Welcome To Day 1a Of €1,100 Eureka Main Event

At Merit Royal Diamond Hotel Casino & Spa, the PokerStars European Poker Tour Cyprus' second day of competition is about to start with the beginning of the first Main Event: the $1,100 Eureka.

In this five-day event, players will have four flights to qualify for Day 2. And the two first ones are scheduled today, Thursday, October 12, with Day 1a starting at noon local time, and 1b at 7 p.m.

On Day 1a, players will receive 30,000 chips and try to increase their stacks on 40-minute levels, starting with Level 1 (100/100 with a 100 big blind ante). There will be a 20-minute break every three levels, and the Day will end when 15% of the field will remain. Only players who'll put chips in their bags will be qualified for Day 2 and in the money.

Two entries are allowed per flight, and late registrations will be closed at the end of Level 10 (approximately 7:40 p.m., after a 75-minute dinner break).

Cohen Makes First Elimination

Winner of the €1,100 Estrellas Poker Tour Main Event during EPT Barcelona in August, Lucien Cohen is in the field and has already eliminated a player.

From the hijack, he opened to 300, then was raised to 1,600 by Azamat Tulepbergenov in the cutoff. Cohen called, and discovered a 6♣4♠J♣ flop.

Tulepbergenov, bet 2,000, but Cohen raised to 6,500. Then Tulepbergenov moved all in with the starting stack, and Cohen called.

Cohen hit a set on the flop, and it held after the turn 2♥ and the river 9♠. "I knew he had a big pair. I even thought he had aces," Cohen said, while Tulepbergenov was leaving the tournament area.

Big Pot For Sidelkovskiy With Aces

After an open in early position called by Leonid Sidelkovskiy in middle position and Sergio Housepian in the hijack, Murad Cakir on the button squeezed to 4,500.

He was called by Haytham El Maoula in the small blind. The initial raiser folded, but Sidelkovskiy and Housepian eventually called.

On the flop J♥3♠6♥, after El Maoula checked, Sidelkovskiy took the lead and bet 6,000. Housepian folded, by Cakir raised all in for 24,800. El Maoula folded, and Sidelkovskiy called.

Under the gun, Ahmet Ozcan opened but saw Alexios Messalas, seated on his left, 3-bet to 2,100. All the other players folded to Ozcan, who called.

Messalas fired out a first barrel of 1,800 on the flop Q♦6♣6♦, then a second one to 3,200 on the turn 7♣. Both times, Ozcan check-called.

The river card was the 6♥, and Ozcan took the lead, betting 10,000. Messalas went into the tank, clearly struggling to make a decision. But he decided to fold. Ozcan revealed A♥Q♥ for a full house.

Bohdanov Runs Into a Monster

More than 10,000 was already in the middle as Renat Bohdanov and Anton Smirnov went heads-up to the turn on a board of 6♦10♣3♦K♠. Smirnov then bet 2,300 from the cutoff and Bohdanov called in early position.

The river came the 8♦ and Smirnov then slid forward a tower of chips to put Bohdanov all in. Bohdanov quickly called for around 10,000 and Smirnov showed him K♦K♥ for the turned set.

Bohdanov tossed A♠A♦ into the middle of the table before making his exit.

Zaika Scores Double KO As Cowboys Hold

Andrii Zaika opened from under the gun and Raffael Zarbo three-bet from the next seat as Nicolaou Sakis cold-called next to him. Zaika four-bet to 10,000 and Zarbo five-bet jammed to send Sakis deep into the tank.

Zaika called the clock to bring a call from Sakis and Zaika then snap-jammed all in as Sakis called off for the rest of his stack.
