Silverman Looking for More High Roller Success

Nível 1 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

We happened upon the action with 30,000 or so already in the pot and a board reading {3-Clubs}{k-Spades}{5-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}. Philipp Gruissem had checked from the big blind and Steven Silverman, who won the inaugural World Poker Tour Alpha8 event $100,000 event at the Seminole Hard Rock in Hollywood, Florida just a few days ago and subsequently passed Paul Volpe on the 2013 Global Poker Index Player of the Year leader board, bet 22,500 from the button.

Gruissem thought for well over a minute before counting out some chips and dropping in a call, which prompted Silverman to roll over the {a-Diamonds}{4-Clubs} for a wheel. Gruissem chucked his cards to the muck unseen and
Silverman collected the pot.

You may also remember Silverman as the winner of last year's €25,000 High Roller at the 2013 PokerStars and Monte-Carlo® Casino European Poker Tour Grand Final.

Before the next hand was dealt, online star Ignat "0Human0" Liviu was picked up from the big blind and moved to a new table.

Who's Here

Nível 1 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

Here's a list of players already in their seats to start the event. The board reads that 30 have registered thus far, but that number is only going to grow as the day progresses. We'll be keeping you posted as more and more players roll in.

Last year's champion, Dan Smith, has yet to arrive, but he'll be here soon enough. Steven Silverman is here, though, fresh off his victory at the first-ever World Poker Tour Alpha8 event. Silverman won the inaugural $100,000 event at the Seminole Hard Rock in Hollywood, Florida just a few days prior, taking home $891,660. With his victory, SIlverman also eclipsed Paul Volpe on the 2013 Global Poker Index Player of the Year leader board, and you can read about that here.

There is a lot of excitement in the air already as yesterday the Estrellas Barcelona €1,100 Main Event attracted an astounding 1,798 players to create a €1,744,060 prize pool, of which €298,600 will go to the winner. That event is likely to not only be the biggest ever live tournament held by PokerStars, but thought also to be one the biggest ever fields of that buy-in ever held outside of the World Series of Poker.

In that Estrellas Main Event, just 558 players made it through to Day 2 in that tournament including Team PokerStars Pros Rino Mathis, Christophe De Meulder, Richard Toth, Marcin Horecki, Angel Guillen, Juan Manuel Pastor, and Andre Akkari ,plus Friend of PokerStars Charlotte Van Brabander. French PokerStars qualifier Julien Gaston, who played Day 1a, remains the chip leader with 282,800. While PokerNews won't be live reporting that event, we'll be sure to bring you periodic updates as well as a full recap once a winner is determined.

Meanwhile, the elite event on hand today, the three-day €50,000 Super High Roller, kicks off at noon and all players will begin with 250,000 in chips. The blinds kick off at 500/1,000/100 with all levels lasting an hour in length. Join us then as we bring you all the action straight from the floor of the Casino Barcelona. Until then, revisit Dan Smith's winner interview from last year:
