Daniel Laidlaw defended his big blind to a button raise to 400 from Nigel Hannan, and called a continuation bet of 300 after the flop.
Both players checked the turns, before Laidlaw led out for 1,500 on the river. Hannan took a moment before mucking his hand, and Laidlaw took down an early pot.
The PokerStars United Kingdom and Ireland Poker Tour (UKIPT) returns to London, with action kicking off at a brand new venue – The London Hilton on Park Lane. Today marks the first of four starting flights for the flagship tournament of the series, which continues until a champion is crowned on October 22.
Play begins at noon local time, with 20-minute breaks taking place after every three levels. A 60-minute dinner break will get underway after the end of Level 10. Day 1a will feature 40-minute levels and players begin with 30,000 chips, with blinds starting at 100/100 and a 100 big blind ante.
Two reentries are allowed during the registration period until the end of Level 10, and the action will close when 15% of the field remains. Players will then bag up for October 20's Day 2 and will merge with the surviving fields from Day 1b, 1c, and 1d.
This will mark the second UKIPT London Main Event of 2022, following the first live European victory for James Rann in April. The UK native defeated a field of 645 entries to take home the biggest slice of the £619,200 prize pool to conclude the first UKIPT series in more than five years.
