Dominik Nitsche has just joined table 13 taking the seat vacated by El Amir Ziad Chehab who has finally been eliminated. He is instantly regaled by tales from the table of the erratic play from the recently departed player including his limp with kings against Wheeler’s queens and leading out into four players when a flush hit. Safe to say it was less than complimentary.
One of the players involved in the discussion, Jason Duval had called a 400 open and was the only player to call when the small blind raised to 1,200.
They saw a flop of and Duval called a bet of 2,100. The turn was checked and when the river came the and it was checked to him a bet of 5,800 from Duval saw the pot pushed to him.
Christoph Vogelsang opened to 325 preflop but Hady Jean El Asmar made it 1,025 in the seat behind him. It was passed back around to the German who made the call to see a flop but both players checked.
The turn was the , Vogelsang checked again and El Asmar bet 1,725. Vogelsang gave it some serious contemplation but elected to fold his hand after a couple of minutes' thought.
Peter Gould is one of the older players at the table; from the UK he was previously a professional poker player. He took 3rd in a $1,000 NLHE event back in 2008 for$250,000 and has numerous other cashes.
“You used to be famous?” an incredulous Jason Duval asked. “For poker?”
Gould took it good humour and played it down insisting that he was now just a recreational player as he opened the next pot for 450.
He got one caller, and when they saw a flop of a continuation bet from Gould took it down.
PokerStars Team Pro Vanessa Selbst seems to love difficult decisions and prides herself in nearly always getting them right.
She was facing a pot sized bet of 6,000 on a final board of from online qualifier Michael Kanaan. Selbst went through the action, taking her time before making the fold.
No show from her opponent so this puzzle will remain a mystery.
There was 2,000 in the pot and the board read . Marcos Paneque bet out from first position for 1,000. Govert Metaal made the call and the small blind folded.
The turn was the and both players checked. Paneque said, “Ace.” turning over . Metaal nodded and mucked his cards.
