Vinicius Lima Wins Poker Night in America at Golden Nugget for $56,366

Nível 27 : 25,000/50,000, 5,000 ante

After a tough back-and-forth heads-up battle, Vinicius Lima emerged over Mike Comisso as the winner of Poker Night in America at Golden Nugget, topping a field of 136 runners for $56,366.

Just five players made the final day of the tournament, which was filmed for television and streamed on a delay on Twitch. The rules changed up a bit for the final table to make it more viewer-friendly, with a timer in play on every decision that counted down from 60 seconds. Players got two time extensions, good for another 60 seconds apiece.

The shortest stack to begin the day belonged to Dimitry Agrachov, and he went bust at the hands of Lima during Level 23 (10,000/20,000/3,000) after the latter bluffed off about a third of his chips to Chan Pelton. Agrachov shoved 14 big blinds over a button open from Comisso but Lima woke up with the {a-Clubs}{10-Diamonds} in the big blind and held against the {a-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}.

Then it was Pelton's turn to bluff off a pile, and after David Morton picked him off, Pelton three-bet a raise from Lima and used both of his extensions before calling a four-bet shove of 650,000 effective at 12,000/24,000/4,000. Lima had kings and held up against the {a-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} on a {q-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{4-Spades} board.

Morton turned up the aggression a bit to stay afloat for awhile three-handed but just kept getting ground back down his more aggressive opponents. Lima finally finished him off to go into heads-up play almost dead even with Comisso.

Comisso took the initial advantage and nearly had the tournament won when he got Lima in at risk with the {a-Spades}{k-Clubs} needing to improve against the {10-Diamonds}{10-Clubs} of Comisso. An ace on the flop kept Lima's pulse going. Comisso moved back into a 3-1 lead after getting three streets of value with top pair, but Lima wouldn't go away quietly and kept battling back.

One big highlight of the match came in Level 27 (25,000/50,000/5,000), when a board of {6-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{4-Spades}{k-Spades} sat between the two players on fourth street. Comisso check-called approximately 150,000 and then checked the {j-Clubs} river. Lima quickly fired 575,000. Comisso went deep into the tank, and after using a time extension, he called with the {q-Hearts}{3-Hearts} and it was good against the {5-Clubs}{3-Clubs}.

It didn't prove to be enough, as Lima was back in front just a few hands later in what would be the final lead change of the match. Down to 21 big blinds, Comisso tried three-bet shoving over min-raise with the {k-Hearts}{9-Clubs} but Lima called him with the {k-Diamonds}{q-Spades}. A board of {7-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{a-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}{a-Clubs} later, and Lima had his win.

Vinicius Lima opened on the button for 100,000, and Mike Comisso shoved all in from the big blind. Lima asked for a count and was quoted 1,050,000. He dropped in a stack of chips.

Comisso: {k-Hearts}{9-Clubs}
Lima: {k-Diamonds}{q-Spades}

Lima was in a dominating spot, and his rail began shouting for no nines. A {7-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{a-Hearts} flop delivered that, and the {j-Diamonds} turn left Comisso in need of a nine to keep the tournament going. The {a-Clubs} river didn't so it.

"Good job," Comisso said as they shook hands.

Lima: {a-Spades}{7-Clubs}
Morton: {k-Spades}{7-Spades}

The board ran out {q-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{5-Hearts}, setting up a heads-up match between Lima and Mike Comisso with both players about even.

Morton's tournament ended in third, the same finishing position he had in Choctaw for Poker Night in America.

Vinicius Lima opened to 52,000 in the cutoff and Chan Pelton made it 225,000 in the small blind. Lima pushed all in for 650,000 or so effective, and Pelton tanked down until he had to use his time extension. After another minute, he tossed in his other extension. He asked Lima if he wanted action. No response, and finally Pelton decided to call.

Pelton: {a-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}
Lima: {k-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}

Pelton had come from behind with three outs earlier, but this time he bricked out on the {q-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{4-Spades} board.

Welcome to Day 3 of Poker Night in America at Golden Nugget

Poker Night in America
Poker Night in America

The past four days have seen 136 runners at Poker Night in America at Golden Nugget whittled down to just five. They are Mike Comisso (1,263,000), Vinicius Lima (1,198,000), Chan Pelton (1,050,000), David Morton (292,000), and Dimitry Agrachov (282,000), and today will see one of them claim the tournament and $56,366 in prize money.

Out of the long grind of this tournament, Day 3 presents the most interesting scenario for the players. Unlike the other days, in which standard tournament poker was being played, Day 3 is all about the televised final table. That means a shot clock in PNIA events, and it will be a 60-second clock on every decision. Each player will receive a pair of time extensions as well, which can be used at any point in the final table, including on the same hand.

Players are currently fulfilling TV media obligations, and cards are scheduled to fly some time between 12:45 p.m and 1 p.m. local time here in downtown Las Vegas.
