Nível 10 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante
Will Kassouf Ran Into Griffin Benger on Day 1b

The second and final starting day of the Unibet Open London 2017 Main Event is done. With 265 players on Day 1b, the total field consists of 419 entries. After ten hours of play, the 41 survivors of Day 1a were joined by 81 players from Day 1b. End-of-the-day chipleader is Terry Jordon (356,000), who surpassed Day 1a chipleader Giulio Mascolo to claim the overall chiplead.

122 hopefuls will return tomorrow at noon to battle it out for a share of the total prize pool of £377,100. 62 of them will be going home with at least £1,700, but all eyes will be on the first place price of £71,950 awarded to the winner on Sunday night.

The top five after two starting days is as followed:

#PlayerCountryChip Count
1Terry JordonUnited Kingdom356,000
2Giulio MascoloUnited Kingdom327,600
3[Removed:158]Belgium305,800
4Jerome BrionFrance296,500
5Robert HaighGermany274,000

The day started off with several stars jumping in the tournament. Most eyes were on darts legend Michael van Gerwen, who likes to play poker from time to time to relax. The cards didn't favor Van Gerwen today and the Dutch juggernaut eventually lost a coin flip with ace-queen to pocket sixes to bust.

Unibet Ambassadors Ian Simpson, Dana O'Kearney and David Lappin also failed to advance to Day 2, as did eSports player Thijs "Thijs" Molendijk. Charlotte Van Brabander, who advanced on Day 1a, will be representing the Unibet brand by herself for the remainder of the tournament.

A lot of eyes up front were on Will Kassouf and Griffin Benger. It was the first time for the two to play together since their infamous verbal clash at the WSOP, but both players quickly busted before they got near each others table. However, in true glamour fashion, PokerNews captured the exact moment the two met each other for the first time since last Summer, which was all in good fun.

With a lot of notables busting out in the early stages, it was time for new faces to rise to the occasion. Robert Haigh, who has already amassed over $1,000,000 in lifetime winnings, quickly climbed to the top of the leaderboard and never surrendered it during the day. The German ended his strong showing on Day 1b in second place with 274,000 in chips.

Only one man topped Haigh: Terry Jordon. The Englishman made an incredible hero call that soared him towards the top. Jordon never looked back after the amazing call and ended the day with 356,000 in chips. When asked about the hand, Jordan said his opponent's line didn't make sense.

"We both checked on the flop. On the turn I thought ace-high was good. Then he ships the river. It just didn't make sense to me. It took me four minutes, but eventually I called. It was the turning point of my tournament", the Brit told PokerNews.

The field will combine at noon tomorrow local time and 122 remaining players will play down until the final table is set. PokerNews will be on the floor throughout the weekend to provide all the updates from this exciting first Unibet Open stop of the tenth season!

Thijs Molendijk Eliminated

Thijs Molendijk
Thijs Molendijk

Unibet eSports player Thijs Molendijk's first Unibet Open is over. The popular Hearthstone-streamer three-bet {Q-}{Q-} preflop and his opponent called with {A-Spades}{J-Spades}. On the {Q-Spades}{X-Spades}{X-Spades} flop, all the money went in the middle.

The board didn't fill up and Molendijk was forced to the rail. With Ian Simpson and David Lappin eliminated as well, only Charlotte van Brabander remains as the last Unibet Ambassador standing.

Will Kassouf Eliminated

Nível 7 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

Today will not be the day of Griffin Benger and Will Kassouf locking horns again. After Benger hit the rail earlier, it was now the talkative solicitor from Britain who was forced to the showers.

Kassouf lost his stack in two hands. In the first hand, Kassouf bumped it to 5,000 with {J-}{J-} after a few people limped. Gary Fisher called with {A-}{Q-} from the big blind and saw a dream flop of {Q-}{Q-}{Q-} appear. Kassouf, directly drawing dead, got his stack in on the turn and dropped to ten big blinds.

In the following hand, Kassouf shoved {K-}{J-} and got called by {A-}{9-}. A nine on the flop and the turn ended Kassouf's run in this tournament.

Darts legend Michael van Gerwen's first Unibet Open has come to an end. The Dutchman, who's an avid poker player in his free time, was down to his last fifteen big blinds when his final hand took place.

After a raise and two calls, Van Gerwen looked down at {A-}{Q-} in the big blind and went all in. Two players folded, but the player in the small blind called with {6-}{6-}. The board ran out with a {2-}, {3-}, {4-} and {5-}, which gave the small blind the winner with the higher straight.

Benger and Kassouf Sit Down

Nível 4 : 200/400, 50 ante
Will Kassouf
Will Kassouf

Both Griffin Benger and Will Kassouf have taken their respective seats in this tournament. During last years World Series of Poker Main Event, Benger and Kassouf verbally clashed in a hand that became an instant classic.

Benger ended up eliminating Kassouf with aces versus kings, but not before calling out the British solicitor on his antics. It was a hand that polarised the poker community and gave the pundits much to talk about.

Another confrontation isn't expected yet, as the two couldn't be further removed from each other. Kassouf is sitting at the far table in the Club Room, while Benger is on the other side in the main area.

Kassouf is looking for his first Unibet Open cash, Benger made the final table last year in Malta where he finished 8th for €8,550.

"Doke" and Simpson Ready To Shine

Nível 2 : 100/200, 25 ante
Ian Simpson
Ian Simpson

Brand-new Unibet Poker Ambassadors Ian Simpson and Dara "Doke" O'Kearney are ready to shine here on Day 1b. Together with David Lappin, the Irish trio recently signed on to represent the Unibet brand and fit into Unibet Poker's ethos of being a fun and friendly place to play poker.

Simpson shot to fame in 2013 when he topped a field of 505 entries in the Irish Open Main Event, a result that netted him €265,000 and ended on one knee with a proposal to his girlfriend. Later that year, Simpson was the runner-up in the UKIPT London Main Event and banked an additional £106,869.

O’Kearney, affectionately known as “Doke,” has traveled the globe playing in live poker events. O’Kearney is also a superb writer and keeps an excellent poker blog where he pens his thoughts about all things poker and more. Lappin hasn't taken his seat yet, but will show up later during the day.

Day 1b of the Unibet Open London 2017 Main Event Starts at 11 a.m.

Will Kassouf Will Show Up on Day 1b
Will Kassouf Will Show Up on Day 1b

Welcome to the second starting day of the Unibet Open London 2017 Main Event! Yesterday, 154 hopefuls already clashed at the green felt, with old stalwarts and young up-and-comers alike battling it out. 41 of them survived the day, with Britain's Giulio Mascolo holding the end-of-the-day chip lead with 327,600 in chips.

Today, an even bigger field is expected, with many notables ready to try and become the first Unibet Open winner of the tenth season. Sporting hero and worlds #1 darts player Michael van Gerwen will be one of the players to take a seat today. Van Gerwen won a staggering 25 darts events last year and currently holds all seven major ranking titles. A Unibet Open title is missing from his stacked mantlepiece, but the Dutch juggernaut is no slouch at the tables and will be looking to expand his trophy collection.

Unibet Open Cannes winner Quentin Lecomte, Unibet Open Bucharest winner Traian Bostan and Unibet Ambassadors Ian Simpson, Dara O'Kearney and David Lappin are also scheduled to appear on Day 1b. They will be joined by eSports heroes Thijs "Thijs" Molendijk and Fabien "KioShiMa" Fiey, who will have their Twitch-following on high alert (edit 11:40 - Fiey will not be competing as his CounterStrike team needs to prepare for an upcoming tournament.)

Last but not least, both Will Kassouf and Griffin Benger will enter the tournament. The pair played an instantly famous hand during last summer’s World Series of Poker Main Event when Kassouf was called out by Benger for verbal abuse. The video, in which Benger eventually ended up eliminating Kassouf with aces versus kings, attracted millions of views on YouTube and became the stand-out moment of the series.

Today will feature ten levels of 60 minutes each, with a dinner break scheduled after level 6 (around 5:30 p.m. local time). Late registration will be open up until the start of level 7. All players will start with 30,000 in chips and the tournament is in a freezeout format. PokerNews will be on the floor in The Poker Room in the Grosvenor Casino to provide live coverage of all the action.
