The Sunday Warm-Up, long a fixture on players’ weekend schedules, is today another Special Edition, part of the mammoth Spring Championship of Online Poker 2020 on PokerStars: SCOOP-73-H: $2,100 NLHE [Sunday Warm-Up SE], $750k Gtd. The hefty guarantee, the glamorous lure of one of the toughest titles to snaffle, and the huge popularity of this series overall in “unprecedented times” mean that today’s Day 1 is likely to be stacked with well-known online superstars. Plenty of up-and-coming players, too, have featured at the top online level so far this month, whose routes to the table have included a multitude of satellites into the High levels of SCOOP.
With a starting stack of 100,000 and 20 minute blinds throughout Day 1 (initial blinds 250/500), the high numbers of high-rolling contenders expected to take up today’s challenge have plenty of room to manoeuvre (and an optional two re-entries should that room run out). Late registration is open for half of today’s scheduled nine hours of play; Day 2 will start tomorrow (May 18th) at 6:05pm WET (1:05pm EST).
Coverage of this event will begin with the first virtual cards in the air at 15:30 WET.

Among the early registrants (36 in seats as the first hand is dealt) are Luke “Bit2Easy” Reeves, who took down this year’s SCOOP-26-H: $2,100 NLHE 6-Max to bank $116,000, 67-H: $1,050 PLO 6-Max winner “Harleyy30040”, and formidable high roller on both the live and virtual felt Talal “raidalot” Shakerchi (who has also picked up a title already this year, in the $2,100 FL 2-7 Triple Draw (25-H)). The pace of entry has picked up now that the event is rolling, but there's no hurry; late registration is open for four and a half hours.

Lex "L. Veldhuis" Veldhuis has been involved in a large number of pots in the first level though his near starting stack may not reflect it at first glance. He dropped over 15,000 in the first half of Level one, but back they came in a couple of hands in a row, the first blind on blind vs. "onlymany" who led 500 on a flop. Veldhuis made the call, and again to a second lead of 1,250 on the turn. The river brought the innocuous seeming ; "onlymany" check-called a bet of 3,000 from Veldhuis and mucked seeing his .
Another rivered two pair came along seconds later, as a three-way hand vs. Pascal "Päffchen" Hartmann (big blind) and "ja.sam.gale" (under the gun plus one) saw Veldhuis check back the button on a flop of . Hartmann checked the turn, "ja.sam.gale" bet 2,000, and Veldhuis alone called. On the river, "ja.sam.gale" bet out 8,000, called quickly by Veldhuis with ; his opponent's went into the muck.
Recent entry Andrey "Anjeyyy" Novak is on the same table, with over 115,000 at the first break.
