Malinowski Leads Super High Roller After Day 1

Nível 8 : 2,000/5,000, 5,000 ante
Wiktor Malinowski
Wiktor Malinowski

A total of 48 players entered the €100,000 Super High Roller here at the PokerStars and Monte-Carlo®Casino European Poker Tour.

Eight levels were played on Day 1, and with late registration open until the start of Day 2 the number of entrants could grow from the 28 that advanced to Day 2.

Leading the way, and the only player with a stack in excess of seven figures, is a new face to the European Poker Tour High Roller scene in Wiktor Malinowski.

The Polish player scored a bunch of eliminations early on, including Ahadpur Khangah and Sam Greenwood, before sending Charlie Carrel to the rail late on to breach the one-million chip mark for the first time.

"It just happened to be good with my schedule," said Malinowski. "But today's been good. I've had quite a lot of volume playing high-stakes tournaments online and I'm ready for tomorrow."

Malinowski has plenty of High Roller experience online as well as in Macau but says the only major difference at the tables in Monaco is the amount of staring, although he did spend the latter part of today with Christoph Vogelsang at his table.

"There's a little bit more staring than usual, but I feel very comfortable. I don't think it's changed that much in comparison to other games that I play. But it's always nice to play, and I love tournaments."

Other big stacks at the end of Day 1 include Ahadpur Khangah (985,000), Isaac Haxton (953,000) and Sergio Aido (880,000), with defending champion and PCA Super High Roller champion Sam Greenwood (473,000), GPI World #1 Alex Foxen (162,000) and the highest-ranked Asian player in the GPI Michael Soyza (813,000) also in the field and advancing to Day 2.

EPT Prague Super High Roller champion Matthias Eibinger busted late but is expected to return tomorrow.

Play resumes at 12:30 pm when registration for this event will close. Stay tuned to PokerNews for all the latest from the EPT.

Wiktor Malinowski opened to 8,000 and got calls from Luc Greenwood in middle position and Ahadpur Khangah in the small blind. Jesus Cortes then three-bet to 48,000 in the big blind. Malinowski folded and Greenwood four-bet to 125,000.

Khangah folded and Cortes used a time extension before five-betting all in. Greenwood called for 390,000.

Luc Greenwood: {k-Clubs}{k-Hearts}
Jesus Cortes: {a-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}

The board came {10-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{j-Spades}{2-Hearts} and Greenwood's double left Cortes short.

"Did you think you opened," Carrel asked Greenwood who nodded sheepishly.

"You're welcome," said Malinowski. "The poker gods!"

"Play bad, run good," replied Greenwood.

Daniel Dvoress
Daniel Dvoress

Michael Addamo raised to 4,000 on the button and Daniel Dvoress three-bet in the small blind for an unknown amount but had a chip of 25,000 in front of him. Addamo took some time but then decided to shove with the bigger stack. Dvoress called for the 62,500 he had behind.

Daniel Dvoress: {a-Spades}{q-Diamonds}
Michael Addamo: {a-Clubs}{k-Spades}

The flop came {q-Hearts}{q-Clubs}{k-Diamonds} for them both to flop a pair but Addamo was ahead with the kings.

The turn brought them the {j-Hearts} which now meant that there was a chance to split to pot but the {9-Diamonds} on the river meant the end of Dvoress' first bullet as he reentered shortly after.
