Galfond Challenge Returns Feb. 2: Dan "Jungleman" Cates to Battle Phil "Mr. Falcons" Galfond

Nível 13 : Blinds 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante
Galfond Challenge
Galfond Challenge

The Galfond Challenge, a heads-up online pot-limit Omaha competition between Phil Galfond and an opponent, is back starting Feb. 2 with Dan "Jungleman" Cates stepping into the hot seat.

Play will begin at 8 a.m. PT and is expected to run until around noon each day Monday through Thursday until the agreed upon 7,500 hands are completed, according to Galfond's Monday afternoon tweet. Galfond told PokerNews the action will take place on WSOP.com. In previous Galfond Challenges, there's been a side bet attached to the cash game, but the former Full Tilt Poker crusher said he isn't sure yet if a side bet will be added to this one.

Each session, and every hand, is expected to be live-streamed on Galfond's YouTube channel, but the PLO pro said there won't be any commentary. As is customary in the Galfond Challenge, the competitors will play two tables at a time of PLO at $100/$200 stakes.

Haxton Continues Heater With 2023 PCA $100K Super High Roller Victory

Nível 13 : Blinds 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante
Isaac Haxton
Isaac Haxton

There was another great High Roller victory for Isaac Haxton in the PCA $100,000 Super High Roller, winning over $1,000,000 after a three-way chop.

The American made an ICM deal with Seth Davies and Adrian Mateos, and came out on top as the trio played it out to decide the victor.

This result came less than a week after another High Roller victory in Las Vegas, with Haxton calling it a fantastic start to the year.

"I don't think I've ever won two tournaments in a row before, and these are pretty good ones to do it in," Haxton told PokerNews in a winner's interview. "So yeah, I'm feeling great. This is a fantastic start to the year."

Lococo Lascerated by Trips of Platinum Pass Winner

Alejandro Lococo
Alejandro Lococo

Alejandro Lococo was out of position in a heads-up pot against Platinum Pass winner Max Menzel with the board reading {j-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}{8-Spades}.

With around 30,000 already in the middle, Lococo bet 25,000 before Menzel raised to 64,000. The PokerStars Ambassador gave it some thought and called.

Lococo checked on the {10-Clubs} river and Menzel checked back. Lococo tabled {7-Spades}{7-Hearts} for a pair of sevens, but it was no good against the trips of Menzel holding {9-Clubs}{8-Clubs}.

Yankov Among the Chip Leaders

Nível 12 : Blinds 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante

On a heads-up flop of {q-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}, Krasimir Yankov checked to Turbo Nguyen who made it 12,000 to go. Yankov then check-raised to 47,000 and Nguyen went into a brief tank. He then shook his head and mucked the {q-Hearts} face-up.

Yankov flashed one card and Nguyen inquired "queen-ten?", which was indeed confirmed as Yankov flashed the {q-Spades}{10-Clubs} for the top two pair. "You owe me one," the Bulgarian told his opponent before buying off all the T-500 denominations for the chip race.

Top 5 Poker Movies You Must Watch

Nível 12 : Blinds 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante

Over the past century, poker has permeated pop culture, especially when it comes to motion pictures. Long before the “Poker Boom”, and even before the World Series of Poker (WSOP) was a thing, poker had already made its big screen debut.

Over the decades, poker fans have been treated to a plethora of poker movies, some good and others not so much. Some well-received poker films include the western comedy Maverick (1994), Survivor host Jeff Probst’s debut film Finder’s Fee (2001), the improv-inspired The Grand (2007), indie comedy darling Hitting the Nuts (2010), and the high-profile Hollywood flick Molly’s Game (2017).

All of those are among the best poker movies of all time, and if this article was “Top 10” instead of “Top 5 Poker Movies,” chances are they’d make the final list. However, the PokerNews crew got together, along with input from social media, to determine the top five must-watch poker movies of all time.
