Dominik Nitsche Leads After Day 1 of EPT Dublin €10,300 High Roller

Nível 10 : 800/1,600, 200 ante
Dominik Nitsche
Dominik Nitsche

Germany's Dominik Nitsche led the way after bagging up 305,600 in chips with 80 players advancing from Day 1 of the 2016 PokerStars European Poker Tour Dublin €10,300 High Roller.

The German amassed a large portion of his chips in a hand against Darie Vlad. Nitsche three-bet out of the small blind and then fired all the streets on a board of {10-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}; Nitsche made it 28,000 on the turn, then shoved the river for 70,600. Vlad eventually called and showed the {2-Spades}{2-Clubs}, but Nitsche had him beat with the {k-Clubs}{k-Hearts} to score a huge double shortly before the end of play. He's now in great position to make a run at the title, and it could mean a second trip to the winner's circle in Dublin for the German, who triumphed in the UKIPT €2,000 High Roller. Additionally, Nitsche came second in the €10,200 Single-Day High Roller.

With 10 levels of play scheduled on Day 1, there was plenty of time for players to enter the event. As the day wore on, the amount of entries increased, and at the end of the day 181 piled up.

Following Nitsche on the leaderboard were Mark Radoja (280,000), Jerry Odeen (250,000), Sam Greenwood (248,300), and Ben Heath (240,300). Also in the surviving field going to Day 2 were Jason Mercier (189,300), €25,750 High Roller champion Mustapha Kanit (134,800), high-rolling icon Steve O'Dwyer (134,000), former World Series of Poker Main Event champion Ryan Riess (73,400), and reigning PokerStars Caribbean Adventure Main Event winner Mike Watson (71,200).

Short stacks to advance included Mohsin Charania (45,900), Igor Kurganov (35,000), and 2015 WSOP November Niner Pierre Neuville, who lost with {5-}{5-} versus the {9-}{9-} of Timothy Adams in the penultimate hand of the day after both players flopped a set and got their stacks in the middle. The Belgian will return with 15,800 chips, whereas Adams bagged up 133,200.

It wasn't such a good day for several notables, including Charlie Carrel, Martin Jacobson, Felix Stephensen, Felipe "Mojave" Ramos, Bryn Kenney, Jeff Rossiter, Andre Akkari, Paul-Francois Tedeschi, Jean-Noel Thorel, and Ivan Luca. They all busted before play ended.

So far, the field consists of 139 unique players and 42 reentries, but the field size could increase with registration and reentry open until 12:15 p.m. local time on Friday.

The action will kick off at 12:30 p.m. for Day 2, so stay tuned to PokerNews for further updates from the €10,300 High Roller.

Akkari Busts for Good

Or Hadad opened to 3,600 from under the gun and was called one way before Andre Akkari three-bet from the button for 12,500. Only Hadad called and they saw a flop of {J-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{8-Hearts}. Hadad check-called a bet and they checked through the {A-Clubs} turn before Hadad checked the {K-Hearts} river, too.

Akkari jammed for 60,000 with jack-nine (which was already in the muck) while Hadad called with {A-Spades}{Q-Hearts} for the straight.

It was the second bullet of the Brazilian and no further reentry is allowed.

Kitai Busts Two Players

Enrico Coppola opened to 2,300 and was called by Anton Wigg. The two players were three-bet by Davidi Kitai in late position and Coppola called. Wigg thought before committing his remaining chips to the pot in emphatic fashion, slamming fits full of chips to the felt. Kitai quickly called and eventually so did Coppola.

Kitai: {a-Spades}{a-Hearts}
Coppola: {q-Clubs}{q-Hearts}
Jattin: {2-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}

The flop came {j-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}, and Wigg sighed. "Three?" said Zinno. The dealer duly obliged. {3-Clubs} on the turn. A collective intake of breath went round the table, but it was short-lived as the {6-Clubs} came on the river to eliminate both Coppola and Jattin.

Greenwood Wins Four-Way All-in

Nível 7 : 400/800, 100 ante
Sam Greenwood
Sam Greenwood

Two players were getting to their feet as we approached Sam Greenwood and Mike McDonald's table. There was a pile of coloured chips heading Greenwood's way, and we had to make some sense of all the cards on their backs.

What was clear that Greenwood had won the chips on a {4-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{q-Clubs} board, but the other hands helped to explain the car-crash that had unfolded. According to Greenwood himself it was a four-way all-in on the flop with Greenwood {a-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}, Berthold Winz {q-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}, Fabian Ortiz, {k-Spades}{k-Diamonds} and Jyri Merivirta {8-Clubs}{8-Spades}, which ended in Greenwood boosting his stack to over 200,000 and eliminating both Winz and Merivirta.

"Have you ever been in a post-flop four-way all-in?" asked Mike McDonald.

"I've been in some weird hands in my life!" replied Greenwood.

Ortiz was left very short and busted soon after as well.

Riess busts Wigg

Nível 6 : 300/600, 75 ante
Anton Wigg
Anton Wigg

Picking up the action on the flop {K-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{2-Spades}, Anton Wigg bet 2,100 from the cutoff and Ryan Riess raised it up to 6,200 from one seat over. Wigg called and then checked the {J-Clubs} turn. Riess leaned over to check for the stack of his opponent and then bet 11,700. Wigg, who was deep in a massage as well, took his time before announcing all in and Riess snap-called.

Wigg: {A-Spades}{K-Diamonds}
Riess: {2-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}

The {K-Hearts} river blanked and that sent Wigg to the rail while Riess improved on his second attempt.

Carrel Busts First Bullet

Charlie Carrel
Charlie Carrel

Charlie Carrel was all in for only 5,700 from the cutoff and Andre Akkari called out of the big blind with the {K-Spades}{J-Spades}. Carrel was at risk with the {4-Clubs}{4-Spades} and Akkari got there on a board of {A-Hearts}{6-Spades}{2-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}{8-Clubs}.

The young Brit, who won the 10k single day High Roller and finished second in the initial 25k High Roller, can however reenter to improve his track record in Dublin further.

Tuna First Seat Open

Nível 2 : 100/200, 25 ante
Akin Tuna
Akin Tuna

Rocco Palumbo three-bet an open-raise and a call to 2,200 and then Akin Tuna, the initial raiser, wanted to squeeze in a further reraise. However, he threw in a T-5,000 chip first and the dealer then told him it was just a call. Tuna was slightly annoyed by then and checked behind the {10-Spades}{8-Hearts}{2-Diamonds} flop. Palumbo bet the {6-Hearts} turn for 2,000 and Tuna folded, getting shown the {K-Clubs}{K-Spades}.

A few minutes later, Tuna was involved in another big pot and called a bet of 6,200 by Jean-Noel Thorel on the {Q-Spades}{J-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{4-Clubs} turn. Thorel continued for 6,500 on the {J-Clubs} river and Tuna shoved for what looked like 20,000. Thorel announced the call and the dealer asked him twice, because it sounded almost as like fold.

Tuna flipped over {9-Spades}{8-Hearts} for a flopped straight and Thorel stood up from his massage, looked at the board twice and then roller over {10-Clubs}{10-Hearts} for a full house.
