing the heat off with a 822,000 stack. Martin Munoz and Dominik Desset also had a fruitful time on the felt and bagged 737,000 and 706,000 respectively. Yohan Gornadha had bagged a stack of 23,000 but forfeited it to try and come back with a bigger chip count.

Among the entries were several member’s of Winamax Team Pro’s stable. Romain Lewis, Bruno Lopes, Gaelle Baumann, Alejandro Romero, Guillaume Diaz, Alexane Najchaus and Loic Debregeas all battled in the opening starting flight but found themselves on the wrong side of the rail as the day played out.

There was one Winamax Team Pro who did advance, and that was Pierre Calamusa. The Frenchman navigated much of the day with a short stack. Calamusa managed to pilot over 270,000 chips through to Day 2 but will need to spin it up to have any hope of making Day 3.

Yann Lormel was the unfortunate player to bubble after his ace-king fell to David Gouedard’s pocket queens. Their elimination ensured everyone else a min-cash, which will be determined when the starting flights conclude.

There were also a host of notable names who also entered the Day 1a with WSOP bracelet winners Dalibor Dula and Jonathan Therme making the trip to Slovakia. However, both players were unable to bag and tag a stack for Day 2, which they have several more opportunities to do just that.

Lormel Loses Flip and Bubble WPO Bratislava Main Event Day 1a

Yann Lormel
Yann Lormel

David Gouedard opened to 20,000 from under the gun before Yann Lormel moved all in with his last 97,000 chips. Gouedard quickly called and the players flocked to the table to see the action unfold.

Yann Lormel: {a-Spades}{k-Hearts}
David Gouedard: {q-Spades}{q-Diamonds}

It was a classic flip but this time the pocket queens would hold as the board ran out with the {10-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{2-Spades}{2-Hearts}{q-Clubs}.

Day 1a has now finished and sees the 72 remaining players advance to Day 2 as well as making the min-cash.

Desset Goes Runner-Runner to Bust Millian

Nível 20 : Blinds 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
Dominik Desset
Dominik Desset

Dominik Desset opened to 18,000 from under the gun before Benjamin Millian three-bet to 65,000 from the small blind. Desset then jammed as the covering stack. Millian, who had around 140,000 behind, took several moments before calling off his stack.

Benjamin Millian: {j-Spades}{j-Diamonds}
Dominik Desset: {a-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}

Millian remained ahead on the {10-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{5-Spades} flop but the {7-Diamonds} turn gave Desset a flush draw do go along with his over cards. The {9-Diamonds} spiked the river and completed Desset's nut flush. Millian took a quick picture of the runout before exiting the room. 77 players remain.

Martin Munoz has appeared to be on fire post the dinner break and has amassed the biggest stack so far in Day 1a.

He added a few more chips to his stack after three-betting to 30,000 from middle position after Julien Dupre opened to 12,000. Dupre let it go to take Munoz' stack over the 800,000 mark.

Victor Hoogstoel opened to 10,000 from under the gun before Romain Malet jammed for 40,000 from the next seat over. Hoogstoel called.

Romain Malet: {a-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}
Victor Hoogstoel: {9-Spades}{9-Hearts}

Malet smashed the {a-Spades}{k-Hearts}{10-Hearts} flop to give him two pair. The {q-Spades} turn did bring in some chuck outs but somehow the {9-Clubs} hit the river to silence the table. Hoogstoel rivered a set to secure the elimination.

The {3-Hearts}{k-Hearts} runout gave Mourino trips and a helpful double up.

Guillaume Diaz

Hugo Saint opened to 7,000 from under the gun and was called by Guillaume Diaz from the cutoff. The big blind also called.

Saint continued for 8,000 on the {a-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{3-Spades} flop and was only called by Diaz. The Winamax Team Pro member then called a bet of 30,000 on the {4-Spades} turn. The {4-Clubs} river paired the board and Saint slid in a stack T-5,000 chips to put Diaz all-in.

Diaz eventually folded and as he did, Romain Lewis shouted "Show the bluff!"

Saint obliged and rolled over his {k-Hearts}{j-Diamonds} for king-high. Diaz smirked and said "One-up," indicating he had king-queen.
