Beyer Surges to the Top After Another Hectic Day of Poker at SISMIX Main Event

Nível 13 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

Christophe Beyer has plenty of reasons to be a happy camper. He bagged up the chiplead at day 1b of the 2017 Winamax SISMIX Main Event

It was another stunning day at the Casino de Marrakech as day 1b of the Winamax SISMIX Main Event drew a massive field of 369 runners to the felt.

After 13 levels of 40 minutes each, the massive day 1b field was reduced to 90 survivors, with Frenchman Christophe Beyer topping the standings by bagging and tagging 687,000 by the end of the night. Close behind him is countryman Jeremy Saderne, who managed to turn his starting stack of 50,000 to 623,000. Just two months ago Saderne bested a field of 1,399 players to be crowned the winner of the Winamax Poker Tour Final in Paris, good for a cool €100,000. He's done very well to put himself in a strong position to secure another deep run in this Winamax event as well.

Rounding out the all-French top-5 is Kamel Atoui (575,000), Jean-Pierre Besancon (485,000) and Bruno Soutavong (445,000), all way above the 205,000 chip average by the end of today's play.

The Winamax Pro Team was strongly represented today with no less than six runners, but one by one they fell, leaving only Michel Abecassis behind. Abecassis managed to end on a high note of 235,000 chips, while his colleagues Gaelle Baumann, Davidi Kitai, Aladin Reskallah, Pierre Calamusa and Sylvain Loosli all will have to come back tomorrow if they want to secure a spot on Saturday. The same goes for Leo Margets, who busted in quite the setup. Her flopped top and bottom pair were no good against the better two pair of Pierre Nieto, and the Spaniard exited with three levels left of the day.

French-Vietnamese actor and Winamax VIP Frederic Chau had quite the day at the felt. Early on he was seated with Spanish player Fernandez Francisco, and the two of them had some bloody battles early on. With just 50 minutes left on the tournament clock, Chau won a coinflip to boost his stack to 128,500, but sometime during the last level the VIP was sent packing, and he will have to visit the cashier if he wishes to continue his SISMIX Main Event journey.

On tomorrow's menu will be the third and final heat of the Main Event as Day 1c kicks off at midday, while the 1,600 MAD (€147) Le Totem tournament will commence at 5 pm and the 1,400 MAD HyperTurbo side event will set sail at 10 pm.

Tune back in tomorrow for more action, as the PokerNews live reporting team will be bringing you every bit of the action from warm and sunny Marrakech.

Leo Margets Busts in Spectacular Fashion

Nível 11 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante

Leo Margets made it 5,100 to go from first position, and both Sulvain Meriguet behind her and Pierre Nieto on the button made the call. Margets continued for 8,200 on the {7-Spades}{A-Diamonds}{10-Hearts} flop, Meriguet made it 20,500 before Nieto three-bet to 57,000. Margets moved in for some additional chunk change (62,900 total), Meriguet made the call, and though Nieto was eager to get more chips in the pot, he was only allowed by the dealer to fold or call. He opted for the latter.

The {K-Spades} rolled off on the turn and Nieto instantly announced all-in for a total of 154,900, more than Meriguet was willing to invest, and he eventually made the fold.

Margets confidently turned over {A-Clubs}{7-Clubs} for a flopped two pair, but Nieto just shook his head before revealing {A-Spades}{10-Spades} for the bigger two pair. The {5-Hearts} river was no good for Margets, and the Spanish pro quickly left the tournament area while Nieto was left with quite some stacking of chips to attend to.

Matthieu Lamagnere Wins the SISMIX High Roller for €48,000

Nível 9 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

It was quite a star-studded final table in the SISMIX High Roller with three Team Winamax Pros among the last four. But against all odds, the trophy wouldn't go to one in the Winamax family, as Matthieu Lamagnère managed to outlast them all: Sylvain Loosli exited in 4th, Pierre Calamusa in 3rd before Lamagnère beat Bruno Lopes heads up.

The head-to-head duel started out virtually even, and that lead the players to agree on a deal altering the payouts from 580,000 Dirham to the champion and 408,000 for second place, to 523,000 to the winner and 465,000 to the runner-up.

The final hand of the tournament was a daring three barrel bluff from Lopes holding only {9-Spades}{7-Clubs} on a board of {A-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{A-Hearts}, but Lamagnère wasn't going anywhere with his {A-Clubs}{J-Clubs}, and thus he was crowned the winner.

"I Call Time on Myself"

Nível 3 : 200/400, 50 ante
Frederic Chau
Frederic Chau

French-Vietnamese Actor and Winamax VIP Frederic Chau has just been involved in quite the hand. On a {9-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{2-Hearts} board he and his Spanish opponent Fernandez Francisco had only poured around 2,500 chips each into the pot, but on the river, Chau had bet out 5,250 only to face a shove of 36,000 from Francisco. That got the conversation going.

"You are from Madrid, right? I have an ear for accents, and I recognize yours," Chau said. Fernandez nodded.
"It's only the {7-Clubs} that beats me," Chau continued.
"Do you have the {A-Clubs}? Don't slowroll me, man," Francisco responded.
"I'm sorry guys; I'm gonna need some time to think," Chau responded before going into the tank.

He didn't stay long, as he called time on himself after a few minutes, and even though Francisco insisted on Chau taking his time, a floor manager came over to start the countdown. With a few seconds left Chau finally uttered a fold before sinking back into his chair, and Francisco quickly flashed the {Q-Hearts} before mucking the other.

"Queen-seven," the Spaniard said while stacking his new chips with a sly smile.

In a couple of hours from now, the second of three starting days of the 2017 Winamax SISMIX Main Event gets underway as of midday local time at Casino de Marrakech. Yesterday's heat drew an impressive field of 217 entries, exceeding expectations and making it the biggest SISMIX Day 1a in numerous years. 46 of those players succeeded in bagging up chips by the end of the night and will be back by the felt Saturday to continue their run for the title, but for those who didn't, today is another opportunity to secure advancement.

For the buy-in of 6,000 Moroccan Dirham (€550) participants will receive a starting stack of 50,000 chips; good for 250 big blinds during the first level. The three starting days will feature 13 levels of 40 minutes each, with late registration being open until the completion of level 10. For players busting, a single re-entry will be allowed during the first ten levels as well.

The chipleader thus far, Jerome Sgorrano, is a former champion of this event, as the Belgian rose to the top in the 2015 edition and got 700,000 Dirham (€64,300) for his victory. By amassing a stack of 550,500 chips, more than 11 times the starting stack, Sgorrano is now in pole position to make another deep run at Casino de Marrakech. Close behind follows local player Daniel Cervan with 523,500, while former WPT National Belgium-finalist Quentin Roussey comes in third (504,000). They will be the crowd to catch for today's fighters of the felt.

For those already through Winamax offers plenty of options for entertainment today. For those craving some time out of the tournament area, it is Urban Sounds night by the Es Saadi Resort pool, while the yearly Winamax Beer Pong Open will kick off at 10 pm. For those who are up for a game of poker, there will be a 2,000 MAD (€185) progressive bounty tournament starting at 5 pm, while the night owls are invited to join the 1,500 MAD (€138) Iron Main Side Event by 9 pm.

The PokerNews live reporting team will be on the floor at Casino de Marrakech to provide updates for the entirety of the Main Event: From the very first Shuffle up and deal to the very last river card is dealt Sunday night.
