Petar Kalev Leads 52 Surviving Players Into Day 4 of the PokerStars Players Championship

Nível 22 : Blinds 15,000/30,000, 30,000 ante
Petar Kalev
Petar Kalev

Day 3 of the PokerStars Players No-Limit Hold’em Championship has come to an end and Petar Kalev leads 52 players into Thursday’s Day 4. The surviving runners will return on Thursday at 12 p.m. local time for the penultimate day of this prestigious event.

The Bulgarian bagged the top stack of 3,360,000 and he is followed by Blake Bohn in second on the leaderboard with 2,800,000. Dylan Destefano ended the night in third with 2,665,000, while Platinum Pass winners Dominik Nitsche and Tom Parsons rounded out the top five with 2,360,000 and 2,265,000, respectfully.

Kalev has the chip lead after a late clash with a charging Fedor Holz, who looked as though he may emerge as the chip leader in the late levels. However, an ill-timed shove proved beneficial when Kalev made an unlikely flush to cut Holz’s stack in half. After a late charge to end the night, Kalev stood tall with the biggest bag.

Day 3 Action

The third of five days saw 255 players return for a shot at making it through a money bubble that paid the top 175 players a min-cash of $35,100. It took a little over three hours to reach the bubble, and then over two hours in hand-for-hand play, but it was Mauricio Ferreira Pais that busted out to earn the rest of the room their payday.

Among the big stories was Glen Craigen, a Canadian road construction worker that won his Platinum Pass in a freeroll. Craigen ran all the way to 111th to take home $46,500 and the story of a lifetime.

Another player on the ride of his life was Tom Parsons, who waited patiently for his opportunity after winning a Platinum Pass at Lex Live 2 in March of 2019. Parsons was down to his last few big blinds on the bubble, but he spun it up and and went on a late run to finish with 2,265,000. According to Hendon Mob, Parsons had just $1,406 in lifetime earnings before this event.

Parsons is joined by Jerome Moreau on a list of dreamers that earned their way to The Bahamas by securing a Platinum Pass. Moreau is a dealer on the European Poker Tour, and he’s put his opportunity to good use. His big moment of the day was when he correctly called a bluff from Nicolas Betbese to take a big pot with a pair of eights. He went on to add more chips at the end of the night with the elimination of Kenny Hallaert. Moreau will return with 1,205,000 and a chance to live his dream from a different seat at the table.

Lococo ran to 89th for $53,400, and he was knocked out by Bohn’s Big Slick—a hand that put Bohn above 1.5 million chips on his way to a bag of 2,800,000.

Bohn, a Minnesota-native, is a regular at the WSOP and on mid-major tours throughout the United States. According to Hendon Mob, he has just over $3.5 million in lifetime earnings, including a recent win at Winter Poker Classic on the Mid-States Poker Tour. Bohn’s best live cash is just under $290,000, and he can beat that with an 11th place finish.

Blake Bohn

Sam Grafton also survived to see Day 4, thanks in part to a double knockout of Sammy Lafleur and Niklas Warlich. This is Grafton’s second cash of the series after a run to 52nd in the PCA Main Event, and the PokerStars Ambassador will return with 1,590,000 for the opportunity to add to his near $13 million in lifetime earnings. Grafton will be joined on Day 4 by other notable players Nadya Magnus, Chris Moorman, Fedor Holz, Sean Winter, Daniel Dvoress, and Chance Kornuth.

Players will return on Thursday in Level 23 with blinds at 20,000/40,000 with a 40,000 ante. Each of the 52 returning players is guaranteed at least $70,000, while the winner is slated to take home the top prize of $4,053,200.

Holz Gets Lucky...Then He Doesn't

Nível 22 : Blinds 15,000/30,000, 30,000 ante
Fedro Holz
Fedro Holz

David Shallow jammed from the button for 350,000 and Fedor Holz called from the big blind.

David Shallow: {k-Clubs}{j-Hearts}
Fedor Holz: {q-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}

Shallow was still ahead after the {5-Clubs}{4-Spades}{3-Spades} flop and {j-Spades} turn. However, Holz made two pair on the {q-Hearts} river to send Shallow to the rail.

The next hand, Petar Kalev opened to 60,000 from the button before Holz three-bet to 230,000 from the small blind. Kalev then jammed in his 1,550,000 stack and was snap-called.

Petar Kalev: {a-Hearts}{3-Hearts}
Fedor Holz: {a-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}

Kalev four-bet jam was mistimed and he was drawing to three immediate outs until he picked up a flush draw on the {a-Spades}{j-Hearts}{9-Hearts} flop. Kalev then leapfrogged Holz as he made two pair on the {3-Clubs} turn. The {5-Hearts} completed the board and Kalev doubled up in dramatic fashion.

Moreau Takes Out Hallaert

Kenny Hallaert - Jerome Moreau
Kenny Hallaert - Jerome Moreau

Kenny Hallaert raised to 50,000 from early position and was called by Jerome Moreau to his left. Nicolas Betbese also made the call from the cutoff leaving the hand three-way to the flop.

Hallaert continued for 60,000 on the {4-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{3-Clubs} flop, with Moreau calling and Betbese laying his hand down.

The {q-Clubs} turn left Hallaert taking time to consider his next move, which was an all-in for 297,000. Moreau called immediately and the hands were revealed.

Kenny Hallaert: {10-Clubs}{10-Hearts}
Jerome Moreau: {a-Clubs}{a-Diamonds}

Hallaert was well behind with just one card to come. The {9-Spades} river was no help, ending Hallaert’s run while boosting Moreau’s stack before the break.

Renato Minicuci opened to 50,000 from middle position and Martin Zamani called in the cutoff, while Rayan Chamas also came along from the big blind.

Minicuci continued for 100,000 on the {a-Spades}{j-Clubs}{7-Spades} flop and Zamani raised all in for around 500,000. Chamas folded and Minicuci snap-called with a bigger stack.

Martin Zamani: {a-Clubs}{7-Clubs}
Renato Minicuci: {a-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}

Zamani was on the wrong end of a sickening cooler as both players had flopped two pair. The board finished out {9-Hearts}{9-Clubs} and Zamani hit the rail.

Michel Dattani

PCA Main Event champion Michel Dattani moved all-in from under the gun for 210,000 and was at risk once Marcello Del Grosso called on the button.

Michel Dattani: {6-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}
Marcello Del Grosso: {9-Spades}{9-Hearts}

Dattani was behind from the start and the {k-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{8-Hearts} flop only strengthened Del Grosso’s advantage. The {9-Diamonds} turn gave Del Grosso quads, while the {8-Spades} river completed the runout.

Dattani could only shake his head and smile as a second memorable run in The Bahamas came to an end.

Moreau Makes Hero Call

Jerome Moreau
Jerome Moreau

Nicolas Betbese raised to 50,000 from early position and the action folded around to Platinum Pass winner Jerome Moreau in the big blind. Moreau made the call to see the {9-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{2-Spades} flop.

Moreau checked back to Betbese, who followed with a check to the {6-Diamonds} turn. Moreau checked again before calling a bet of 90,000 from Betbese. The {a-Clubs} river brought another check from Moreau and Betbese bet enough chips to put Moreau at risk. It did not take long for Moreau to make the call for his tournament life.

Jerome Moreau: {j-Clubs}{8-Clubs}
Nicolas Betbese: {q-Clubs}{j-Hearts}

Betbese was bluffing with queen-high, while Moreau correctly called with a pair of eights to earn the full double up.

Joni Petteri Jouhkimainen
Joni Petteri Jouhkimainen

Despite being down to just two big blinds earlier, Joni Jouhkimainen managed to spin his stack up to around 450,000 recently. However, after falling back to around 300,000, the Finn stuck them all in the middle from the hijack. Chance Kornuth woke up with a premium in the big blind and called it off.

Joni Jouhkimainen: {a-Clubs}{j-Clubs}
Chance Kornuth: {a-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}

The board ran out {8-Clubs}{5-Spades}{3-Spades}{4-Hearts}{6-Diamonds} and Kornuth's ace-high was the better of the two to eliminate Jouhkimainen.

"Fun ride," Jouhkimainen said as he got up from the table.

Peters was in great shape to start the hand, but the {k-Spades}{9-Clubs}{5-Clubs} flop gave Del Pino additional outs. The {6-Clubs} turn completed Del Pino’s flush, while the {4-Hearts} river completed the board and ended the night for Peters.

Franco Spitale: {a-Clubs}{a-Diamonds}
Fedor Holz: {9-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}

Spitale revealed pocket aces, but they were no good as Holz made trip sevens on the river. The Platinum Pass winner tapped the table and wished everyone good luck as his PSPC run came to an end.

Rayan Chamas

Picking up the action on the turn with the board reading {k-Spades}{5-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{7-Hearts}, Rayan Chamas and Paulina Loeliger were heads-up in the blinds. Chamas led out with a pot-sized bet of 175,000 and Loeliger jammed all in. Chamas gave it some thought before calling off his stack of 525,000.

Rayan Chamas: {k-Clubs}{3-Hearts}
Paulina Loeliger: {7-Spades}{5-Diamonds}

Chamas was disappointed to see Loeliger turn over two pair but he still had a few outs in the deck. The river was the {k-Diamonds} and Chamas improved to trip kings to find a massive double, leaving Loeliger with just 25,000 chips after the hand.
