EPT10 Grand Final: Giving Back to Gain More

Nível 16 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante

In poker, it's all about taking. Taking risks, taking chips, and taking the lead for that first place prize. But what about giving back? Jennifer Robles spoke with some players who are interested in more than just money - using their winnings to help make the world a better place and they're encouraging ALL other players to do the same.

No Stalling

Nível 17 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante

A few players had concerns that some of the shorter stacks were taking too long to make decisions now they were two off the money bubble and it was slowing the game down on some tables. They wanted it to go hand for hand immediately rather than wait for one more player to get knocked out.

Scott Seiver put the case to the tournament director but it was turned down as it had never happened before and they didn’t want to set a precedent now, no matter what the special conditions. Instead the floor made an announcement that the position of the dealer button had been noted on each table and if one was taking significantly longer than the others there would potentially be a penalty for slow play. There was to be no deliberate stalling.

There will be one more player to lose, then there will be a table break and the tournament will go hand for hand until the bubble bursts.

Peters Doubles Through Filatov

Nível 17 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante

A huge double up for David Peters, he shoved over the top of Anatoly Filatov's raise and got called.

Peters: {A-Diamonds}{J-Clubs}
Filatov: {K-Hearts}{6-Hearts}

The board came {Q-Clubs}{3-Spades}{K-Spades}{2-Hearts} and Peters was getting ready to flick his cards into the muck and leave but the {10-Spades} popped up on the river and he survived.

Watson Doubles Up

Nível 17 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante

Philipp Gruissem opened to 16,000 preflop and Mike Watson called in the big blind with just 22,000 behind. The flop was {2-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{2-Spades}, Watson checked and Gruissem wished him good luck before moving in.

Watson replied, "I call, I have trips."

Watson: {8-Hearts}{2-Hearts}
Gruissem: {6-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}

The {5-Spades} turn and {7-Diamonds} river changed nothing and Watson survived the abyss.

Chen Makes Suck Out To Stay Alive

Nível 17 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante
Andrew Chen
Andrew Chen

Igor Yaroshevskyy raised it up under the gun to 16,000. Action folded to Andrew Chen in the cutoff who three-bet all in for 131,000. The other players folded and Yaroshevskyy instantly called.

Chen knew he was in trouble with his {Q-Spades}{Q-Diamonds} as Yaroshevskyy tabled {K-Spades}{K-Clubs} just as quickly.

The flop would save Chen though: {Q-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{5-Hearts}. The {2-Hearts} on the turn and {3-Hearts} on the river were blanks and Chen doubled up.

Nível 17 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante

Alex Kravchenko was short stacked and found himself all in with just {A-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}. He got looked up by Simon Higgins who had a far better hand: {J-Diamonds}{J-Hearts}.

Kravchenko hit a ten on the flop, but not more than that: {2-Clubs}{10-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{Q-Spades}.

Kravchenko got up from the table, and with big steps headed for the exit.

Bubble Time

Nível 17 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante

With 32 players remaining, and 31 in the money, it's officially bubble time now. One more player will leave empty handed, all others await a prize of at least €46,150.

Bubble Bluff

Nível 17 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante

The board read {7-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{7-Spades}{3-Hearts}{a-Clubs} and Martin Finger made a bet of 130,000 which was about a pot sized bet. Byron Kaverman went deep in the tank. If he made the call it would be for most, but not all of his stack. There had been an all-in and a call on a different table and as they were hand for hand there was no question about him stalling for time.

Still the minute ticked by and eventually Finger called the clock on him. With five seconds to go Kaverman released his hand.

Finger showed the assembled crowd his {6-Hearts}{2-Spades} stone cold bluff much to the appreciation of Scott Seiver. Kaverman didn’t look too happy about it though.
