Cards are in the air here on Day 3 of the EPT10 Barcelona Main Event. Today we'll be playing five 90-minute levels, during which time the money bubble will burst.
Two years ago, all eyes were on Team PokerStars Pro Eugene Katchalov at the EPT Barcelona final table as he looked to achieve poker’s prestigious Triple Crown, which is comprised of wins on the WPT, WSOP and EPT. Instead, it was a then 29-year-old German by the name of Martin Schleich who topped the 811-player field to win the $1,224,572 first-place prize.
It was one of the most memorable three-handed battles in recent EPT memory as Katchalov, Schleich and Dragan Kostic exchanged the chip lead back and forth over more than four hours of play. Eventually, Katchalov was felled in third place when he three-bet shoved his 15 big blinds with the only to win into the of Schleich. The nines held and Katchalov had to settled for €315,000. An hour later, Kostic fell in second place for €532,000 and left Schleich as the last man standing.
Schleich, who worked in customer service at the time of his win, began playing no-limit cash games back in 2006 but eventually decided to play more tournaments. The decision obviously paid off with his EPT Barcelona win, but since then things have been pretty quiet for the German, who has just one cash over the last two years – 22nd in the 2012 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure $2,000 No Limit Hold’em Leaderboard Event for $6,410.
This year's EPT Barcelona Main Event field of 1,234 players came to Spain from 64 different countries. See the breakdown over at the PokerStars Blog.
We arrived to catch the aftermath of a rather interesting hand between Grudi Hristov Grudev and Mario Adinolfi that amounting in over a 100,000-chip pot.
Having the action recapped to us, we understand that after a series of raises before the flop, both players saw hit the felt. Grudev led into the pot and Adinolfi moved all in over the top. At the moment that the all in bet was announced, Adinolfi instantly rolled over his hand to reveal 7c} for top two pair. The floor was called over to observe the rest of the hand that would play out with Adinolfi's cards exposed. What made the moment tense, however, was the Grudev went into the tank. Despite knowing that his opponent held top two, Grudev seemed to find himself with a decision. A few moments passed while the table and spectators awaited Grudev's decion.
Eventually, he opted to lay the hand down to Adinolfi's two pair and Adinolfi was pushed the pot. Adinolfi now has about 194,000 while Grudve has dropped to 385,000.

In a sharp contrast to the end of play yesterday, the start of day 3 in the tournament room is almost silent apart from the riffling of chips, as the players settle into their new tables and try to work out their opponents. PokerNews followed some early hands from table one which includes Victor Ramdin, Dmitry Yurasov, and the short stack at the table Ramsey Khoury.
Ramdin opened for 6,300 from under the gun and was raised by Cristinel Sandu to 16,500. That was enough to win the pot without further resistance. Next hand Imed Ben Mahmoud opened for 6,300 and Khoury moved all in for his last 60,000 chips. Back to Mahmoud who made a fairly quick fold. Ramdin again opened for 6,300, this time getting three bet by Cristinel Sandu to 17,500, again Ramdin folded. Yurasov, the big stack at the table with 377,800 was next to open for 6,000 and it folded to Khoury who again moved all in. Back to Yurasov who asked for a count and seemed to be considering a gamble, but decided against giving the short stack a chance to double and folded.
