Former Runner-Up Sylvain Loosli Through to Winamax SISMIX Day 2

Nível 14 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante
Sylvain Loosli
Sylvain Loosli

It was another record-breaking day at the Winamax SISMIX festival, with an astonishing 458 entries on Day 1b of the Main Event. This smashed the 369 from last year and, in addition to the 276 yesterday meant that there are a total of 734 entries with Day 1c to go.

There were plenty of Winamax Team Pros in action on Day 1b, with Gaelle Baumann, Leo Margets, Bruno Lopes, Pierre Calamusa and Sylvain Loosli in action. From these five, only Loosli will advance to Day 2, looking to improve on his second place in 2015 the year that Jerome Sgorrano was victorious.

Sgorrano himself was in action today, firing two bullets in Day 1b, but falling short twice in quick succession.

The chip leader on Day 1b is Jean Chenonier. The Frenchman amassed a total of 611,000 chips, slightly ahead of Slovenian Roman Gombosi (555,000). These are the only two players over the 500,000 chip mark, but both still trail yesterday's chip leader Mantas Petrauskas with 643,000.

Other big stacks include Jean De Haas (479,000), Clement Lefevre (473,000), Remi Blanc (453,000), Jamal Tahtah (431,000), and Yannick Ansenne (430,000).

These players will resume play at midday on Saturday, but there is one more Day 1 for players to play in their attempt to make Day 2. That kicks of at midday tomorrow (12th May) with a further 14 levels played.

Stay tuned to PokerNews.com for full updates from the final update, with organisers eyeing a record crowd, with 1,078 the number to beat from the 2017 Main Event.

Interview with Winamax Team Pro Sylvain Loosli

Nível 14 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante
Sylvain Loosli
Sylvain Loosli

We caught up with Winamax Team Pro Sylvain Loosli in the last level of the night to ask him how he felt about the Winamax SISMIX Main Event.

"It's a fun tournament," said Loosli, "It's always fun to play a Winamax tournament, especially here, because most people know us and they play differently. Some people are kind of scared, some like to win hands against us. It's alwaysfun.

"It's an amazing structure and it's good fun."

Loosli has a commemorative button and a bottle at the TheatrO night club to give away should someone bust him, but he says that people don't tend to play so differently against him while at the tables.

"Usually not so much, but I would say they tend to call too much against us thinking we're bluffing a lot It's good fun. I finished second in this tournament three years ago so it would be nice to improve on that."

Loosli wouldn't be the first Winamax Team Pro to have success here in Marrakech, after Bruno Lopes took down the tournament two years ago. We asked him what winning the tournament would mean to him.

"It would be a nice accomplishment," he said, "It's not one of the biggest tournaments on the tour, but there are still a lot of good players. Naturally, it's not my main goal of the year but it would be really nice to win. Winning a tournament is alway amazing. I mean, you can only win a certain amount of tournaments a year."

The Winamax stable of Team Pros has been growing steadily with the acquisitions of Leo Margets, Joao Vieira and Mustapha Kanit, but Loosli says that there is still a real community atmosphere among the Team.

"We had a seminar before EPT Monte Carlo with the new guys; it was really cool to get together for a few days. We did a few activities, talked poker and mental game. That kind of stuff and got to know each other a little bit more. There's a really strong team spirit, which is good. It's very important in poker, it's nothing new for me to say, but it's important to have a group of people you can work with and share things with. That's really nice."

Interview with Winamax Team Pro Adrien Delmas

Nível 10 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante
Adrien Delmas
Adrien Delmas

Adrien Delmas joined the Winamax Team Pro stable in January 2018 after winning his way through the Top Shark Academy. This seven-week long competition involved both poker and theory tests, making candidates prove their mettle against both their fellow candidates and established Winamax team Pros.

At the end of the competition, Delmas emerged triumphant and joined the Winamax Team for a year with a €50,000 package to play certain events throughout the year including both the High Roller and the Main Event here at the Winamax SISMIX.

Delmas had impressed on the live felt, even before he won the Top Shark Academy. In 2014, aged just 19, he finished 4th in the Winamax Poker Open Dublin Main Event for €28,569. Then, in 2016, he finished third 3rd in the Winamax SISMIX High Roller for 155,000 MAD ($15,835).

Finally, last year he took down the Winamax Poker Open Dublin High Roller for €35,370, and he is now back in Marrakech for the Winamax SISMIX five months after becoming a Winamax Team Pro.

"I've definitely got more action at the table because I'm a Team Pro," he said when we asked him how it had been. "Players definitely want to play against me and outplay me. I have to come up with other ways to exploit and play my best against them."

Delmas says that he is proud to wear a brand that he really likes, and one that he had been looking to be a part of since he turned 18.

"It definitely was a goal to become a Winamax Team Pro, for sure, but I wasn't expecting it. There are a lot of players sponsored by Winamax, and I didn't think there was enough space [for me]. I competed in the Top Shark to win, and [Winamax Team Pro manager] Stephane Matheu told me that by then I was next on the list to be recruited by Winamax, so they were pretty happy to have me."

"I just play my best; that's the way I play poker - play the best and we'll see. It's not something I can control!"

Delmas says that his goal in the next three years is to win a WSOP bracelet.

"I just want to win some big events, an EPT or something like that, maybe High Rollers. I want to play a lot of high buy-in tournaments, online or live. That's my main goal - win a bracelet."

The Winamax SISMIX may feel like a vacation to some, with the pool parties and clubbing late into the night, but Delmas says that he enjoys playing here.

"It's so much fun to play a six-max tournament. It's awesome. I love it. It's a small tournament, but there's a big prize at the end of it. It's still a lot of money! If I play, it's to win. Definitely. It would be nice to win."

The board ran out {j-Spades}{k-Spades}{5-Clubs}{k-Hearts}{a-Spades} giving Bohuon quads and sending Baumann to the rail. Former Champion Sgorrano Back for More After Spell at the Pool

Nível 9 : 800/1,600, 200 ante
Jerome Sgorrano
Jerome Sgorrano

Earlier, 2015 Winamax SISMIX Champion Jerome Sgorrano had a brief spell at the tables - no good. And, after spending some time "sampling the atmosphere" of the pool party, he's back for more.

On his return, we asked him what happened on his first bullet on Day 1b.

"I lasted twenty minutes," he said. "I tried to bluff a French guy - no good. After that I lost {a-}{k-} against {a-}{a-} in a four-bet pot. Finally, my ten blinds went in with {a-}{4-} against {3-}{3-}.

The flop came {k-}{q-}{q-}. I say 'Ok, that's good for me!' Turn was a {3-}!"

Sgorrano says that he has extra motivation to win the fifth edition of the Winamax SISMIX - national pride.

"There have been two French winners (Bruno Lopes & Hugo Larachiche) and two Belgian winners (Sgorrano and Davidi Kitai). I try to win it a second time. I have to! I expect it's me or a Belgian friend who will win it.

Jerome Sgorrano

Every player who comes here goes away with good memories of the gorgeous Marrakech weather, and the atmosphere at the tables, but what does Sgorrano like most about the Winamax SISMIX?

"It's a combination of all the things," he said. "The sun? Very good. The pool parties? Very good. And it's a six-max tournament which means it's aggressive. The chips are coming and going and I like to play aggressive. I like it very much."

Contrasting Tournaments for Winamax Team Pros

Nível 8 : 600/1,200, 200 ante
Leo Margets
Leo Margets

A player opened to 2,600 and Winamax Team Pro Leo Margets three-bet to 7,500. Her opponent called but check-folded to a continuation bet from his opponent on the {8-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{k-Hearts} board. Margets sits on just about 100,000.

Meanwhile, former champion Bruno Lopes opened to 2,800 and the small blind called. The pair checked the flop and turn of {a-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{2-Spades} and his opponent bet 5,000 on the {6-Hearts} river. Lopes called quickly, but mucked when shown {q-Hearts}{10-Hearts}.

"Value," he said, stacking up his 57,000 in chips.

Fellow Winamax Team Pro Gaelle Baumann sits on 19,500, while Sylvain Loosli is the pick of the bunch with 125,000.

Two-Time FIFA eSports Champion Bruce Grannec Enjoying His First Poker Tournament

Nível 4 : 250/500, 75 ante
Bruce Grannec in the Winamax SISMIX Main Event
Bruce Grannec in the Winamax SISMIX Main Event

Bruce Grannec used to play competitive FIFA in competitions all over the world. Nicknamed 'The Machine,' he played competitively for ten years, becoming FIFA Interactive World Cup Champion in 2009 & 2013.

By his own admission Grannec's only experience of poker so far, has been playing with his friends at home just for fun. He has also said he has watched poker streams online before.

After becoming world champion in 2009, he said that his victory proved that "if you work hard, you will have success." Today, however, Grannec will have to put all his hard work playing FIFA to one side as he battles the Winamax SISMIX Main Event.

"It's my first time playing in a big tournament!" admitted Grannec. "I really enjoy playing poker with my friends, but that's because there's no pressure. But in this tournament, there definitely is a little bit of pressure and naturally more tension."

Grannec is no stranger to pressure, having competed in numerous FIFA eSports competitions before retiring. However, He says that the mental strength he has gained through competing will only help him so far.

"The mental strength from FIFA competitions will help me, naturally, but in poker, there is that little something more. It will help, but poker is about more than just mental strength."

If Grannec needed any pointers on his first time at the felt, he has the perfect person to do so, as he is sat to the direct left of Spanish Winamax team Pro Leo Margets.

Stay tuned to see if Grannec can make it through to Day 2.

In his very first hand, he was in the big blind and received a walk. Looks like the former champion will be getting the respect of his tablemates today!

Winamax SISMIX 2018

There are already 178 players registered on Day 1b of the Winamax SISMIX Main Event, and players in the Main Event have a series of special prizes to keep an eye out for.

The first eliminations on each Day 1 will receive entry to Saturday evening's hyper-turbo event. Later in the tournament, the bubble boy will receive an entry into next year's Winamax SISMIX event.

If you have a Winamax Team Pro at your table and you eliminate them, not only do you win a special commemorative button stating that you knocked them out, but you also win a bottle from the TheatrO nightclub during the SISMIX.

There is also a bad beat jackpot; if you lose with quads or better you will win entry into next year's Winamax Sismix event. And, if that wasn't enough, there is a good beat jackpot as well! If you make a straight flush with both the cards in your hand, you win a bottle from the TheatrO nightclub during the Sismix.
