Steve O'Dwyer has won the $50,000 High Roller at the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure 2018. The first-place prize in the 46-entry field netted him $769,500 after beating start-of-day chipleader Byron Kaverman heads up. This ninth biggest score of his career brings O'Dwyer to a massive $21,121,735 in lifetime earnings, which catapults him from 13th to 10th place on the all-time money list surpassing Bryn Kenney, Brian Rast, and Sam Trickett, and just under a million away from Phil Hellmuth.

6Orpen KisacikogluTurkey$158,420

The $50,000 Super High Roller started off with one extreme short stack, which dictated play a bit. Orpen Kisacikoglu was looking for a spot to get it in with his mere 7 big blinds, but until he did, the middle stacks couldn't do much. It was all chipleader Kaverman in the first level as he could easily lean on everyone at the table without too many repercussions.

Eventually, Kisacikoglu did get it in and the six-three suited he choose to make his move with, had a remarkable lot of equity against the jack-deuce Byron Kaverman showed up with. Still, the roughly 45 percent chance of winning didn't materialize for him this time as the jack-high of Kaverman held strong throughout the flop, turn, and river.

With Kisacikoglu out of the way, play was a bit more freely for the remaining players. Benjamin Pollak eventually was the next to go getting it in as a massive favorite with ace-queen against Kaverman's ace-six. A six on the river, however, ruined it all for Pollak who had to settle for 5th place, good for $203,680. After an amazing 2017 where he collected $4,979,065 in tournament cashes, not too bad a start to 2018 either.

It didn't take long for the next player to hit the rail. Erik Seidel, who bubbled the $100,000 earlier this week, got it in with ace-four against the ace-five of O'Dwyer and he saw his opponent hit a five on the flop to make things worse. Seidel didn't recover on the turn or river and exited in 4th place for $260,260.

While Kaverman had started with the chip lead and knocked out two of the three players that were first to go, it was anything but a run course at that point. O'Dwyer, never to be underestimated, was a force at the table and soon took over the chip lead from Kaverman in a hand he flopped a set in while Kaverman flopped a flush draw.

Jean-Noel Thorel had played his patented unconventional style which had really worked well for him till he had to bow out in third place losing jack-seven to king-ten.

Heads Up

Kaverman and O'Dwyer, two longtime high roller regulars both with millions in winnings, didn't discuss a deal. The fight heads-up was pure and would soon enough be decided in O'Dwyer's favor.

O'Dwyer started with a chip disadvantage to Kaverman but quickly turned things around as a string of good cards and boards helped him take a 3-to-1 lead. O'Dwyer won a big hand where he bluffed Kaverman off top pair. Kaverman had no time bank cards left in that hand, and saw his time run out when he was facing the all-in decision. O'Dwyer mentioned he might have checked behind his six-high in other situations but knew Kaverman had no time bank cards left and banked on the possibility of Kaverman's time running out.

It was over soon after. O'Dwyer got it in with jack-ten against the queen-nine of Kaverman and hit a jack on the flop to end it all.

O'Dwyer won this very event in 2016 and the $100,000 Super High Roller in 2015; one might say he runs well on Paradise Island. This marks the 18th win for O'Dwyer in his 11-year live tournament career. Another trophy on his mantle, and a lot more opportunities to add even more this week with the Main Event on to Day 2 tomorrow, two $25,000 buy-in events and a $10,000 single-day high roller still on the schedule.

Hand 131: Byron Kaverman shoved preflop on the button for his last 640,000 with the {q-Clubs}{9-Clubs} and Steve O'Dwyer put him at risk, calling with the {j-Hearts}{10-Spades}.

O'Dwyer quickly took the lead spiking a jack on the {2-Diamonds}{j-Spades}{4-Hearts} flop and Kaverman failed to find any help on the {5-Hearts}{k-Diamonds} runout, falling in second place for a cool $531,860.

O'Dwyer captures yet another High Roller title and banks $769,500.

Hand 106: Jean-Noel Thorel moved in from the small blind with {J-Clubs}{7-Spades} and big blind Byron Kaverman didn't have much of a headache with {K-Spades}{10-Clubs} and called.

The flop of {J-Spades}{Q-Hearts}{8-Diamonds} had something for both as Thorel paired up while Kaverman hit an open-ended.

The {9-Clubs} on the turn made Kaverman's hand and Thorel said his goodbyes as he had no chance of winning anymore.

"Salut!" he said, "Good luck!"

"It sure was a battle, it was fun," Kaverman said while shaking hands with the French entrepreneur.

The {7-Clubs} on the river completed the board and Thorel was heading for the payout. His third place prize netted him $339,480.

A small break now while the stage is prepared for the heads-up battle between Byron Kaverman and Steve O'Dwyer. They're guaranteed $531,860 at this point with $769,500 up top.

Erik Seidel Eliminated in 4th Place ($260,260)

Hand 52: Action folded to Erik Seidel in the small blind and he moved in for just under 400,000 with {K-Clubs}{4-Hearts}. Big blind Steve O'Dwyer didn't need too much time calling with {K-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}.

The flop came {5-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts} which left Seidel drawing very thin.

Commentator Lex Veldhuis mentioned a jack would be the best card Seidel could hope for to appear on the turn and he got just that with the {J-Spades}.

O'Dwyer still had an 82 percent chance of winning but a chop was now a possibility.

Unfortunately for Seidel, however, the {Q-Diamonds} on the river wasn't one of the cards he was looking for.

After bubbling the $100,000 event earlier this week, Seidel now out in 4th place for $260,260. The remaining 3 players are guaranteed $339,480 from here on out.

Hand 43: The action folded to Byron Kaverman in the small blind and he moved all in with {A-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}. The pressure was on Benjamin Pollak in the big blind and he didn't have much of a decision, he called quickly with the {A-Hearts}{Q-Spades}.

The flop came {J-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{2-Spades}, which did nothing. The {K-Spades} on the turn didn't either but the {6-Spades} on the river, however, meant it was all over for Pollak.

The Frenchman, who had an amazing 2017 where he earned $4,979,065 to get to $7,879,762 in tournament earnings lifetime, finished in 5th place for $203,680. The remaining 4 players are guaranteed $260,260 from here on out.

A $50,000 High Roller Champion Will Be Crowned Today

Byron Kaverman looking for another win on his resume

All the money is up for grabs this afternoon when the final six players return to battle it out for PokerStars Caribbean Adventure High Roller glory. The Atlantis Resort on Paradise Island will host the final table today when the action kicks off at 3 PM.

American pro, Byron Kaverman boasts the chip lead over France’s Jean-Noel Thorel, Ireland’s Steve O’Dwyer, Frenchman Benjamin Pollak, American poker legend Erik Seidel, and Orpen Kisacikoglu from Turkey.

4Jean-Noel ThorelFrance1,120,000
5Byron KavermanUnited States1,509,000
6Orpen KisacikogluTurkey158,000

None of these men need any introduction. All have found success on the felt and have the necessary skills to take down this title.

Kaverman has amassed over $11.5M in career live-recorded tournament earnings and has several wins in High Roller formats. If the Ohio native is able to go wire-to-wire this would be the second largest cash of his career.

Thorel comes into play today looking for his first career win according to his HendonMob page. The oldest player at the table has finished runner-up six times including three previous second place finished in European Poker Tour High Rollers. A win would also push Thorel over $3.0M in tournament earnings.

Only topped by Seidel when it comes to total earnings at the table, O’Dwyer will be one to watch this afternoon. O’Dwyer has over $20.M in earnings and has won just about every High Roller event available including a victory in this very event just two years ago, on this exact date.

Though he had already made a name for himself, Pollak made a big splash on the poker scene last summer in Vegas when he made the final table of the World Series of Poker Main Event. Pollak ended up finishing third for $3.5M but since then has made over $1.4M on top.

The biggest name at the table has to be Seidel. If poker royalty was a thing, Seidel would be it. Sitting number two on the all-time money list, Seidel has piled up over $33.2M. If Seidel is able to overcome the rest of the table, this will be the 30th time he has claimed victory.

Last, but certainly not least, Kisacikoglu comes into play as the short stack and has some work to do. Sitting number one on Turkey’s all-time money list, Kisacikoglu has a win under his belt taking down a $10,000 High Roller at the PokerStars Championship Panama in 2017. Kisacikoglu has just under $1 million in career live-recorded earnings and will best his previous top-cash with a fourth place or better.

High Roller final table

Play will kick off live at 3 PM with a cards-up live-stream on a 30-minute delay beginning at 3:30 PM. Play will continue this afternoon until a winner is crowned and with only 30-minute levels, that may happen rather quickly.

Here is what the players are fighting for:
