Only 40 hopefuls remain in the flagship tournament of the 2020 PokerStars Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP) and battle for the title in the SCOOP-74-H: $10,300 NLHE [8-Max, Main Event]. The registration had remained open until five minutes prior to the restart and four dozen players entered to boost the field to 609 entries, consisting of 415 unique players and 194 re-entries.

The top 79 spots earned a portion of the $6,090,000 prize pool and a top prize of $1,062,966.47 awaits to the eventual champion in two days time on Wednesday, May 20th, 2020. All survivors so far have $26,786.25 locked up for their efforts but six-figure prizes await all but one contenders that also make it through the following day.

After 11 levels of 30 minutes each and a fraction of level 27, Artem "veeea" Vezhenkov claimed 8,785,576 to his name and narrowly beat Michael "merla888" Gathy for the top spot, as the Belgian ended Day 2 with 8,781,892. Michael "imluckbox" Addamo sits in third with 8,085,377 and "Alexgirs" is hot on his heels with 7,970,277. The overnight top 10 also features streamer and poker coach Benjamin "bencb789" Rolle (6,666,824), online MTT legend "girafganger7" (6,025,576), Thomas "MarToMchat" Boivin (5,803,834) and Pieter "XMorphineX" Aerts (5,439,874).

Both PokerStars ambassadors in contention for Day 2 survived the money bubble as shorter stacks and scored late doubles to live another day. Lex "L. Veldhuis" Veldhuis made it through to the penultimate day with a stack of 1,715,528 and Ben "Spraggy" Spragg is the third-shortest stack with 1,104,950. Right behind Spragg sits Talal "raidalot" Shakerchi with 700,902 and will need an early double up tomorrow if he wants to repeat his victory from 2016.

Lex Veldhuis and Ben Spragg
Lex Veldhuis and Ben Spragg will return for Day 3

Further notables to watch out for include Daniel "Oxota" Dvoress (5,298,837), Francisco "Tomatee" Benitez (4,419,885), Ignat "0human0" Liviu (3,965,152), Ben "Ben86" Tollerene (3,177,602), the former SCOOP Main Event finalist Dinesh "NastyMinder" Alt (2,378,444) and Thomas "WushuTM" Muehloecker (1,378,915), Max "goodeh99" Silver (2,358,856) and WSOPE Main Event champion Jack "Swaggersorus" Sinclair (1,749,601).

Steady Stream of Eliminations Throughout the Day

Barely any minute passed by in the early stages without any elimination as the field was rapidly cut down by more than 40 participants in the first two levels of the day. Some of those that entered late and busted early on were Timofey "Trueteller" Kuznetsov, Mike "goleafsgoeh" Leah and 2017 winner Charlie "Epiphany77" Carrel. Sami "Lrslzk" Kelopuro, who had topped the 2011 edition, was also among those to bow out much sooner than he had hoped for.

The 2020 SCOOP two-time champion Artur "mararthur1" Martirosyan and this year's four-time winner Connor "blanconegro" Drinan didn't get anything going and joined the rail, too. Scott "Aggro Santos" Margereson lost his entire stack within two hands and Alexander "joiso" Kostritsyn saw his jacks cracked by the flopped two pair of Lex "L. Veldhuis" Veldhuis.

As the money bubble kept coming closer, football striker Neymar was still in contention under his moniker "neymar-jr". However, the Brazilian came up short a couple spots when he jammed his short stack with sixes and ran into the kings of Dominik "Bounatirou" Nitsche and the ace-queen of Anatoly "NL_Profit" Filatov. An ace on the river kept Filatov in contention.

The money bubble then burst in rather surprising fashion as it was not one of the several short stacks that ended up without anything to show for. Russia's "serggorelyi7" called the open-shove of Artem "veeea" Vezhenkov for more than 50 big blinds with ace-king suited and lost a flip to fives.

Big Names Bust in Frantic Post-Bubble Period

What followed was a spectacle of eliminations for the next hour and 25 minutes as the field of 79 was cut down all the way to the final 40 hopefuls to wrap up the action for the night. Included in the batch of big names in the money were Justin "ZeeJustin" Bonomo, Fedor "CrownUpGuy" Holz, Dominik "Bounatirou" Nitsche, 10-time SCOOP champion Calvin "cal42688" Anderson, defending champion Gianluca "Tankanza" Speranza, Samuel "€urop€an" Vousden, Ben "Sauce123" Sulsky and Steve "Mr. Tim Caum" O'Dwyer.

Holz got short and stood no chance with queen-jack versus ace-jack while Nitsche ran his kings into a flopped six-high straight. Speranza's bid for an unprecedented third title in a row ended in 49th place as his king-nine suited trailed the king-queen of Anatoly "NL_Profit" Filatov.

Vousden flopped top pair and top kicker but "Alexgirs" turned an unbeatable ten-high straight and instantly called the shove of the Finnish MTT grinder. Sulsky lost a flip with sevens to ace-king and O'Dwyer was gone moments later as his king-queen suited could not connect with the board when facing pocket sevens.

Only a few minutes later play concluded as the field was already down to the final 40. They will return after a good night's sleep to make the next step as of 1.05 p.m. Eastern Standard Time when the action recommences for nearly the entire level 27 which features blinds of 40,000/80,000 and a running ante of 10,000.

Stay tuned to find out who will reach the final table and follow along right here on PokerNews.

Sudden Burst of Eliminations

Nível 26 : 35,000/70,000, 8,750 ante

Samuel "€urop€an" Vousden was one of the bigger stacks heading into the day and the accomplished online MTT grinder made it through the bubble without trouble. However, his tournament just came to an end when he clashed with "Alexgirs".

"Alexgirs" raised the cutoff to 140,000 and Vousden just flat-called in the small blind. On a {10-Hearts}{6-Spades}{2-Diamonds} flop, Vousden check-raised from 130,000 to 450,000 and picked up a call to then jam the {7-Diamonds} turn for 1,565,480. "Alexgirs" snap-called.

Samuel "€urop€an" Vousden: {a-Spades}{10-Diamonds}
"Alexgirs": {9-Spades}{8-Spades}

The {k-Diamonds} river had become a formality as the Belorussian already held the nuts.

Ben "Sauce123" Sulsky was next to fall after losing a flip to "Hatrick19911". Sulsky had doubled his severe short stack previously and then got it in with {7-Spades}{7-Diamonds} on the button to face the {a-Hearts}{k-Clubs} of "Hatrick19911" in the cutoff. Sulsky had spades covered on the {q-Spades}{6-Spades}{3-Spades} flop but the {k-Diamonds} on the turn and {a-Clubs} on the river ended his run.

In a battle button versus small blind, Alex "dynoalot" Difelice raised to 140,000 and called the shove of Steve "Mr. Tim Caum" O'Dwyer for nearly 1.6 million.

Steve "Mr. Tim Caum" O'Dwyer: {k-Hearts}{q-Hearts}
Alex "dynoalot" Difelice: {7-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}

The {10-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{5-Clubs} flop brought no help while O'Dwyer picked up some outs on the {9-Clubs} turn. A blank {2-Diamonds} followed and that spelled the end for O'Dwyer.

Last but not least, "kimokh" was all-in from the big blind in a pot of 3.7 million when he defended the big blind and check-called three barrels by Francisco "chicalltreta" Correia on a board of {6-Spades}{3-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}. Correira tabled {k-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} for a pair of nines and "kimokh" had a bluff catcher with the {a-Hearts}{3-Hearts}.

Defending Champion Speranza Eliminated

Nível 26 : 35,000/70,000, 8,750 ante

Only minutes before the next scheduled 5-minute break, the field was reduced to the final six tables and the title defense of Gianluca "Tankanza" Speranza came to an end.

Anatoly "NL_Profit" Filatov had been cut down, then flopped the nuts to double and open-shoved the button for the last 12 big blinds and change. Speranza was even shorter than that with 374,130 behind and in the big blind, and he made the call.

Gianluca "Tankanza" Speranza: {k-Clubs}{9-Clubs}
Anatoly "NL_Profit" Filatov: {k-Spades}{q-Diamonds}

The board came {k-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{5-Spades}{8-Spades}{5-Clubs} and the kicker played to eliminate Speranza.

Holz Eliminated by Kotelnikov

Nível 25 : 30,000/60,000, 7,500 ante

Andrey "Kot_Spartac" Kotelnikov raised it up from the cutoff and he called the shove of a short-stacked Fedor "CrownUpGuy" Holz on the button to set up the following showdown.

Fedor "CrownUpGuy" Holz: {q-Clubs}{j-Spades}
Andrey "Kot_Spartac" Kotelnikov: {a-Hearts}{j-Clubs}

The {k-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{7-Clubs}{a-Spades}{6-Diamonds} board kept Kotelnikov in the lead with a pair of aces, sending Holz to the rail.

Plenty of Big Pots Emerge

Nível 25 : 30,000/60,000, 7,500 ante

Benjamin "bencb789" Rolle won a big flip with {a-Diamonds}{k-Hearts} against the {j-Spades}{j-Hearts} of Gavin "gavz101" Cochrane in a pot worth 4.73 million when he got there in a battle button versus big blind. The {a-Spades}{q-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{5-Spades} board delivered the ace right away on the flop.

Julien "KroolhearT-1803" Martini also departed from the same table as his suited ace-jack with {a-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds} got flushed by Luuk "pokerkluka" Gieles with the {a-Hearts}{j-Hearts} on a {9-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{4-Hearts} board.

"Dhr. Awesome" ended up second-best with {q-Hearts}{j-Diamonds} on the button as "deivid29" in the small blind had the dominating {k-Clubs}{q-Diamonds} and the kicker played on a {q-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{5-Diamonds} board.

China's WJSS2018 then lost the biggest pot of the tournament so far when they four-bet to 1.2 million and called the five-bet shove of "AverageGreg" for 3 million each to create the following showdown.

"WJSS2018": {j-Spades}{j-Hearts}
"AverageGreg": {k-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}

The board came {j-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}{6-Hearts} to give "AverageGreg" a king-high straight in dramatic fashion.

"serggorelyi7" Eliminated on the Bubble

Nível 24 : 25,000/50,000, 6,000 ante

In two consecutive hands, Artem "veeea" Vezhenkov put opponents to the test on the money bubble and lost the first all-in only to get the chips back and more to jump into a big stack.

James "Cmon_Gasquet" Hopkins open-jammed the last 15 big blinds out of the small blind with the {q-Hearts}{q-Clubs} and Vezhenkov called with the {9-Hearts}{8-Hearts}. The {10-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{5-Spades} flop was a huge sweat for Hopkins but he dodged the draw on the {3-Spades} turn and {3-Diamonds} river.

Fast forward one hand and Vezhenkov open-jammed the small blind himself for an effective 2.8 million. Plenty of other short stacks were hanging in there on the bubble yet "serggorelyi7" called out of the big blind.

"serggorelyi7": {a-Hearts}{k-Hearts}
Artem "veeea" Vezhenkov: {5-Clubs}{5-Spades}

The {8-Clubs}{7-Spades}{4-Spades}{9-Spades}{6-Diamonds} board not only didn't provide any help to "serggorelyi7" but even gave Vezhenkov a straight and burst the bubble.

Neymar Out Before the Money

Nível 23 : 20,000/40,000, 5,000 ante

Down to just eight big blinds in the new level, "neymar-jr" moved all-in and Dominik "Bounatirou" Nitsche called in the cutoff. Anatoly "NL_Profit" Filatov in big blind jammed for nearly 1.1 million and Nitsche quickly called.

"neymar-jr": {6-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}
Anatoly "NL_Profit" Filatov: {a-Spades}{q-Diamonds}
Dominik "Bounatirou" Nitsche: {k-Hearts}{k-Clubs}

Football striker Neymar was in trouble and remained with outs on the {q-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{4-Spades} flop and {9-Clubs} turn. Filatov also needed help to avoid elimination not far away from the money and indeed spiked the {a-Clubs} river to eliminate Neymar and double through Nitsche.

Boivin Into the Lead

Nível 22 : 17,500/35,000, 4,500 ante

A preflop raising war saw "7tHEcROw7" with a four-bet jam for 1,153,224 from under the gun and big stack Thomas "MarToMchat" Boivin instantly called in the hijack.

"7tHEcROw7": {a-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}
Thomas "MarToMchat" Boivin: {k-Spades}{k-Clubs}

It was essentially over on the {k-Hearts}{7-Spades}{3-Diamonds} flop as "7tHEcROw7" needed running diamonds or aces to avoid elimination. The {3-Clubs} turn locked things up for Boivin and that made the {q-Hearts} river a mere formality. Boivin took over the lead and became the first player above five million in chips.

Shakerchi and Alt Double; Astedt Busts

Nível 20 : 12,500/25,000, 3,250 ante

Talal "raidalot" Shakerchi got his stack in out of the small blind with the {k-Spades}{k-Hearts} and "RJYJYR" attempted the knockout wit the {10-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}. The board came {q-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{2-Spades}{a-Hearts}{5-Diamonds} and "RJYJYR" was left with crumbs, he busted shortly after.

Niklas "Lena900" Astedt also bowed out when he flipped with a short stack on the button holding the {6-Hearts}{6-Diamonds} and initial raiser "Hatrick19911" called with {k-Spades}{q-Diamonds}. The {a-Spades}{q-Spades}{9-Spades}{10-Hearts}{a-Diamonds} board improved "Hatrick19911" to the superior two pair.

Last but not least, former SCOOP Main Event finalist Dinesh "NastyMinder" Alt scored a vital double through Artem "veeea" Vezhenkov.

Alt had raised and Vezhenkov called out of the small blind, check-raised the {k-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{2-Hearts} flop and then check-called a bet of Alt on the {a-Spades} turn before check-calling the shove on the {5-Spades} river with {a-Clubs}{q-Hearts} for top pair. Alt, however, had flopped a set with {9-Hearts}{9-Spades} to jump above two million in chips.

Veldhuis Busts Kostritsyn

Nível 19 : 10,000/20,000, 2,500 ante

Out of a stack of 29 big blinds, Alexander "joiso" Kostritsyn min-raised first to act and was called by Michael "munchenHB" Telker on the small blind, Lex "L. Veldhuis" Veldhuis in the big blind also came along. On a {9-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds} flop, the action checked to Kostritsyn and he continued for 61,600. Telker folded and Veldhuis jammed for 590,431, which covered his opponent by two and a half big blinds as Kostritsyn made the call.

Alexander "joiso" Kostritsyn: {j-Clubs}{j-Spades}
Lex "L. Veldhuis" Veldhuis: {9-Hearts}{6-Hearts}

The {10-Hearts} turn and {k-Hearts} river runout failed to improve Kostritsyn and he was sent to the rail.
