All Quiet On the Litvinov Front

Nível 13 : 1,500/3,000, 400 ante
Artem Litvinov
Artem Litvinov

Artem Litvinov likes to be the centre of attention, the table captain and the joker in the pack. Today though, so far he has been unusually subdued. Sometimes with his earphones plugged in, sometimes without, he has largely been keeping his own council.

Sat on his immediate right is Michael Telker, himself a talkative fellow but in a slightly different way as he likes to play the naïf nit to the other seemingly more experienced and aggressive players. Telker too though has been keeping schtum.

Perhaps it is the fact that the prize pool has been announced and no one has yet made the money. The thought of a €1,105,000 would probably focus most minds on the task at hand.

Adams Means Business

Nível 13 : 1,500/3,000, 400 ante

On a flop of {9-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{8-Clubs} Pascal Lefrancois checked it over to Timothy Adams who bet 18,200. Lefrancois made the call.

The river card was the {j-Diamonds} and a last check from Lefrancois saw Adams move all in. Lefrancois mulled it over for a bit but he flicked his cards out in front of him to make the fold.

Bilokur Doubles Through Khoroshenin

Nível 13 : 1,500/3,000, 400 ante
Alex Bilokur
Alex Bilokur

When we approached the table, the two of them were already allin and all the cards were already out. We're not sure when the chips went in, but in the end Alex Bilokur won with his {A-Clubs}{K-Clubs}, that's for sure. Oleksii Khoroshenin had {Q-Hearts}{Q-} and couldn't beat Bilokur's turned flush: {5-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}.

Kravchenko Eliminates Stern

Nível 13 : 1,500/3,000, 400 ante

Dani Stern shoved from the button for the remaining of his not too impressive stack, and Alex Kravchenko reshoved from the small blind. After the big blind folded, it was time for them to table their cards.

Dani Stern: {10-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}
Alex Kravchenko: {K-Clubs}{K-Hearts}

The flop wasn't to bad for Stern with {Q-Clubs}{J-Diamonds}{8-Clubs} and especially Dan Smith and Anatoly Filatov made sure to mention that. The {A-Hearts} on the turn wasn't bad either, but the {7-Clubs} failed to hit Stern. "One more" Dan Smith laughed while Stern made his exit with a disappointed face.

Chip Counts in the Break

Nível 13 : 1,500/3,000, 400 ante

The tournament organization gave us the two biggest stacks from each table in the last break. The big stacks in the tournament are as followed:

Exposed Card Rule Puts Mizzi at Penalty Risk

Nível 13 : 1,500/3,000, 400 ante
Sorel Mizzi
Sorel Mizzi

Sorel Mizzi had asked out of interest for a clarification of the rule on something he had done a couple of hands ago. Hady El Asmar had moved all in and it was left up to Mizzi on whether to call him. He had said that if one card was an ace he was calling. In the end he turned over one card to give, as he put it, El Asmar “a sweat.” and then folded.

When the floor heard this Mizzi was suddenly facing a one round penalty for exposing a card with action pending, clearly not the answer he was expecting. Mizzi insisted on a ruling from the tournament director who was soon at hand.

In a debate that went back and forth with none of the players wanting Mizzi to have a one round penalty the rule was explained. Turning your cards face up with a forward motion to fold is fine; exposing cards before folding, for example to try to get a read on your opponent, is not. However the matter must be brought to the floor’s attention immediately as retrospective rulings do not apply to this rule. This more than anything saved Mizzi from a penalty.

Was this a new ruling, Mizzi wanted to know? The TD explained that it had been in place since season one.

Everyone at the table was satisfied except for Luke Schwartz who was angry that time was ticking away and short stacks like his were being punished by the waste of time.

Fernandez Doubles Through Shakerchi

Nível 13 : 1,500/3,000, 400 ante

Pablo Fernandez opened for 6,000 and got three-bet by Byron Kaverman to 14,000. Talal Shakerchi made the cold call from the small blind, the big blind folded. Fernandez now shoved all in for 54,600 and Kaverman instantly folded. Shakerchi made the call however and they were off to the races.

Pablo Fernandez: {A-Spades}{K-Hearts}
Talal Shakerchi: {9-Spades}{9-Hearts}

The ace-high flop helped Fernandez keep his chips, and then some: {A-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{J-Clubs}. The {6-Spades} on the turn and {5-Hearts} on the river were blanks and Fernandex doubled.
