In two hours from now at 3 p.m. local time, Day 1 of the inaugural PokerStars Festival London £2,200 High Roller gets underway. After the first ever PokerStars Festival took place in New Jersey late last year, the new series after the rebranding of the tour is heading to European soil for the first time. The buy-ins during the eight-day long festival start as low as £165 and there are even freebuy satellites for the Main Event as well.
Home to the former UK & Ireland Poker Tour, the iconic Hippodrome Casino in the center of London is expected to attract many players from the near and far. One of the highlights of the festival is the £2,200 High Roller event and all participants in the eight-handed tournament will receive 30,000 in chips. A single re-entry is allowed and the registration will close after the end of level six and following 75-minute dinner break at approximately 8.30 p.m. local time.
Day 1 will feature up to 13 levels of 40 minutes each and the tournament is scheduled to play down to a winner tomorrow, approximately the top 20 percent of the field will take home a portion of the prize pool. As of Wednesday, January 25th, the £990 Main Event kicks off as well and the PokerStars live reporting team will be there to provide updates until a winner is crowned.

The previous tournament has been moved out of the area to make room for the High Rollers and the first players arrived to get their seats. Manual seating was done and the tournament kicked off soon after.
Among those to have taken their seats are the two Team PokerStars Pros Aditya Agarwal and Jake Cody, the latter sits right next to Orpen Kisacikoglu. Other familiar faces on the poker circuit are Yehoram Houri and Julien Sitbon.

Facing a raise to 275 by the player on the button, Irina Nikolaidi three-bet to 900 out of the big blind. The button called and Nikolaidi continued for 900 on the flop. The button called before the turn then went check, check.
Nikolaidi played with the chips for a few moments and eventually bet the river for 2,550. The button tossed in three T-1,000 chips for the call and mucked once Nikolaidi showed him for aces and queens.

Paul Newey was involved in some early action. Newey was in the small blind and check-called a bet of 300 on a flop of from the player on the button but opted to check fold on the turn.
Newey was on the button next hand and opened for 250. A raise to 800 from Victor Victorovich Ilyukhin in the small blind saw Newey call to get it heads up.
The flop was with both players checking. The turn card was the and a bet of 1,000 was met with a quick fold from Newey.

Niall Farrell had recently sat down and the Scotsman was involved in a limped pot out of the big blind. On the turn he tossed in a T-500 chip and announced a bet of 200, his sole opponent called. The duo then checked the river and Farrell announced a deuce before flashing .
"You got it," his opponent replied and briefly showed for the busted nut flush draw before sending his cards into the muck. Fellow Scotsman Ludovic Geilich has also made the trip to London, but hasn't shown up just yet.
