£4,250 Main Event
Dia 1b Iniciado
Welcome back to the second start day of second stop on the second decade of the European Poker Tour. Yesterday saw Anatoly Filatov finish on top with 173,900 leading a field of 123 survivors out of an initial 224 who entered. Today the field is expected to be even bigger since both the UKIPT Main Event and the £2,000 UKIPT High Roller both concluded last night.
Preparations have already begun in earnest with both the main tournament area and the potential second tournament room (tournament room B) potentially in use today. We're expecting a cavalcade of PokerStars Team Pros, London-based high rollers and a smörgåsbord of online players from both Scandinavia and the rest of Europe as well.
The plan for today will be eight 75-minute levels once more with 20-minute breaks every two levels, a 75-minute break after level six with action scheduled to finish at around midnight tonight. Then, the remaining players of today will team up with those who made it through Day 1a to form a team of 'super-powered' players who fight crime and injustice for a living.* Actually, those who have made it through the Day 1s will come back tomorrow for Day 2 as this tournament continues.
*Not actually true, there is currently no poker version of the Avengers Initiative.

While the room is still half empty waiting for players to take their seats we've spotted these players who all came on time and ready for action.

Paul Newey has sat down early and is certainly in a good mood. Before play began he let his followers on Twitter know: “Good 1st day in London, 36k up cash poker & 12k up casino slots.”
Newey has decided to re-invest £4,250 of that hard earned money in this Main Event. We’ll keep an eye on him to see if the run-good continues.

At the moment, there are 37 tables in the main tournament room. If these tables are all in use then the tournament directors will open up the secondary tournament room which is up a small flight of stairs (and has its' own bar - don't worry folks!) back above the entrance. The tournament staff aren't completely sure if this room will be needed yet as it very much depends on how big the inevitable rush of late arrivals is.
With the rain teeming down outside players are shrugging off their wet jackets, enquiring about the free Wi-Fi password and even getting an early massage from “Thee Best Hands.” in preparation for a long and hopefully fruitful tournament. What better way to spend the day than in the elegant Grand Connaught Rooms playing Poker. The gentle clack of poker chips is just audible beneath the comments on the rain and the price of food on London.
Before the end of the first level 300 players have registered, already surpassing yesterday’s 224 entrants.
