Walter Fisher Leads The Remaining 175 Players

Welcome to Day 3 of PokerNews' coverage of the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure Main Event.

The starting field of 816 entrants is down to just 175 players who are still in the running for this prestigious title and the first-place prize of $1,491,580. On top of the chip counts with Walter Fisher with 497,000. Rounding out the top five is Hugh Drummond (456,800), Juan Martin Pastor (446,000), Adam Reynolds (378,500) and Diego Ventura (362,800).

Others still in the field include Pratyush Buddiga (357,900), Team PokerStars Pro Daniel Negreanu (295,600), Team PokerStars Pro Liv Boeree (247,100), Team PokerStars Pro Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier (212,400), Ole Schemion (192,600), Olivier Busquet (190,700), Mike Leah (185,400), Noah Schwartz (173,100) and Shannon Shorr (156,500), to name a few.

The plan for the day is to play another five levels, which should bring the field well into the money. The top 119 will make the money, with a min-cash being worth $17,800.

Baumstein Doubles Through Garzon

Laura Garzon, who won her entry for the PCA Main Event as a six FPP Mega-Path qualifier, was recently engaged in a significant pot with Scott Baumstein.

The flop read and Garzon, first to act, led out with a min-bet. Baumstein came over the top with a raise to an unknown amount and Garzon called to see fourth street.

The dealer paired the turn with the and Garzon checked. Baumstein fired 16,000 only to have Garzon check-raise all in. Baumstein instantly called for his own tournament life and the hands were turned over.

The river was the , giving each player a flush but Baumstein the nut flush. He was awarded the double and now has about 105,000 to his name. Garzon, on the other hand, has been crippled to just about 33,000.

Fisher Eliminates Petersen

We found PokerStars Team Online Pro Mickey Petersen all in and at risk before the flop for what looked to be around his last 60,000 against chip leader Walter Fisher.

Interview: Supernova Elite Juan Martin Pastor Dominating Early on Day 3

Argentina's Juan Martin Pastor is mostly known for his exploits in online cash games, but he's making some serious noise here at the PCA Main Event. Pastor, who recently reached Supernova Elite status at PokerStars under the name "pastorcito", currently sits second in chips after increasing his stack by more than 100,000 during the first level of Day 3.

We chatted with Pastor briefly during the break.

PokerNews: You began the day third in chips and you're currently right up there with the chip leader. How did that first level go for you?

Pastor: It was really good. I now have like 560K so it was good.

I saw you Tweet before the day started that you had Olivier Busquet at your table today. Is he someone you play with online or someone you look up to?

No, he's just a high roller guy so I know him but I've never played against him.

You've got some other tough players at your table (John Hennigan, Tyler Cornell). How have they been treating you as the big stack?

They're respecting me so far me so things have gone very well.

I know you play a lot online — you recently earned Supernova Elite status on PokerStars. What's it like coming here and playing live poker and doing well?

It's really nice. This is my third PCA Main Event but it's the first time I made Day 3. It's going really well so I hope it continues.

Do you usually play cash games online?

Yeah, cash games.

So how do you make that transition from cash games to live tournaments?

I play both of them online but my specialty is cash games. I do play a lot of tournaments though and really been working on improving.

Leah Eliminated by Reilly

Mike Leah opened with a raise and Andrew Wayman flatted from the next seat over. Tim Reilly three-bet the action to 20,000 and it folded back to Leah who moved forward all of his blue chips for a raise totaling 76,000. Leah was left with right around 20,000 behind. Wayman folded and Reilly flat called and began to table his hand, thinking that Leah was all in.

The flop came down and Leah put in his final 20,000. The hands were both tabled to reveal that Leah found himself in a rather unfortunate set-over-set situation.

Connor Drinan busted just before the money bubble.

Chance Kornuth opened for a raise in early position and got three-bet to 25,500 by Connor Drinan in the cutoff. Kornuth came back with 55,500, and Drinan jammed for about 180,000. Kornuth called.

Drinan couldn't find any help on the board, and Kornuth scored the knockout with queens full. The tournament is now one elimination from the money.

Pollak Coolers Price

We found small blind Oliver Price shoving all in for 125,000 over a bet of 55,000 from Benjamin Pollak, who was on the button. The board read , and Pollak called with a sigh shortly after getting a count. Price flipped up for a boat, but Pollak needn't have worried as he had for a better full house.

An Orbit with Ronaldo

Famous Brazilian footballer Ronaldo has been seated at the secondary feature table since the start of the day. He's been able to battle back against some of poker's elite and as the field is now in the money, he's scored his first ever live tournament cash. We decided to follow Ronaldo for one eight-hand orbit around the table. Here are our findings.

Stack size at orbit's start: 107,000

Hand #1: We began following Ronaldo in the big blind. Action folded around to John Patgorski on the button and he popped it up to 8,000. The small blind folded and Ronaldo came along to see a flop.

The flop came down and Ronaldo checked. Patgorski followed suit and the hit the turn. Two more checks allowed the to complete the board. Both players checked once more and Patgorski showed a winning for ace-high.

Hand #2: Patgorski opened to 8,000 from the cutoff only to have Julio Martini three-bet all in from the button for about 50,000. Ronaldo peered at his cards in the small blind and immediately shoved all of his chips into the middle of the table. The big blind and Patgorski both folded, allowing the hands to be tabled.

Ronaldo was in a commanding position with his pocket aces. He never relented his lead through the run out and he scored the elimination. This win boosted his stack up to right around 160,000.

Hand #3: There was an early positioned raise to 8,500 and Ronaldo folded his button.

Hand #4: Patgorski raised to 8,000 and Ronaldo called from the cutoff. The rest of the table folded, leaving the two heads up to the flop. Ronaldo checked, Patgorski bet 13,000, and Ronaldo quickly ditched his cards.

Hand #5: An early positioned player made it 8,000 to go and Ronaldo folded before the flop.

Hand #6: Patgorski opened to 10,000 from under the gun and Ronaldo folded from the next seat over.

Hand #7: Ronaldo was under the gun and he folded his cards.

Hand #8: Ronaldo was in the big blind and faced a raise to 11,000. He folded.

Stack at orbit's conclusion: 142,000

This orbit kicked off with excitement as the Brazilian footballer was able to eliminate an opponent from play with pocket aces. He's cruising right along and is in good spirits, despite taking a below average stack into the break. He'll return from break with roughly 142,000 to his name.
