Marton Czuzcor Leads 2014 PokerStars.fr EPT Deauville €10,300 High Roller Event into Day 2

Nível 10 : 800/1,600, 200 ante
Marton Czuczor

The EPT Deauville High Roller saw records broken with 113 entries into the tournament so far in the form of 95 unique players and 18 re-entries. This number could climb even higher tomorrow with registration open until 15 minutes before the start of play at midday. However, it has already been a large increase on the 85-runner field that played in this same event 12 months ago.

After ten levels, just 53 players are remaining. Leading at the end of Day 1 is Marton Czuzcor with 274,600. The Hungarian battled with Italian GPI Player of the Year Dario Sammartino for the chip lead but came out on top thanks to a particularly large pot where he knocked out David Vamplew with aces vs kings. That was the second bullet for Vamplew, the first having gone the way of Lebanese player Albert Daher. Vamplew had put most of his chips in by the turn of the K-J-6-A board with Q-T but Daher's A-6 boated up on the river 6 when the remaining chips went in.

The Scottish pro was one of several former EPT Champions who went crashing out today. Team PokerStars Pros Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier and Jake Cody were both eliminated during the day. ElkY lost a coinflip holding sixes against Steve O'Dwyer's ace-jack while Cody was knocked out right at the end of the day when his jacks couldn't catch up with Julian Thomas' aces. This left Alex Kravchenko (84,600) as the sole representative of the Team Pros going into Day 2 though both of the others still have the chance to buy in before the start of play.

Other players who made it through included Rookie/Spanish Player of the Year, Adrian Mateos Diaz (236,600) as well as former EPT winners Toby Lewis, Davidi Kitai, Jannick Wrang, Kent Lundmark, Michael Tureniec and Kevin MacPhee. MacPhee is on his second bullet, the first was lost against wily Russian Konstantin Puchkov who flopped top set against MacPhee's middle set.

With over half the field eliminated inside ten levels, the bustouts came thick and fast. Niall Farrell was knocked out in one of the very first hands of the day after his opponent tried bluffing him on the flop in a four-bet pot only to backdoor into two pair. His opponent in that hand, Aleksandr Denisov, would not put the chips to good use as he was one of several players who fired two bullets unsuccessfully at this tournament. Others who also tried this included Pho Truong, Roger Hairabedian and Jean-Noel Thorel. Many though had seemingly decided to simply take a single shot like Anton Wigg or Ludovic Lacay – the Frenchman one of several victims of Dario Sammartino. However, it is very possible that they might see that half the field has already gone and decide to take a shot with a 50,000 chip stack (which would be worth 25BB's at the start of tomorrow).

The PokerNews Live Reporting Team will be back at 12pm local time on Friday for the penultimate day of this tournament so stay tuned to find out who will be the next High Roller Champion of Deauville!

And Now a Word from Artem Litvinov...

Nível 8 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

Artem Litvinov

Well more than one...

The flop was reading {9-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{2-Clubs} and Artem Litvinov had checked and Albert Daher was thinking what to do.

"If you fold then I guarantee I will show my hand," was Litvinov's helpful advice.

Daher's response was to bet 2,800 and Litvinov made the call.

The turn was the {Q-Spades} and Litvinov carried on, "Your card, I check."

Daher thought for a moment.

Litvinov, "But buddy, you check now now and maybe I bluff and go boom boom tapis tapis tapis!"

Daher, "So you want me to check?"

Litvinov, "Yes. I have a five with one very good card."

Daher, "So you have something like a five with the ace of clubs?"

Litvinov, "You are a very good player. You will win big tournaments, maybe today. Definitely someday."

Daher, "Ok I check."

The river was the {8-Clubs} which came on board to a jokingly loud "Ooooh" from the table. Litvinov thought for a moment and checked and began to talk again as Daher contemplated his actions.

"You know maybe I have something like nine-ten and you're..."

Daher bet 3,600.

"Dammit."

Litvinov thought for a minute before folding, showing the {9-Hearts}.

Daher asked the Russian, "You have a flush?"

Litvinov, "No! I am professional."

Daher showed him the {7-Hearts}.

Afterwards Toby Lewis said to Litvinov, "Thanks for that."

Litvinov, "You're welcome. I see you sleep, sleep, sleep over there."

Puchkov Coolers MacPhee

Kevin MacPhee raised preflop and was flat called by Konstantin Puchkov they saw a flop of {3-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}{6-Spades}. Puchkov then check min-raised a bet from MacPhee and when he called they saw a turn card {5-Clubs}. Puchkov again checked and just called a bet by MacPhee. The river was {8-Clubs} and there was another check by Puchkov. MacPhee bet 17,500 and Puchkov asked for a count. He thought for a moment before shrugging and moving all in. MacPhee snapped him off with {6-Clubs}{6-Diamonds} but Puchkov had him with the {q-Clubs}{q-Hearts}.

Time for a Re-Vamp

Nível 7 : 400/800, 100 ante
David Vamplew
David Vamplew

On the turn of a {K-Spades}{J-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{A-Hearts} board, David Vamplew check-raised Albert Daher's 6,300 bet to 14,000 with just 17,000 behind.

Daher checked the Scot's chip count then made the call.

The river was the {6-Diamonds} and Vamplew moved all in, Daher snap-called.

Vamplew: {Q-Diamonds}{10-Spades}
Daher: {A-Diamonds}{6-Spades}

Vamplew's turned straight had been beaten by Daher's full house. After Vamplew left the table, Daher said, "I would've folded the river if I hadn't improved, there was no way he would shove the river on a bluff."

Vamplew has immediately gone for a rebuy.

Demircioglu Furious at Ruling

Nível 7 : 400/800, 100 ante
Casino Barrière de Deauville
Casino Barrière de Deauville

The board read {5-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}{a-Clubs} and the players were waiting on a decision. Eventually the clock was called and the floor came over and gave Nuri Hakan Demircioglu from Turkey a countdown. After 50 seconds the ten second countdown began and Demircioglu remained sat stock still. The time ran out and his hand was declared dead. Steve O’Dwyer was on the other end of it and prepared to take the pot. That’s when the trouble began.

Demircioglu insisted he had said “All-in.” but no one else at the table would confirm that. A few said they had “Heard something.” But not an all-in. The tournament director was called and all was explained as clearly as possible. No chips had moved. There was no red triangle in front of the player. The dealer insisted she had been looking at Demircioglu the whole time. Demircioglu countered that he had just been focusing on the cards and didn’t notice that the floor was giving him the countdown.

Demircioglu insisted “One hundred per cent.” he had said all in and was demanding that the cameras be checked, as he appealed to the other players to back up his story. The TD made his final decision that the hand was dead and that the next deal should take place immediately but Demircioglu hadn’t finished. He leaned across the table trying to grab his cards from the muck as the dealer began the wash. “That’s my card.” He said with one hand on a card. The tournament director gave him a final warning and Demircioglu took his hand away. As play resumed he went off to the side to continue his argument but it didn’t look like it would do him any good.

Thorel Done For

Nível 5 : 200/400, 50 ante
Jean-Noel Thorel
Jean-Noel Thorel

We joined the action on the flop reading {2-Hearts}{q-Hearts}{3-Hearts}. Jean-Noel Thorel checked and called a 2,800 bet from Dominik Nitsche. The turn card was the {4-Spades}. Again Thorel checked and when Nitsche bet 7,200 he check-raised him all in. It was 41,000 and Nitsche made the call with {3-Clubs}{3-Spades}. Thorel was behind with {a-Hearts}{k-Spades} and needed that heart to stay in the tournament. The {a-Diamonds} river sent him packing and Nitsche won a huge pot.

Govert Metaal sitting at the table said, “I was hoping for a heart.”

“Come on. I thought we were friends.” Nitsche repied. Metaal simply stated, “I am an honest player.” He knows that Nitsche with chips is trouble.

Casino Barrière de Deauville

The main event may be getting down to the nitty gritty end of the tournament but for the European Poker Tour's high stakes players, it's time for the high-roller event.

Last year Vojtech Ruzicka beat Timothy Reilly heads-up for a first prize worth €313,000 on a final table that also included Martin Jacobson, Bryn Kenney, Steve Silverman and Team PokerStars Pro Jonathan Duhamel.

The high-roller satellite last night drew 116 runners and made 16 seats. EPT winners David Vamplew, Anton Wigg and Dominik Panka were among those whose who qualified for today's tournament. Other players expected to play include Steve O'Dwyer and Toby Lewis, the latter having won Best Online Player at the European Poker Awards last night.

The tournament begins at 1pm local time and we're expecting to play between eight and ten one-hour levels today. It's also a single rebuy tournament so expect a bit more gamble in those early levels from some of the wealthier players!
