Local Player Rachid Am Leads 2016 Winamax SIXMIX Main Event After Day 2
After almost 12 hours of play, Day 2 of the 2016 Winamax SISMIX Main Event is in the books. Only one local player remains, but he also holds the chip lead. That is Rachid Am with 2,604,000 in chips.
Also near the top of the pack are Belgium's Cheng-Wei Yin in second place with 1,605,000, France's Thomas Cazayous with 1,514,000, and Spain's Pablo Redrado with 1,302,000 chips.
Day 2 began with 195 players that had survived from the 901 entrants that played in the three opening flights. By the time the first break rolled along, we were edging in on the bubble with 136 players remaining and 113 players planned to make the money. Normally, this is when things would slow down as the bubble approaches, but things sped up in this one, including the final bubble hand which witnessed four players all in for their tournament lives. Three of the four were eliminated, with David Haziza, Bernard Guigon, and Ali Chbihi all hitting the rail.
The three players split the first two payout spots, but due to Guigon and Chbihi both wearing Winamax badges when they were eliminated on the bubble, they both were awarded with a free ticket to next year's Winamax SISMIX Main Event.
Play continued to be fast and furious until an extended dinner break took place. During the opening days, players were given 90 minutes to relax and eat, however, the 33 remaining at this point were given 135 minutes due to the Champions League final playing out. The break was then extended twice due to extra time and penalty kicks in the game.
Most of Team Winamax was eliminated from the tournament, however, two members of this exclusive club still remained in contention after Day 2 with Bruno Lopes standing strong in seventh place with 859,000 and Gaëlle Baumann in 20th with 438,000.
The remaining 22 players will have a little more time to rest up, as play will resume on Sunday at 1 p.m. local time instead of noon as has been the case every other day. When action resumes, blinds will be 10,000/20,000 with an ante of 3,000, giving players on average of approximately 41 big blinds.
Returning players are guaranteed a 36,000 MAD (€3,318) payout, but those remaining all have their eyes on the top prize of 850,000 MAD (€78,341).
