Late last night, Steve O'Dwyer pitched the idea of running another €25,500 Single-Day High Roller. He wanted another version of the event he had just busted from (6th for €124,050), and people seemed up for it.
The tournament organization obliged and just announced the tournament for 2pm today (in about an hour).
A lot of the high rollers here in Prague, are still in the Main Event. We'll see if this event takes off. If it does, we'll stop by for coverage. If not, there's always the chance it runs tomorrow as the staff is very flexible. Check back in an hour to see who's giving it (another) go.
On our way back to the tournament floor, we ran into Ben Heath. Heath told us he was down to just 11 big blinds and got it in with against the of Timothy Adams. Heath failed to dodge his opponent's outs and as a result was the first to leave the tournament. 16 players now, but Heath (and others) do have the option to buy (back) in till the start of Level 9.
Viacheslav Buldygin in the hijack raised it up to 3,800 and his neighbor Ali Reza Fatehi three-bet to 9,000. Sam Greenwood flat called from the big blind and Buldygin called as well to make it three-handed.
Greenwood and Buldygin checked on . Fatehi bet 12,200 and Greenwood called. Buldygin check-raised to 31,000 and now Fatehi called, Greenwood folded.
With the hitting the turn, Buldygin bet 18,000. Fatehi shoved all in just about instantly and Buldygin mucked just as fast.
"Aces!" Buldygin said to Fatehi.
Fatehi just gave him a thumbs up and started stacking.
Action folded around to Jean-Noel Thorel in the small blind and he casually limped in for 2,400. Big blind Charlie Carrel asked how much Thorel was playing approximately and pushed all in when he heard it was about 60,000. Thorel snap called!
"Ah! You got me! You got me good!" Carrel exclaimed with a huge smile upon being shown . Carrel himself had just and was in trouble.
"I know you" Thorel said, while just about everyone in the tournament started laughing.
The board ran out and Thorel doubled his 61,700-stack.
From the small blind, Justin Bonomo raised to 12,500. Big blind Steve O'Dwyer, the originator of this tournament, shoved all in and Bonomo quickly called before we could count how much the shove was for.
Justin Bonomo:
Steve O'Dwyer:
The board came and O'Dwyer made his exit.
"I'll be back" he said as he made his way to the cage to buy back in.
Under the gun, Justin Bonomo opened for 13,000. Big blind Jack Salter called from the big blind and checked to his neighbor on . Bonomo bet 11,000 and Salter wasted not much time shoving all in for 60,000. Bonomo thought about it for a bit before he called.
Justin Bonomo:
Jack Salter:
The on the turn was a blank but the on the river sure wasn't!
"Wow" exclaimed Bonomo as Salter got up to make his exit. Down to 11 players.
From first position, Jean-Noel Thorel opened for 18,000. Two positions over sat Adrian Mateos on the button and he three-bet to 50,000. Both blinds released but Thorel instantly announced all in. Mateos wasn't overly excited calling it off, but did reluctantly toss in some chips to call.
Jean-Noel Thorel:
Adrian Mateos:
The board ran out . Thorel turned out to have 278,000, just more than what Mateos had. After finishing runner-up in yesterday's tournament for €260,300, now no spot on the final table for the Spanish EPT Grand Final champion.
At the same time, over on the other table, Sergi Reichax lost his last chips. Just like that, down to 8 and a final table.
Seated under the gun plus one, Mikita Badziakouski min-raised to 20,000. Justin Bonomo over in the hijack called before action was on big blind Viacheslav Buldygin.
Buldygin thought about it for a bit before saying "Yes, I can go all in" as he moved his chips in.
Badziakouski thought about it for a bit too before he as well shoved all in. His all-in over the top was for 195,000 and Bonomo called instantly.
As we were busy writing about the last hand he lost, Justin Bonomo got knocked out.
Bonomo clashed in a big pot with Sam Greenwood. While Bonomo had kings in the last hand only to lose to aces, this time he had ace-king and he would go under against Greenwood's pocket tens.
Bonomo out in seventh place, which means the tournament is on the bubble. Six players remain, only five awaits a reward for a day of poker.
