More than 10 years ago, Joe Hachem changed the face of poker in Australia when he won the 2005 World Series of Poker. Since then, he's been the most famous poker player in the "Land Down Under," and it was exciting to see both him and his brother, Tony, make a deep run in this event. Unfortunately for Joe, his journey just came to an end due to a bad beat.
It happened when Hachem opened for 13,000 from early position and action folded all the way around to Cankai Zhang in the big blind. He opted to defend and proceeded to check-call a bet of 15,000 on the ![]()

Artur Koren opened under the gun plus one to 18,000. Two spots behind him, it was Mark Bevan shoving all in for 85,000 total. Action folded back around to Koren, and he instantly tossed in a 5,000 chip to call.
Play was halted at that moment till the hands at all other tables were finished. A big rail gathered around the table as the tournament director asked both players to open their cards.

It wasn't meant to be for Bevan, as the

With that, the remaining 80 players all made the money and were guaranteed a AU$15,000 payday. The multiple short stacks in the tournament let out a big sigh at once, but we'll see if they can run it up now that they're in the money.
