Karim Gets Revenge on Urrea

Nível 30 : Blinds 60,000/120,000, 120,000 ante
Borja Urrea
Borja Urrea

Michel Karim raised to 240,000 from early position. Borja Urrea then three-bet jammed for 1,860,000 in the cutoff. Karim asked for a count, calling after a minute of thought.

Borja Urrea: A8 All in
Michel Karim: 66

The 710K10 turn brought a counterfeit threat for Karim's sixes, but the 10 river made him a full house to secure the pot and eliminate Urrea.

Jones Check Raises Turn

Nível 30 : Blinds 60,000/120,000, 120,000 ante

Osman Mustanoglu opened to 240,000 from the cutoff. Mitchell Jones defended the big blind.

He check-called a bet of 300,000 on the flop of J8K. He checked once more on the 3 turn. Mustanoglu sized up to 500,000. Jones then check-raised to around 1,500,000.

Mustanoglu took a moment before folding. Jones tabled K10 for top pair and a flush draw.

Ari Engel was down to less than ten big blinds, which he shipped in from the hijack. Osman Mustanoglu called in the small blind, tabling the cards.

Ari Engel: A4 All in
Osman Mustanoglu: A10

The 102K66 runout could not bail out Engel, who departed shortly after dinner.

Urrea Hangs On

Nível 30 : Blinds 60,000/120,000, 120,000 ante

Michel Karim had opened from the cutoff when Borja Urrea moved his last 720,000 in the middle from the big blind. Karim called with the covering stack, revealing the cards.

Borja Urrea: A10 All in
Michel Karim: K10

Karim flopped a flush draw on 967, but the 3 turn and Q river did not bring it in.

"It's never easy," Urrea stated as he raked in his double-up.

Flashback: Tero Laurila Crowned Champion in Record-Breaking Irish Open Main Event

Last year, a massive field of 3,233 entries assembled at the Royal Dublin Society for the 2024 Irish Open €1,150 Main Event. The tournament set a new record for the Irish Open and absolutely smashing the guaranteed prize pool of €1,000,000 by creating a prize pool of €3,152,175.

However, as with any other tournament, there could only be one person left standing at the end. Over four long days of poker action, it was Day 3 chipleader Tero Laurila who won the iconic Irish Open trophy and took home €292,685 after a three-way deal.

Laurila defeated Ireland’s Hiep Ninh after a relatively short heads up battle, as the blinds had been reduced from 60 to 20 minutes after the deal. Ninh, who plays almost exclusively in Dublin, took home the larger sum of €335,636 for his efforts due to having a massive chip lead when the deal was made. The final person involved in the deal was the 21-year-old Mark Johnston, who is just dipping his toes in the waters of professional poker and walked away with €232,685 for third place.
