Simon Ravnsbæk opened under the gun to 5,600, and Olivier Busquet on the button made it 16,000 to go. Both blinds folded, Ravnsbæk made the call.
Ravnsbæk continued to check call 18,000 on , and 42,000 on the -turn. The river came the and Ravnsbæk checked once more. Busquet thought for a little bit, before checking behind.
"I have a jack" Busquet said as he showed his . Ravnsbæk mucked.
"Oh man! Oh man!" laughed neighbor Doug Polk while eating a wrap. "Ow, there was a flush out there" he said with a more serious voice.
Soon the subject of the conversation switched to the age of some players, with some young ones and older ones. "How old are you?" asked Polk. "I'll be 33 this week" answered Busquet. That's 12 years older than some at the table.
Jason Mo opened the action with a raise, and Jorryt van Hoof made the call in position with . Mustapha Kanit in the big blind came along as well, and the three of them got to work with.
Kanit checked to Mo, who continued for 13,000. Van Hoof made it 27,000, and Kanit shoved all in for about 120,000. Mo folded, but Van Hoof made the call.
Kanit had for the bigger flush draw, but didn't get there against Van Hoof's top pair and lower flush draw.
Daniel Negreanu check-raised all in on the board against Jean-Noel Thorel's bet of 75,000. Thorel called with the and Negreanu had the . The river completed the board with the , and Negreanu was off to reenter.
From under the gun, Govert Metaal limped in. Next to act was Ismail Erkenov, and he raised to 7,000. Scott Seiver called in the next seat, and then action folded back to Metaal. He reraised all in for 70,200. After a bit of thought, Erkenov called. Seiver folded.
Erkenov had the for two over cards to Metaal's . The flop, turn, and river ran out , and Metaal was eliminated.
The record for most unique entries in this event is 55, coming from Season 9 when Dan Smith won. That year there were 64 total entries after nine reentries.
Already this year there have been 50 unique entries and one reentry, putting things up to 51. With registration and reentry open until the start of Day 2, it looks like this year's event is a favorite to set a new record.
On a board, Dan Shak was all in for 94,400 from the small blind. The decision was on Govert Metaal in the cutoff. Metaal eventually tossed in a single chip to make the call, and Shak instantly showed for the flush. Metaal mucked, but his was shown anyway.
It's been a while since we've seen Mikael Thuritz on the felt, but he's playing here right now. Thuritz might not ring a bell for everyone, poker die hards sure do know the name. Thuritz has been around for over a decade, but still plays the biggest games. He plays as "ChaoRen160" on PokerStars, and "punting-peddler" on Full Tilt Poker, where he amassed hundreds of thousands of dollars in this year.
Also in the field is Talal Shakerchi again, who took the exact same seat next to John Juanda he just busted from.
A third player who just entered the room was Fabian Quoss. "Fabian Quoss! Fabian Quoss!" cheered Daniel Negreanu enthusiastically for some reason.
Talal Shakerchi just walked out of the tournament room, the first to do so today because of a lack of chips.
On a board, Shakerchi was seen bet out 25,200 from the small blind, with about 100,000 behind. John Juandaon the button moved him all in by pushing about 150,000 forward.
After quite some thinking, Shakerchi made the call by tossing in a single 100 chip. He had to commit the rest of his chips as well, and wouldn't get them back anytime soon as he was drawing dead. His had no way of improving against Juanda's .
The meaningless fell on the river, and Shakerchi made his way to the exit. He's able to buy back in till the start of Day 2, so we might just see one more appearance from the seasoned amateur.
