Team Online's Isaac Haxton, who was recently bounced from the Main Event, joined the €25,000 High Roller and immediately began to chat with his opponents. One of the topics concerned the aforementioned schedule, and Haxton gave his input.
"They're doing a great job getting rid of stops I don't like and replacing them with ones I like," said Haxton. "Sanremo turning into Malta is a big upgrade."
The rest of the table seemed to agree that it was a good schedule, though a few said they wished Vienna was back on it. Only time will tell if that happens.
Paul Newey opened for 500 from the hijack and Pratyush Buddiga called from the button. Vladimir Dobrovolskii came along from the small blind and three players took a flop of . Dobrovolskii checked, Newey continued for 1,000, and Buddiga got out of the way.
Dobrovolskii called and then checked after the dealer burned and turned the . Newey doubled his bet to 2,000, and it did the trick as Dobrovolskii released his hand.
Players at Isaac Haxton's table are reminiscing about the formative years of the online poker industry. They're discussing how they came up in the poker world, building bankrolls on some of the old multi-skin sites and using family members' names to get around age restrictions. Plenty of stories are getting tossed around, but Isaac Haxton had perhaps the most amusing anecdote.
"I remember the first $50,000 I won playing poker," he said. "It was on Ultimate Bet. I think I was playing under my mom's name."
Three players saw the river on a board, and Brian Roberts bet 15,000 from the big blind. It was an overbet, as the pot contained just slightly over 12,000, and the player in the cutoff quickly folded. Dan Smith had something to think about on the button though, and the American high roller eventually said he was all in. It looked to be about 30,000 more, and Roberts thought for awhile before mucking.
"Don't show it," he warned Smith.
"Don't?" Smith slid his cards inward but kept a hold of them.
"OK, please show," Roberts said with a laugh.
"You can't have it both ways," Smith replied, keeping them face-down and collecting the pot.
Smith is coming off a win in the €5,000 Midnight Turbo event, where he collected €109,370 for topping a field of 82.
With 5,700 in the pot and a flop of , Martin Jacobson checked from the small blind and Max Silver did the same from middle position. Germany's Sebastian Von Toperczer followed suit from the cutoff, and the dealer burned and turned the .
Two more checks opened the door for Von Toperczer to bet 3,200, and that did the trick as both Jacobson and Silver folded.
Ihar Soika opened for 550 and received a call from Chang He on the button. Vasili Firsau came along from the big blind, and three players took a flop of . Firsau checked, Soika bet 900, and He folded. Firsau check-called and then led out for 500 on the turn. Soika quickly folded.
Despite losing that hand, Soika is still off to a good start in this tournament, while both Firsau and He are hovering near the starting stack.
Australian Geoffrey Mooney opened for 600 under the gun and former EPT Grand Final Main Event champ Mohsin Charania, who was seated to Mooney's direct left, three-bet to 1,800. Action folded back to Mooney, who called to see a flop. Mooney checked and then wasted little time in releasing his hand after Charania bet 2,050.
Not much of a hand, but it gave us a good excuse to update you on both their stacks.
