Rettenmaier Falls Just Short of the Break

Nível 12 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante
Marvin Rettenmaier
Marvin Rettenmaier

We missed the elimination of Marvin Rettenmaier, but he was kind enough to fill us in on the details.

As he told it, he opened for 27,000 from early position holding {k-}{k-} and Quan Zhou three-bet all in with {a-}{k-} suited. Rettenmaier called off for roughly 300,000, and straight away an ace hit the flop.

"Oh well," he sighed before exiting the tournament room.

Queens Are No Big Thing for McDonald

Nível 12 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante

Action folded to Team PokerStars Pro Andre Akkari on the button and he raised to 26,000, which Juha Helppi and Mike McDonald called from the small and big blinds respectively. All three players then checked the {8-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{j-Spades} flop, and McDonald bet 40,000 after Helppi checked the {4-Spades} turn. Akkari called, Helppi folded, and the {3-Diamonds} completed the board on the river.

McDonald bet again, this time 150,000, and Akkari paid him off. McDonald rolled over the {8-Clubs}{a-Spades} for flopped trips, and Akkari flashed pocket queens before sending them to the muck.

Zhou Eliminates Newey

Nível 12 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante

Paul Newey shoved not too long ago and Zhou tanked long and hard before folding from the small blind, claiming he had {A-}{10-} suited. Not much later, Newey got it in again and now Zhou did call.

Paul Newey: {A-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}
Quan Zhou: {9-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}

The flop was disastrous for Newey: {9-Hearts}{7-Spades}{4-Spades}. Newey asked for an eight on the turn but instead got the {K-Clubs} and had to get up. The river {2-Clubs} was there just to make things official and Newey made his exit.

Chen Dispatches Smain and Mercier in Back-to-Back Hands

Nível 12 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante
Jason Mercier
Jason Mercier

Mamouni Smain, who qualified for this event via a €3,000 satellite, got his chips all in preflop holding {a-}{q-} and was up against the {6-}{6-} of Andrew Chen. A six on the flop all but sealed the deal for Chen, and Smain hit the rail.

In the very next hand, Brian Roberts raised to 30,000 and Chen called from the cutoff. Frederik Jensen called from the small blind, and Team PokerStars Pro Jason Mercier three-bet all in for roughly 280,000 from the big. Roberts folded, Chan called, and Jensen got out of the way.

Chen: {j-Clubs}{j-Spades}
Mercier: {a-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}

Roberts informed Mercier that he had folded the same hand, which obviously was not what Mercier wanted to hear. The board ran out {7-Spades}{10-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{5-Clubs} and that was all she wrote for Mercier.

"Ok, good luck," he offered before collecting his things and exiting the tournament floor.

Urbanovich Doubles Smith

Nível 12 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante
Dzmitry Urbanovich
Dzmitry Urbanovich

Dzmitry Urbanovich opened the cutoff and Dan Smith defended his big blind. Both players checked the {6-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{10-Hearts} flop and the {K-Spades} popped up on the turn. We missed the precise action but Smith later told us it went bet (Smith), raise (Urbanovich), allin (Smith), call (Urbanovich).

Dzmitry Urbanovich: {A-Hearts}{2-Clubs}
Dan Smith: {10-Clubs}{6-Spades}

The river {J-Diamonds} wasn't the right kind of red for last season's winner, and Smith doubled.

Timex Extension

Nível 12 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante

In a leftover hand from Level 11, action folded to Mike "Timex" McDonald on the button and he raised to 17,000. After Anthony Zinno folded the small blind, Michael Rocco simply moved all in from the big. McDonald called off for 257,000 and it was off to the races.

McDonald: {4-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}
Rocco: {j-Clubs}{7-Clubs}

Rocco's shove was ill-timed, but he was still drawing to two overs. Unfortunately for him, the board ran out a useless {5-Hearts}{k-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{a-Diamonds} and he shipped a tough competitior a double.

Greenwood Scores the Big Double Up

Nível 11 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante
Sam Greenwood
Sam Greenwood

Charlie Carrel opened under the gun for 22,000 and action folded to Sam Greenwood in the small blind. Greenwood three bet to 66,000 and Zhou was quick to release from the big blind. Carrel called in position.

The flop came {3-Hearts}{J-Clubs}{A-Clubs} and Greenwood bet 60,000, Carrel called. The {9-Diamonds} hit the turn and Greenwood checked with 278,000 in the middle and 355,000 behind.

Carrel didn't need too long before announcing all in, effectively betting 355,000. Greenwood wasn't the happiest of campers, but did somewhat reluctantly call after some 40 seconds of tanking.

Sam Greenwood: {A-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds}
Charlie Carrel: {Q-Clubs}{9-Clubs}

Carrel had the clubs and nines as outs, but failed to improve with the {10-Spades} on the river. Carrel still has over 36 big blinds left, but his stack is severely dent after this pot.

Roy Runs Into the Troyanovskiy Buzzsaw

Nível 11 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante
Jonathan Roy
Jonathan Roy

Vladimir Troyanovskiy opened for 23,000 under the gun and was soon met by an all-in three-bet to roughly 140,000 from Jonathan Roy in the hijack. The rest of the field folded, and Troyanovskiy snap-called to put the World Poker Tour champion at risk.

Roy: {5-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}
Troyanovskiy: {a-Spades}{a-Clubs}

Roy was in big trouble, and he watched helplessly as the board ran out an unhelpful {j-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{6-Hearts} to send him to the rail.

Zinno Gets There

Nível 11 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante

Juha Helppi opened for 23,000 from the button and Anthony Zinno in the big blind made the call. Zinno check called a bet of 30,000 on {4-Hearts}{2-Spades}{6-Diamonds} and both players checked the {9-Diamonds} on the turn. The {5-Spades} hit the river and Zinno fired 50,000 by tossing in two green 25k chips. Helppi tanked for a bit before calling, only to muck upon seeing Zinno's {Q-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds} for the rivered straight.
