“Steaming” Boatman and Table Prop Bets

Nível 11 : 600/1,200, 200 ante
Barny Boatman
Barny Boatman

Antonio Rodrigues folded to a bet from Barney Boatman and WSOP bracelet winner Boatman showed him the {a-Hearts}. “Too much respect.” said Rodrigues. “Not enough bravery.” Boatman responded. “You showed a card?” asked the dealer. Boatman confirmed he showed an ace, “Can’t remember which one though.”

Next hand Boatman opened for 2,400 and found one caller in Magali Fabron in late position. They saw a flop of {a-Spades}{j-Diamonds}{7-Hearts} and Boatman continued for 2,000. Fabron called and the turn card was the {3-Spades}. Boatman tossed out a T5000 chip and Fabron gave him the respect and folded.

The monitors had not yet showed the new blind levels which included the information that antes were now 200 but Boatman’s table had been playing 100 antes. It was announced over the Tannoy that this was the case and Rodrigues bet his neighbour, Jeffrey Hakim, that antes would go up next hand. Having obviously not heard the announcement he agreed to the bet. “Sure, how much. 100 Euro?” Rodrigues agreed. It didn’t take long for Hakim to realise he’d been duped and despite offering to pay up Rodrigues let him off the “Stupid bet.” as he called it.

When Boatman realized they’d been playing the wrong antes he jokingly said, “I’m steaming now. I’ve won two hands in a row.”
