Brett Angell's been a busy boy this week as he busted out the UKIPT Champion of Champions, but not before having won the UKIPT Grand Final last night for £115,083. Just now we spotted Angell in the Main Event and he was caught winning a decent pot off Dutchman Govert Metaal.
The board read when Angell checked to Metaal who bet 575 and the UKIPT champ check-raised to 1,925. Metaal gave it some thought before ultimately making the call.
On the river the popped up and Angell bet 3,725, which was quickly called by Metaal who mucked when he was shown .
Angell's off to a great start here early on Day 1b as he's looking to build on his momentum here in London.
We arrived in time to see Jennifer Shahade and an opponent looking down at a completed board of . With 1,800 already in the middle, Shahade's opponent fired out a river bet of 1,525.
Shahade sat motionless, pondering her action for approximately 30 seconds. When she finally moved, she reached for chips and moved forward a raise to 4,000. This movement immediately made her opponent shift in his seat.
"Ace-four?" he inquired, shrugging.
After a brief moment, he flung out a call. Shahade tabled for a full house of fours full of deuces, prompting a muck from her opponent. With this victory, Shahade is off to a solid start in level 1 with about 37,000 in chips.
Steven Watts is already up to 65,000 after winning a big pot against Sebastiano Giudice. Watts had three-bet out of the blinds against Giudice's button raise with and managed to turn a straight, winning a huge number of chips and crippling Giudice in the process.
Seat 7 on Paul Newey’s table is playing every hand so far. Newey check-called a bet on a flop of but folded to a bet when the turn produced the . He then offered to show one card and the picked card was the . “Both good.” Seat 7 said, adding that he played four out of five hands seriously and one will be a bluff.
He was involved in the next hand where they got to a turn with the board reading whereupon he over bet the pot to the tune of 1,500 and took it down. “Serious hand. Serious business. Very serious player today. I don’t lie ever.”
On the next hand he was under the gun and announced, “Limp. Very cheap prices in London today. Christmas prices.” That encouraged a number of players, including Newey on the button, to throw in the 100 to see a cheap flop of . A 200 bet from Seat 7 saw Newey bump it up to 650 and scoop the chips.
We picked up the action on a flop when, after two checks, a player bet 500 and Robbie Schiffbauer called from the button. The small blind called as well after which the big blind check-raised to 2,400. The initial bettor folded and Schiffbauer was the only one to call.
On the turn the hit and the big blind checked to Schiffbauer who casually bet 4,000. The big blind folded showed after which Schiffbauer quietly raked in the pot without showing his hand.
We recently reported a hand where Steven Watts soared to over double starting stack thanks to a confrontation with Sebastiano Giudice. Upon returning to the tournament floor, we saw Giudice standing up from the table and making his way toward the exit. Watts collected the remainder of the Italian's chips, bringing his stack up to around 72,000.
