Yevhen Dzhura opened to 800 from middle position, and was called by Luka Bojovic in the cutoff. However, Natan Chauskin three-bet to 3,800 from the button. Kayhan Mokri in the small blind wasn't done yet, as he four-bet to 9,500. Dzhura and Bojovic quickly folded, but Chauskin called.
The dealer fanned a flop of A♠8♣7♥, and Mokri continued with a small bet of 2,000. Chauskin called, then both of them checked on the turn K♠.
On the river Q♣, Mokri bet to force Chauskin to go all in, but saw his opponent snap-call for a little bit more than 18,000.
Natan Chauskin: A♣A♥
Kayhan Mokri: K♥K♣
Mokri hit a set on the turn, but Chauskin already had the best set on the flop to double up.
On a board of 5♦10♥J♠2♥9♣ with already more than 100,000 chips in the pot, Niall Farrell moved all in for 42,800 from the big blind. According to a player at the table, he check-raised on the flop, bet big on the turn, and shoved on the river.
However, after he put all his chips in the middle, Sandor Hadnagy from under the gun... revealed his cards! He showed A♥10♣, but didn't make a decision yet. The floor was called, and Hadnagy was firmly warned that he wasn't allowed to do that at all. However, he could still make a decision, and eventually, he called.
Niall Farrell: J♦10♠
Sandor Hadnagy: A♥10♣
Hadnagy called with a pair, but Farrell had two pair to double up. "It is not allowed, but it should be, it would be more fun", laughed Farrell after the hand.
The floor said Hadnagy "should have received one or two rounds of penalty," but he didn't get it because he only had two blinds left. Thanks to this decision, he was lucky enough to double up on the next hand.
All tables in the main room of the Hilton Prague have been filled up, meaning that the overflow tables in the lobby started being used.
Play had already kicked off there when Peter Jorgne made a raise to 700 chips from the button and Francesco Gisolfi defended his big blind. Jorgne then continued for 600 on the 9♥K♠A♦ flop, leading to a quick check-fold from his opponent.
On another table, Renjun Yang checked from the small blind on a completed board of 6♥Q♠5♥2♠A♦. Gregoire Auzoux checked back in the big blind and Yang's 5♦4♦ won at showdown, while Auzoux claimed to have "a really big hand on the flop".
On yet another table, Raoul Kanme checked to Michele Nizzardelli on a board of 3♠A♣4♣6♠. With 4,000 chips already in the pot, Nizzardelli made a bet of 3,000 and Kanme called. Both players then checked down the Q♥ river, and Kanme was surprised when his K♣2♣, for just king-high, won him the pot.
Pavlos Xanthopoulos raised to 700 from the hijack and Luka Bojovic reraised to 2,400 from the cutoff. The action folded back to Xanthopoulos, who made the call.
Xanthopoulos then went on to check-call Bojovic's continuation-bet of 1,700 on the 3♦A♦6♣ flop, before ultimately check-folding to a 6,300 bet on the J♠ turn.
Also at this table are Natan Chauskin, Kayhan Mokri, Axel Hallay, Brois Angelov, and Aliaksei Boika, who were engaged in a conversation about who the best heads up poker players are.
The action was opened to 600 by Viktor Wessman who was then three bet by Samuel Fournier to 3,500, Wessman quickly made the call and the two went to the flop.
The flop came 4♦Q♠9♣ and Fournier continued for 2,500 and quickly got the call from Wessman.
The turn card brought the K♥ and again Fournier bet out to the tune of 6,000 with a quick call from his opponent. The river card was 3♥ and Fournier announced all in and was snapped called by Wessman.
The cards were turned over and Fournier saw the bad news. Wessman held 9♠9♦ for a flopped set of nines that busted Fournier's A♦A♠. Fournier hit the rail and Wessman got a nice early double.
In the final hand of the previous level, Wouter Beltz sat down with a fresh stack of 30,000 chips when he open-raised to 300 from the hijack. Thomas Haverstad then made it 1,100 to go from the cutoff, but Beltz four-bet to 3,700 once the action folded back to him.
Haverstad made the call and Beltz continued for 3,500 on the 7♥2♦2♠ flop. Haverstad called once more and the J♣ was turned.
Beltz sized up to 7,500 and Haverstad thought it over for a minute or so before settling on a fold, surrendering the pot to Beltz.
2022 EPT Prague runner-up Antoine Saout opened from under the gun, and was called by Philipp Yalmanian in the big blind.
Both of them checked on the 7♣4♦2♦. But after Yalmanian checked again on the turn J♦, Saout bet 300. Yalmanian quickly called.
The 10♦ landed on the river, and Yalmanian checked again. Saout checked back, and waited for Yalmanian to show his Q♣10♥ to reveal J♥9♥ and win the pot.
The chase for EPT Main Event Glory began yesterday at the 2023 PokerStars European Poker Tour Prague, with 131 players advancing from Day 1a to the tournament's second stage.
Leading the pack of survivors was Joao Mestre (359,000), who was also joined by Yulian Bogdanov (315,000) and Cheng Zhao (306,500) as the only other players to bag more than 200 big blinds.
The 412 entries have already contributed €2,808,150 to the prize pool. Of course, that figure will continue to swell as Day 1b is expected to have a bumper field filled with some of poker's biggest names.
Like yesterday, the action will kick off at 12 p.m. local time, with the action taking place at the Hilton Prague, which became a winter wonderland for last night's player's party.
Will there be a few sore heads this morning? Likely. But hopefully, any ailments will quickly subside as the next chapter of the €5,300 EPT Main Event unfolds.
