Tavish Margers wins third RGPS ring in Event #2: $200 Opener ($2,478)

Event 02 $200 Series Opener Ring Event Winner Tavish Margers

At 1:00 of the first day of the series out here at Jamul Casino in San Diego, California, the first open event of the series kicked off. All players, whatever age they were, came out to play and claim one of the series newest rings, complete with the rocket ship on the face of it.

A total of 64 entrants came out to play, besting the guarantee set on the prize pool and $10,240 to be divided up between eight players.

It was the last stop that Tavish Margers pulled off the impressive feat of winning two RunGood rings in a single day. He now has added a hat trick to his RunGood resume, winning his third ring out here at Jamul Casino. His final table included such regulars of the stop like Mark Feinberg and Thomas Woodward.

Action was picked up on the river in a pot with Robert Fortuno in the small blind and another player in early position.

With 17,000 in the center and a board reading 9♥6♥2♠9♣6♠ and Fortuno checked over to the early position player who bet 13,000, which Fortuno called.

The early position player turned over K♥J♥ for king-high and Fortuno spent a couple of seconds looking at the board to make sure his A♣J♦ was good for the pot.

Table mate Rip Fritzer tapped the table and whispered "good call," as Fortuno raked in the pot.

The RunGood Poker Series has lifted off and landed out here at Jamul Casino in San Diego for the second stop of the 2025 season. Kicking off the week’s festivities was the seniors event. Players from all around the San Diego area, aged 50 and older came to play and snag the first ring awarded this series.

A total of 108 entrants over the registration period saw the prize pool guarantee passed as $12,960 was gathered among those entrants.

It was nearly four years ago when Armando Mesina burst onto the Rungood poker scene with his main event win for the 2021 Jamul stop, collecting one of his best lifetime scores with $25,175. Now, he has proven himself in another format for his second lifetime ring in the seniors event. He began the series strong, even found himself a bag in the following day’s event, and will be looking to play the main event to become one of the few two-time champions.

George Kalfayan raised to 1,500 on the button and in the small blind, Paul Mendoza three-bet to 4,200 in the small blind which only saw Anthony Bland call in the big blind.

The flop rolled out 9♣4♣4♠ and Mendoza continued for 8,000, earning a look from Bland. Bland contemplated for a little bit longer, but eventually piped up.

"You got kings or something?" Bland asked as he tossed his hand into the muck.

Mendoza obliged with showing him K♣K♥, leaving Bland to tap the table as he mentioned he folded pocket jacks.
